This is so cool watching Shawn play this Tony Williams Lifetime song from the 1975 album "Believe It". I love Shawn's playing on this. This drummer was playing a more heavy rock sounding beat on it, but he did a great job anyway. I wish I would have seen Shawn in concert before he passed away. Thank God there are great videos like this. RIP Shawn
@oilkills lol, yeah but that just shows how amazing his technique was.He could sweep without sweeping,ha,ha,ha.Dont know many that can pull that off like he did. Thanks for sending me this brother,Another little treasure to add to my list and thank you MSLV's you are the man and I still have your Charvel when your ready for it..
@petiethepitt Hey there bud. Wow, that's freaky... i was literally just telling my girlfriend today about you doing that for me with the guitar... because i just got a new job i start next week so hopefully now i'll be able to save to pay for that.... it's still really very appreciated that you put it away for me.... i'm eternally greatful... hope you're well! :)
When ever your ready, its no big deal as its safe and sound and not a problem to hold it for you.
I am heading back out to sea in another day but will contact you off page with my # when I get back home.
We can hammer out the details then and get your axe to you.But like I said its safe and sound and no time pressure.Very happy your doing better my friend.
Shawn had such a great respect and admiration for Allan and it really shines through in this rendition of Fred. Shwan was such ana amazing player...would have been really interesting to see where he was gonna take his playing to next. Such a tragedy he left us so early...
Yeah i know Marshall does, but i presumed that was as a result of him finding out that Holdsworth did it (rather than developing it that way on his own). No idea if Garsed does it like that, though it IS very smooth, and i love his playing.
Marshall did study under garsed though so maybe he got it from him as well, i just watched some of garsed's rock fusion and he does mention it, he says to lift and then hammer on as opposed to pulling off. Im sure shawn could do it as well if he wanted, dude could do anything.
Yeah, it's like a normal forward hammer on, but in reverse (descending instead of ascending). So instead of 'pulling off' to the next note in a descending direction, you just lightly lift the finger you just used (for the higher note) and then 'hammer' the next lower note (rather than pulling off to it).
shawn always does amazing covers... steve morse, mike stern, scott henderson... and he NAILS them. an absolute gifted musician and creative force. he is dearly missed.
@wickedsensation Well,Shawn said it was Holdsworth that inspired him before anyone else did after he checked him out live for the first time.I suppose that beeing what it is,, like most of us we study and aspire to play what moves us the most artist/music,,etc.I have no doubt that Shawn knew alot of Allan's music maybe even all of it,lol,.But yes even Shawn Lane had Idols like Holdsworth as clearly heard in his own music.
What an amazing player he truly was there will never be another Shawn.

I'll take Holdsworth.. His lines are musical and make rhythmical and theoretical sense..

Well, I definitely got my Lanes-Worth from this one. Pun intended.

Knowing how big a fan Shawn was of Holdsworth, I'm surprised he didn't cover some of his other songs.

who played the electric piano and the bass here?
This video shows the gt and the dr only...
I´m surprised how many talented musicians (unknown to me) can be discovered on the youtube channel... (thanx again for founding the site!)

Shawn recorded those himself earlier, as a backing track to play over. He was an unbelievable keyboard/piano player, and a great drummer too.

did shawn play legato like holdsworth where you perform backwards hammer ons instead of using pull offs?
llwayneio 2 years ago
No, Allan's the only person i know of that does/did that..... i guess that's the way he learnt to do it when he started out.
MyShawnLaneVideos 2 years ago
I think brett garsed and marshall harrison do it as well, i might be wrong though. its too hard to tell the speed these people play lol

Sorry for my crappy description. :p

@MyShawnLaneVideos I read he did it because he didn't like the sound of pull offs as the tone was different from a hammer on
