I liked the plot of these books, but I'm not a big fan of first person perspective and never finished reading them. I read them liked them a lot. I kind of imagined Eric being larger and physically more imposing than the actor (like a cleaned up Zakk Wylde, but thats just me). I **hated** the twilight series and generally found the Sookie books to be much better written and much less naive. I how ever liked the small details she included and found them to bring a level of reality that the series like Twilight over look (having to pay bills for example).
I just read the 10th book of Sookie Stackhouse thats was wow imo. I just cant wait for the 11th on that comes out in Feb 11' . Charlaine Harris has said in an interview that she is only going to write 13 books about Sookie. But theres is also alot of small side stories added betwen the sookie books. you Should check them out too

They are similar to Charlaine Harris' books in content but they are quite different.

This video is great! I'm a HUGE True Blood fan, so I can't believe I didn't see this before, haha. I've read all of the books, as well as the rather disappointing book of Sookie-related short stories called A Touch of Dead. I completely agree with you about the fashion Charlaine talks about in the books- it sounds completely horrible, hahaha. You should make more videos like this one; I really enjoyed it.

I Agree with everything said in here! LOl I love True Blood and especially Eric! I have an undying love for vampire novels and when I heard that HBO had picked it up I almost died. Have you read any of her other series? I started the Harper Connelly series. It's not too bad, but I prefer the Sookie Stackhouse. I don't have HBO either, so I have to wait for the 2nd season to come out on DVD. :)
I suggest that anyone who is into vampire lore pick ANNE RICE, if you haven't already. She began her "Vampire Chronicles" series with Interview with the Vampire in 1976, and so is the prototype for this type of trend. Anne Rice is much more dense than Stephanie Meier and Charlaine Harris as she has a philosophical bent and tends to explore existential themes. The quality of her books isn't always consistent, but she really does attempt to exapnd the horror genre beyond cheap sensationalism.
Hint: when trying to affect a convinving GENERIC southern drawl (the accent is different depending on location. Texans sound different that Georgians, for example) REFRAIN from exaggerating the diphthongs. That's partially why it sounds fake. Considering, however, that half of the cast is not even American, they get pass from me. Layfayette's is the most authentic sounding. Diatribe finished.
I juste hate the Tv Show.. It's not the same history like the books and I think the caracters aren't very close of the description in the books.. (Sorry for my bad english =S)
I'm a big fan of Eric (& Alexander Skarsgård) as well. If you like this genre I highly recommend the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. They're similar in style to the Sookie books but even better in my opinion. One thing I like is that the author skips over the unimportant stuff that Charlaine tends to include in her books. yeah, True Blood needs more ERIC! I need to read the books to see if he will be more prevalant in the third series. But yeah I almost died when Sookie starts to dream about him and her together after she was bit by him. More more more~! I also love the comedy of Jason and Lafayette. HBO had a marathon of the first season and my husband kept asking me "what are you laughing at?" I can't wait til the thrid season starts!

I did like twilight , I thought it was gonna be a bit more immature than what it was but the characters i enjoyed so that made it good but im gonna watch the other twilight continuations but i do wanna do more reading. Most would consider the New Orleans accent to be the most authentic because it's the most well known. Cross between the typical Southern drawl, french and New York. The rest is just lagniappe.

Yeah, I am a Louisiana girl and really tried hard to watch the show. Mainly because it's filmed here and based on the state. Unfortunately, the fake accent irritated me so much I had to turn it off.
Louisiana accents are very different depending on which area you are from. Maybe they are using the "dumb" version.
I've read all the books & i'm addicted to True Blood! (re-reading them with each new season) I'm completely Team Eric, Bill annoys & aggrivates me, i'm always telling him off while he's on screen. haha CH is putting out a book of the short stories that go along w/ the series that she has written inbetween, it comes out in Oct. BUT i love the Twilight series as well (i'm almost 20 btw) & i'm from the South so the accents get to me a little, except Jason/Ryan's his is the most believeable. ^_^ <3

Have you read the Anita Blake series books by Laurell K Hamilton? If you haven't you should definitly read them. The books are awesome and their on the darker side of the supernatural. I heard that their actually going to be making a tv show out of them to but I know its not on HBO but on a channel called IFC.
love true blood. Cannot pick a favorite actor. Love them all. They are so different and great at what they do!! The peripheral characters have very developed personalities.
Alex is the son of Stellan Skarsgård, who eg. played the therapist in Good will hunting and played the father of Orlando Bloom's character in the Pirates of Caribbean. They're both super famous in Sweden.
Like everyone else, totally agree that Alexander Skarsgård is perfect for the role as Eric. I have read all the books and thought they were great, and Eric was most definitely my favorite character. The frustrating thing about the show is how the made him more violent and cold than he was in the books. They also removed a lot of the things he does for Sookie (so far), so that was a bit frustrating. But it's the writing, not the acting, because Alex is great. I hope they include him more!!

