monk was not happy being paired with mulligan , just for the sake of a date..he did one with coleman hawkins that was beautiful. He just lays it down and keeps goin. I love it..

Do you know why Monk wasn't happy with being paired with Mulligan? If this is correct, then it certainly didn't manifest itself in the performance. This is one of my favorite renditions of 'Round Midnight!

@Musicenthusiasm I think the record co was pairing him up with other NAMES for commercial reasons.. Monk did not think one should just come and blow over his tunes just to make a record.. his music requires a more intimate study.... as with coltrane and monk...
