Yes, but you could just get them use to handling also. It is si much easier. Let the parents feed them and wean them. t takes the work load off of you.

We don't shove it in, we just show them by putting it in there and if they eat, great. If not, we'll try again another day. Make sense? ;)

We teach them like their mom and dad would. The first time we teach them what big bird food is when they start chewing on their bedding. This is no different than nature.

The eggs should hatch in 23 days, so your eggs were not fertilized by the male. He might be too young, too old, can not reproduce, or confused on the whole love making "thing".

These are the Jewel Babies. I don't think we did a handfeeding video on these guys. The other video you commented on was the Hobbit clutch from March '07. These are our New Year's Babies. But they are cute like the others!

I feed them until they want to eat usually that is until there crop is full then I try to make them eat there big bird food am I doing it backward? Should I cut down the formula and incourage big bird food. When should birds be fully weaned at how many days old My birds are already flying I know that makes a difference Thank-you in advance for your advice.

Actually, you are doing it right. It is good to get them trying the big bird food after you feed them. If you do it that way, they don't give as much of a feeding response and tend to grind it in their beak. Just use a soft food like Avi-Cakes. Don't cut down the formula until they start refusing as much as you have been giving. When they start refusing, that means that they have been eating some big bird food on their own.

Our birds wean usually between 6-8 weeks. We don't force wean them, which is why I said let them refuse the food rather than you cutting down on the amount. At five weeks, you can cut down a feeding though. You'll also notice them refuse some food as the baby formula makes them too heavy to fly. Leave them flighted until they wean completely (if you have decided to clip). We do a baby clip that still allows them to fly some, but helps in the socialization process.

We start introducing big bird food when we notice them chewing on the bedding in the brooder. This can be anywhere from a little over 3-weeks-old to around 4-weeks-old.
