I am in the same boat with the co-sleeping! My baby wakes up every 2 hours to feed. His doctor recommends doing a night time routine and putting him in his crib for a couple of minutes for about 4 days. After that you just keeping leaving them in their crib longer. My baby has bad seperation issues so this is what the doctor recommended. I haven't tried it yet, I'm waiting to do this on Monday when my little guy turns 4 months,
I agree with you, you really don't save much money when you switch to CD unless you stick to prefolds and covers. I honestly started CDing because they are so stinking cute!
I'm glad your liking cding. We started back in July with Ethan and I love it. It is so overwhelming at first! I swear Ethan can smell my breastmilk. We were never good at cosleeping. Grayson is such a cutie!
my son is 3 months okd and is sleeping through the night he sleeps in a crib right next to our bed where we can see him and he can see us :) we put him on a night time routine to get him to sleep throught the night and he has been since he was 2 months... bath..botlle..bouncer and hes out until 10 the next morning
My little one is 8 weeks old now and we've moved her to a cot next to our bed. The only way she'll sleep in it however is if she can smell me. So now she sleeps on my dirty shirt every night lol. Not quite sure if that a mom fail or a mom genius but it works for us :)
YAY for Cloth Diapering! i cloth diaper too and i totally get it when you say you were overwhelmed in the beginning. OMG i was too. but once you get the hang of everything and learn it at your own pace its not bad. lol
i hope he starts sleeping better for ya though. both of my kids would not co-sleep at all so ive never done it. but i hope it works out.
We use a rock and play and let me daughter sleep in next to the bed. She's 3 months old as well (born a week or so after Grayson) and she's been sleeping in it since we brought her home. If you want something easy then this thing is great!
My 8 month old nurses repeatedly in the night, they do this when it's a growth spurt / developmental milestone, also, they do it to help increase/regulate your supply.
I believe it is normal, natural and healthy for a breastfed infant to need to nurse at night. I haven't had an uninterrupted nights' rest in months but my son is doing well, so I am willing to make the sacrifice. Also, he eats solids and does not sleep through the night. Thus, I believe the solids= no wakings is total BS.
we just joined the bed and the cot together. Took one side off the cot and 3 sides remained. That way my daughter had her own bed so to speak and we were kind of co-sleeping. This made transitioning to her own bedroom much easier as she was use to sleeping in the cot.
greyson and sophia definitely look different. I actually watched a video of her when she was 3 months old a few days ago to see the resemblance, and I honestly don't think they look alike at all. Sophie looks more like your husband and Grey looks like you. Absolutely adorable!!
I dont know if you can use this advise, but I tuck my son in in the evening in his crib next to our bed (he is 3 months old as well ) I sing for him a little while and then he falls asleep in 5 - 10 minutes. I just sit next to him, stroking his forehead and nose gently, not speaking, just waiting it out. The lights are out in the bedroom but on in the hallway, and the bedroom is nicely cool. I´ve done it for some weeks now, and it works every night - also when he is very awake in the beginning.
With my 4 week old son it is way different he nurses like you said like it is second nature although we can go sleep with him. If you lay him next to Kyle will he keep waking up then to?
Sophia is just how my son was with nursing en co sleeping. He was struggling while nursing ( finally made the full 6 months ) and then he didn't want the boob anymore. Ci sleeping wasn't working with him either he didn't go to sleep hitting us with his arms, kicking really not fun at all
For when he is a little older, you might want to check out Kawaii diapers. That's what we use. I love them! They are pockets, and one size. I got a 12pk for $76 from there website. Which is cheap in the cloth world. It's luvyourbaby . com I think. I also attempted to make my own recently. It was my first time using a sewing machine so it wasn't the greatest but good enough. I am going to make more soon for the holidays.
We switched to cloth about a month ago and we do paper at night every time. I haven't tried cloth at night yet. I love it so far. I think people do way too much with it all. I just do it like any other laundry I have. We've gotten rid of all diaper rash too.
My son did the same he rolled over from back to tummy first at 4 months, although he hated tummy time so as soon as he was on his tummy he would scream but that was due to real bad reflux. I know what you mean about the growing so fast my little man grew out of 0-3 month clothing after 2 weeks although he was 9 pounds 13 ounces at birth. You have the two most gorgeous kids EVER looove grayson's smile :)
Great update! We cosleep and she does well. She gets up 2 times a night and she's almost 6 months. We are going to try and transition her to the crib soon. Hopefully it goes well. Grayson and Sophie are the cutest. Love your videos esp the day in the life ones :)
We started out co-sleeping and slowly transitioned her to a bassinet by our bed. She does awesome!!! We are currently trying to transition her to her own bed in her own room....but for now she just naps in there during the day; she still wakes up too often at night to be across the house from Mommy.
