Yes, it is a communist song, and contains examples of the basic tenants of communism.

IE: The no religion and no posessions bit, and the stuff about doing away with countries.

It's very simplisticly stated here, and dosn't get into the nitty gritty details of forming a communist country and etc etc. Moreover, the most prominant message of the song is peace with your fellow man, which is not ever a bad thing.

This song just talks about how it would be nice if we didn't fight over religion and other stuff and just live without war :)

I can imagine no religions and no countries, no heaven and no hell. These are indeed good ideals. But no posessions? No property rights? This is not something to be desired. Who has no posessions? Animals. The exptremely poor. I don't want people to live in the dirt like animals. I want the poor to become more rich. Free markets, property rights, free trade lift the poor out of poverty. But Lennon was right on track with the rest of his song.

Nah, communism isn't a good system. Marx was wrong 'bout it. It relies in great ideals but its execution needs an "enlightened" populace, and a stroll to any of the great cities can show you that we're far from that. Communism is not suited for people, for demi-gods -maybe- or for saints, I don't know, it just doesn't work, it all boils down -in the end- to a powerful government which rules over the people under the pretense of working for people's best interests(which never is the case).
