I once heard Aaron Copland conducting at a London Promenade concert, apart from some of his own music he conducted a wonderful performance of The Roy Harris third symphony then followed it with an embarrassingly awful performance of The Gershwin Piano Concerto in F. It truly made me cringe. As one music critic wrote about the concert afterwards "The piano went in one direction and the orchestra went in another".
