If you paused at the exact same point as me, you can only see her arms and legs, and just a small part of her face. Her body has sunk gracefully into the softness of the bed. To make it more picture perfect, her precious body has landed partly on the symbolic Olympic logo. I guess pole vaulters are the only people who can have the backs (or rears) on the logo and not be considered disrespectful.

Perhaps pole vaulters are the only people who can have their backs (or rears) on the Olympic logo and not be considered disrespectful.
In fact, a vaulter being saved by the softness of the landing bed next to the Olympic logo just makes it more gracious looking. Is that the reason why they are always placed at the area where most vaulters land?
Pause the video at 1:03. Right at the moment she lands on the soft bed. Take a look at the picture. Look how deep her body sinks into the bed, right onto the Olympic logo. So often we only pay attention to the vaulter and the bar, but forget to give any credit to the landing bed below.
If you pause right at the moment where her body sinks the deepest into the bed, you can look at how soft the bed is. After looking at the picture, I bet 9 out 10 will want to try what it feels like to land on it.
By the way, many vaulters actually praised this particular landing bed (Athens 2004 Olympics Pole Vault landing bed). Many vaulters said they always experience a certain degree of 'bottoming out' effect (which hurts a little) everytime they land, but not a single vaulter even once experienced that effect during the Athens 2004 event. To support the point, it was heard that this bed used a new type of foam that is 20% softer than usual foam that was used to produce pole vault landing beds.
I guess to a certain extent that this is the softest pole vault landing bed ever made at that time. The reason I said at that time? Well... fast forward to the light blue one used in Beijing 2008. A landing bed can't get any softer than that!
Next time we watch pole vault, remember that the vaulter and the bar isn't everything. We should also salute the landing beds below that provide vaulters with such a graceful looking soft landing (without it, it could be a fatal landing). If there was a museum that displays equipments that saves lives, a pole vault landing bed would be at the center of the museum for being the one that saved the most lives everyday, at every corner of the earth where the sport exists.
0:57 - 1:03 One of the best camera angles ever. Showing Yelena's perfect jump so high up across the bar, overlooking the graceful Olympic fire, shouts and celebrates along her way down, then having a very safe and comfortable landing on the very soft landing bed waiting to completely cushion her fall after her world record jump, bounces back up to her feet, and continue celebrating again!