If I read the books first I would be able to envision Eric as hot just because of her descriptions of him. She makes him sound like he walked straight out of Chippendales or something.

I read the first 6 books, and then the first season came out on Bluray - I bought it before I'd even seen the series because I loved the books so much. I was prepared for the differences because so many of my friends had told me similar things as you did. i'm in the middle of the 7th book right now :)

I enjoy the books, but I can't stand the show. It's like Porn With a Plot. I was watching it with my mother and stepfather, and I ended up having to leave the room, blushing, and unbearably uncomfortable.
I'm surprised at people saying that - I don't think the sex scenes are very explicit at all, but then US TV is much more censored than in Europe. So for Americans it's probably shocking. Haha!

I've seen a bit of the series and I had no idea it was such a hit in the U.S, and after a while in the series I saw Alexander and I was like " isn't that Alexander Skarsgård??" And the he spoke swedish and I just felt so proud of him, that he's making it internationally. He and his father are both great actors! :D I feel so proud being swedish watching it!

I read all 9 books. I was so disappointed in the last one, though. It seemed to me that the author didn't get her book edited; there were so many spelling/grammar mistakes and inconsistencies. I thought some other author wrote that book, it was that terrible.

OMG, you have no idea how much i am loving him! Alexander really brought Eric to life and yes, he is a great actor and us americans have been much deprived of his talents!!! the live drama kind of threw me off at first but it's still a great show. haven't started on season 2 yet though but looking forward to it.

Damm Girl, I agree! I thought last weeks episode when Jason was playing the God that wanted Sam (to save Sam) and said "You have pleased me, you will get good crops" had me rolling on the floor laughing! I'm hooked, just started reading the books and started with the second one.
I love True Blood! Ive read a couple of the books and ive thought there were pretty good, but True Blood is becoming one of my favorite shows on HBO. Every sunday I watch it twice cause I just can't get enough of it! Especially the man that plays Eric, Alexander Skarsgard and the character Godric! I cried when he died! I love the books too...and agree with you some things do get irritating like when the author repeats to much of the story from the previous book...and i agree about the outfits she describes they are pretty lame but overall a great collection of books...

This video is great! I'm a HUGE True Blood fan, so I can't believe I didn't see this before, haha. I've read all of the books, as well as the rather disappointing book of Sookie-related short stories called A Touch of Dead. I completely agree with you about the fashion Charlaine talks about in the books- it sounds completely horrible, hahaha. You should make more videos like this one; I really enjoyed it.
Oh! And Alexander Skarsgard is totally my celebrity crush, haha.

I Agree with everything said in here! LOl I love True Blood and especially Eric! I have an undying love for vampire novels and when I heard that HBO had picked it up I almost died. I've been waiting for a vampire series that wasn't tongue-in-cheek and corny.The only thing that bugs me is how these pre-teens and teens watch this...like seriously I'm 20 and I still blush where are their parents?

My mom and my sister loveeeee True Blood, they never miss an episode!! I watch it sometimes with them, but not really a fan. My mom super loves Eric lol! She looks at pics of him on the internet, she sighs and says "he should be my son in law!" LOL. But yeah he is very handsome!

Have you read any of her other series? I started the Harper Connelly series. It's not too bad, but I prefer the Sookie Stackhouse. I don't have HBO either, so I have to wait for the 2nd season to come out on DVD. :)

I suggest that anyone who is into vampire lore pick ANNE RICE, if you haven't already. She began her "Vampire Chronicles" series with Interview with the Vampire in 1976, and so is the prototype for this type of trend. Anne Rice is much more dense than Stephanie Meier and Charlaine Harris as she has a philosophical bent and tends to explore existential themes. The quality of her books isn't always consistent, but she really does attempt to exapnd the horror genre beyond cheap sensationalism.

Hint: when trying to affect a convinving GENERIC southern drawl (the accent is different depending on location. Texans sound different that Georgians, for example) REFRAIN from exaggerating the diphthongs. That's partially why it sounds fake. Considering, however, that half of the cast is not even American, they get pass from me. Layfayette's is the most authentic sounding. Diatribe finished.

