  • never imagined i will see this again,,,thanks for sharing...how do they get trained

  • @jamilajabri Glad you liked it . I don't know how they train. Maybe just by participating. There were many young people involved.

  • wow

  • You or your friend can download it directly.

  • I would love to have a copy of this dance for one of my African Dance friends in the states. Will be in the Kilimanjaro Region until the end of September....where might it be possible

  • i think this is from sukuma tribe mwanza or shinyanga the sound is from bagalu or bagika clan on sukuma side

  • @yusefbig You could be right. I just went with the flow. So happy to be allowed to film it at such close distance. Seems strange now but I don't remember hear any words spoken my head was ringing from the all the drums.

  • I was in the Peace Corps in Nzega for 3 years and often went to these activities out in the countryside. I certainly did not have a video camera (1985-88). I cannot thank you enough for capturing this incredibly accurate depiction of the sounds and sights of those dance contests. Amazing what youtube makes possible.

  • @yoch3 I'm glad you liked it. I felt honored to be allowed to wander around inside the two areas and video whatever I liked. That was not always possible in other places in Tanzania. I am glad you feel the tape is accurate. It is an abbreviation of almost 2 hours of raw video.

  • poa kabisa.

  • I was born in Tanzania and for the past 42 years living in London, England. Thank you for posting Ngoma video. Most interesting indeed.

    Asanti sana bwana.

  • Do you have the names of the groups or the styles?? I was just in the North of TZ and saw some stuff but nothing like these groups.

    Thanks!

  • I think some of the comments below by Kulangwa identify the tribes involved. The area was near Nzega in central TZ. It is an activity not often seen. Less often videoed.

I know its mzungu but I have faat fingers when it comes to typing. I hope your wife enjoyed the tape. I was thrilled to be allowed to video the activities from among side the musicians.

  • The Bayeye and the Banungule.

These dancestyles comes from the Sukumatribe.

Nyamwesi and Sukuma is like 1 tripe and they both speak Kisukuma

  • Thanks for the information. I was fortunate to be invited to video approx 20 min of each dance style on a day perfect for videoing. As 1 of only 2 muzungu in the area it was quite a treat to witness.
