Just a side note. I grew up in Texas, and I said blacks use to sing Sacred Harp more than they do now. That goes for other things to. In the pioneer days here in Texas, we had blacks that spoke German, Czech, Spanish, and Polish because they worked with/for farmers and ranchers that spoke those languages.
Blacks used to sing Sacred Harp "back in the day". But they moved on to wanting to sing with instruments, organs, pianos, guitars, like most white people did. Very few blacks sing Sacred Harp nowadays.
Just saw the documentary again at church with some Sacred Harp singers. It was great. It is the first time I noticed a black person singing with them. I love the music but always wondered ...(that's all I can say here--I've just wondered). I'm just so glad to see Bridgett. Yea!
When you search for "shape notes" you get some black choirs. There are obviously different traditions, and it is indeed good to see that people are "crossing the line" back and forth to learn about each.
Found it! thank you. That's a great improvement in quality!

Let the Redeemers praise arise:
Let the Redeemers name be sung
Through evry land by evry tongue."