I'm a big fan of Eric (& Alexander Skarsgård) as well. If you like this genre I highly recommend the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. They're similar in style to the Sookie books but even better in my opinion. One thing I like is that the author skips over the unimportant stuff that Charlaine tends to include in her books. Anyway, I love your channels and your videos. Take care!

yeah, True Blood needs more ERIC! I need to read the books to see if he will be more prevalant in the third series. But yeah I almost died when Sookie starts to dream about him and her together after she was bit by him. More more more~! I also love the comedy of Jason and Lafayette. HBO had a marathon of the first season and my husband kept asking me "what are you laughing at?" I can't wait til the thrid season starts!

I think I heard of the author but not the show but now I will check it out thanks. I did like twilight , I thought it was gonna be a bit more immature than what it was but the characters i enjoyed so that made it good but im gonna watch the other twilight continuations but i do wanna do more reading. I have 3 kids so my reading has to come at weird times when they will let me or when their at school! Most of the cable series you cant go wrong i myself like weeds sorta on showtime! take care~

Most would consider the New Orleans accent to be the most authentic because it's the most well known. Cross between the typical Southern drawl, french and New York. The rest is just lagniappe.

i never read the books, but i always eyed them in the store....
i'm about 8 episodes into the first season (a friend lent it to me) and i'm really getting into it. i found the first few episodes really hard to get thru. kinda dry.
it's hard not to compare it to twilight tho. but then i compared twilight to anne rice. so i'll get over it ;)

Yeah, I am a Louisiana girl and really tried hard to watch the show. Mainly because it's filmed here and based on the state. Unfortunately, the fake accent irritated me so much I had to turn it off.
Louisiana accents are very different depending on which area you are from. Maybe they are using the "dumb" version.

I've read all the books & i'm addicted to True Blood! (re-reading them with each new season) I'm completely Team Eric, Bill annoys & aggrivates me, i'm always telling him off while he's on screen. haha CH is putting out a book of the short stories that go along w/ the series that she has written inbetween, it comes out in Oct. BUT i love the Twilight series as well (i'm almost 20 btw) & i'm from the South so the accents get to me a little, except Jason/Ryan's his is the most believeable. ^_^ <3

Have you read the Anita Blake series books by Laurell K Hamilton? If you haven't you should definitly read them. The books are awesome and their on the darker side of the supernatural. I heard that their actually going to be making a tv show out of them to but I know its not on HBO but on a channel called IFC.

Like everyone else, totally agree that Alexander Skarsgård is perfect for the role as Eric. I have read all the books and thought they were great, and Eric was most definitely my favorite character. The frustrating thing about the show is how the made him more violent and cold than he was in the books. They also removed a lot of the things he does for Sookie (so far), so that was a bit frustrating. But it's the writing, not the acting, because Alex is great. I hope they include him more!!

I read the first 6 books, and then the first season came out on Bluray - I bought it before I'd even seen the series because I loved the books so much. I was prepared for the differences because so many of my friends had told me similar things as you did. i'm in the middle of the 7th book right now :)

True Blood vamps are more... vampire-ish (the way vampires are supposed to be - dark, bloodthirsty, and mysterious [perhaps violent]) But yeah, real vampire novels are good, I'll check out the selection. I've seen a bit of the series and I had no idea it was such a hit in the U.S, and after a while in the series I saw Alexander and I was like " isn't that Alexander Skarsgård??" And the he spoke swedish and I just felt so proud of him, that he's making it internationally. He and his father are both great actors! :D I feel so proud being swedish watching it!

I read all 9 books. I was so disappointed in the last one, though. It seemed to me that the author didn't get her book edited; there were so many spelling/grammar mistakes and inconsistencies. I thought some other author wrote that book, it was that terrible.

I agree with what you say about the C. Harris books but I do really like them better than Twilight. And True Blood LOOOVE it! Ya, Alexander Skarsgard is soooo perfect as Eric, he is major sexy. OMG, you have no idea how much i am loving him! Alexander really brought Eric to life and yes, he is a great actor and us americans have been much deprived of his talents!!! the live drama kind of threw me off at first but it's still a great show. haven't started on season 2 yet though but looking forward to it.

I love True Blood! Ive read a couple of the books and ive thought there were pretty good, but True Blood is becoming one of my favorite shows on HBO. Every sunday I watch it twice cause I just can't get enough of it! Especially the man that plays Eric, Alexander Skarsgard and the character Godric! I cried when he died! I was so sad for the rest of the night! lol!

I love True Blood. I have watched it in like fashion by alternate routes.
I recently checked out the Rachel Zoe project. She is a top stylist in Hollywood. It is a reality series. I don't generally watch them. However there are lots of gowns, jewels, shoes and handbags. The clothes are the star of this show.

I believe that the next book will be available in November. Also, I think that since the books are written in first person from Sookie's perspective, having her describe someone's outfit or what discuss what she purchases at the market are ways of making her a more believable c
