@metalvenom85 They only use 80 pound braid because they fish in pretty ruff and fast moving water and it helps pull a giant flat out from underneath brush or stumps and such.Helps keep from losing the fish in heavy cover.
@metalvenom85 Man that sucks you guys cant use bluegill and sunfish. Here in kentucky you can use common suckers, bluegill, sunfish, warmouth any kind of panfish besides crappie, chubs, goldfish, but we cant fish with bullheads. Always wanted to try bullheads, but its not worth the fine.

@koawaconorth i learned the hard way thinking my extra heavy 7 foot bass rod and reel would be enough until a 3 flats in a row overpowered the drag and made a noodle out of the rod into a mess of trees. now i use heavy action 7-8' musky rods and 5-7k size reels. plus you cant hardly cast out 6 ounces of weight plus 6 oz of fish with any lighter of a rod. channel catfish you dont really need this stuff, but for flats and blues hell yes you do
@koawaconorth Its because they fish in very fast moving water and it helps pull monster flatheads out from under neath cover. In calm water conditions, i dont go over 30# mono
@mcculloch172 No, a clicker is not drag, it pulls out freely to allow the fish to run with the bait and when you start reeling in it will then just use drag so you can bring the fish in.
WOW, this guy is awesome he explained so much and helped me so much THank you so much 5*...and that sucks you can only use 1 line..i get to use 2 but i can use bullheads any size and any kind of sunfish and of course minnows...i cant use any ruff fish except drum...im in SW iowa
do u know a single thing about cat fishin my friend? a 30 lb flat head would eat a pound bass if he was hungry, and i would know i have done it before no offense man!
thinking like that will get you busted man i never thought they would catch me with a cast net that's to big fortunately they just gave me a warning and said i had to either have no net or buy a smaller one

My God, that is a set up for offshore kingfish.....not catfish. ABU 5000 and a 5'6"
medium action pole is all you need for Blues, Flatheads, or Channel catfish. That rig you are using is rediculous for catfish.
koawaconorth 1 year ago
@koawaconorth You obviously have never caught any nice Blues or Flatheads. They are perfect rigs.

We can have 7 fishing poles out at one time here in oklahoma. Unless the Rules of the lake state otherwise. some lakes have their own rules, .

1 line?!?! 33 hooks in MO.
ruger1117 2 years ago
I like to get right up close to the snags and fish the edge and go straight down! while holding the rod at all times. kinda like crappie jigging it
lespaul369 2 years ago
It sounds like MN rules suck your limited to 3 lines in SC. You can have more becausc DNR never checks.

cats will bite in the winter you just have to locate the fish because they wont be in the same areas they were in during the other seasons

@AdeSautel09 Actually we do catch channel cats through the ice in the winter in Minnesota. Its a real blast!