My second son just turned 2 months old on October 15,
and from your stories, I can tell your baby boy is a very good baby, and you are very lucky to nurse him with 100% BM.
I had to start to supplement my little one with formula on the third day of his life because he lost 12oz (more than 10% of his BW), plus my newborn baby had a level of bilirubin as high as 14.6 after we left a hospital.
Everything is wonderful now, except I still do not have enough BM. Part of the problem is I do not pump after every feeding, and he doesn't empty my breasts. He nurses only for a short while, sometimes just 5 minutes. My guess is that as soon as my supply slows down he stops and than he waits for a bottle. To be honest, I am lucky he takes my breasts. At night, I nurse him 100% only because he doesn't eat much (1 or 2 oz). But during the day, he needs up to 4oz.
I have had several appointments with a lactation consultant, but it does not seem to be enough. I still try to pump 3 times a day, and I take herbs, but still struggle. There are so many people that love you and watch your videos, I hope maybe someone had a similar problem and knows how to fix it.
Its so hard to go back i used to co-sleep and now only 60% of the time he will sleep threw in his cot and thats if he even goes in it and hes 12months but just let him settle with you and then put him down xx
my baby is 4 months old and i am trying to transition her to the crib but it is sooo difficult!! Whenever she realises I'm not beside her she just wakes herself up :( I do enjoy co-sleeping, but we really hope having the bed to ourselves..... oh well :s lucky you, i'd rather have her in her crib then in my bed, its much safer even for SIDS
Co-sleeping never worked for us either through the night. It's fine for daytime naps or the last early AM feed and sleep. I think our babies were born on the same day (Jul-12). My daughter sleeps in a Graco bedroom bassinet (small pack n play). I've set it up against our bed. You could try that :). Good luck!!
Hey hon, I have an arms reach co sleeper which is more like a side car idea & gives me the best of both worlds. Baby is close but still has own sleeping space. ( I'm also exclusively BFGing ... & cloth diapering as it happens!) Might be a solution. Hope you get sorted soon ;)
What you can also do (harder with an exclusively BF baby) is just give him a bottle of water in his crib with him. Kaytelyn doesn't eat in the middle of the night, she wakes up because she wants to suck on something, so she gets a bottle of water, and she falls asleep with it, it's not ideal, but it works. She wakes up as soon as you move her, so getting her out of bed is a horrible idea, but a little water and she'll pass right back out... Worth a shot...
I did some accidental cosleeping with Kaytey when she came home from the NICU, where I was just so tired from feeding her in the middle of the night that I'd pass out with her eating still (mom fail! lol). But with her, the issue was that she was so used to being cuddled by her nurses that she didn't know how to sleep alone, so all we did was the first couple nights at home, she went down wide awake, and she cried and I sat by her crib with my hand on her until she fell asleep, she calmed down.
My little girl is 19 months and we are STILL having sleeping issues. Ugh. She gets up at least 3 times a night to nurse. We recently put her in her own room at night and it doesn't seem to help or hurt. She doesn't sleep either way :(
I don't have much advise but, this is what worked for us. When Ethan was born he would co-sleep with us he refused to sleep more than 20 minutes at a time in his crib. We realized he slept better when he slept on my husbands chest. Since he already had great neck control so we put him on his tummy to sleep at 2 weeks and it was heaven from there. He would only wake up 2 times a night to nurse and by 6 weeks he slept through the night. That's what worked for us.
with my son, which sounds a lot like your son, he slept with me or in a bassinet beside me for the first three months then we moved him to his crib in his room. at first it was rough, we would let him cry for ten or fifteen minutes go get him, sooth him then put him back in the crib. we kept doing this and by six months, he slept through the night. i breastfed for eight months and discovered that if you give him a bottle with breastmilk and oatmeal at bedtime, he stays asleep a lot longer
My little one loves to co-sleep but she sleeps better in her crib (sleeps deeper and more soundly). We started putting her in her crib, and it was like she wanted to be there all along. I really miss her snuggles, so sometimes we nap together ;)
Rylie went through the same thing around 3 months. It went on for weeks. I hope it doesn't go on that long for you! I think it's a growth spurt and with nursing it just takes longer. I totally sympathise with how exhausting it is :( We actually ended up moving her to her own room around then because I felt like I was contributing in waking her up. Not sure if it was the growth spurt, or moving rooms...but it eventually got better. And I still pull her in bed in the morning :)
perhaps you have to move him into his bedroom... at least that worked for me with my baby. I moved mine when he was 2 month and a half and started sleeping very well since then. Now he is 5 month old and sleeps from 9:30 pm to 7 am and doesn´t wake up at all. Just an advice! Love your videos! <3 your kids are lovely!
Then, when he was ready, we let him sleep all night and all naps in his crib. We gave him his time to get used to sleeping on his own, no teras shed :)
