Used to love this show back then, was a good cop program for Saturday nights. But, I have always wondered what happened to Fred Dryer. Anyway, thanks for taking me back down memory lane:)
I always loved that Mike Post rearranged the theme with each season. Back when TV shows actually had opening themes. These days you're lucky if you get a title card accompanied by a 4-second sound of some kind.
Officer Hunter and Di Di are real great American, Normal but great. they are real ironman and woman better than Terminator acted by Arnold. they are symbol of justice. I love them . Greeting from Beijing China.

For some reason, whenever I think of Hunter I also think of Frisky Dingo. Probably because of that scene where Xander Crews wants to get Fred Dryer to be his Vice President.
Fred Dryer...reminds of a taller more athletic Micheal Ironside but his acting style is much more Marc Singer...funny all those guys could easliy be in each others shows probably playing basically the "same" type guys.
Hollywood you haven't run out of ideas you've just become fuckin lazy to come up with something new 85 percent of the time shit at least make an Aquaman or Green Lantern movie or some kinda super hero movie but spread out the time of them
if Hollywood is gonna make a movie based on some old ass TV show and use a completely different actor get a staff and actors who truly feel that character not someone who doesn't know shit and is just out for a buck
@odog65 in case you havent catched on yet, the people in charge of producing hollywood shit cast the people they think will attract more viewers, they dont give a shit about the content or even give a fuck about making good movies as long as it does well in its weekend release theyve profited in their investment. Dont take it personal... this is investors money and they wont take a chance in losing dough just because some people act picky when it comes to movies.
oh yeah and I almost forgot making long over due sequels based on movies made from 10 or 20 some odd years ago like when they were once talking about making a point break 2 I never saw it but already sounded gay from just reading the plot of it Ex Bush Administration come on thank god it never got made or Wild Things 2 & 3 complete waste of time the origional I love but 2 it's like a bad remake
@silverrhawk No way man! Hollywood's already ruined two classic shows form the 80's-G.I. Joe and Transformers- and are on the brink to possibly ruin another one when they release the A-Team to the big screen. Hollywood better not touch Hunter
They supposedly already are bringing this show to the big screen. A movie version of "Hunter" is to supposedly be released to theaters next October of 2010. John Travolta is slated to be Hunter and Jessica Alba is to play McCall. Don't think I'll probably like it, as I usually don't like movie versions of old TV shows. But, I'll probably watch it anyway. But Fred and Stepfanie will ALWAYS be the true and real Hunter and McCall!
Definitely! I knew I wouldn't like the "Miami Vice" movie as well as the original show...but man did that movie suck in it's own right too!! I just hope the "Hunter" movie isn't as bad as the "MV" one!
Could not get any worse than Vice. When I heard about the movie and that Farrell and Fox were playing the parts. That owns, this is gonna be something. man was i wrong, horrible and not even a big fan of original series. Also it was made my Michael Mann (producer on original series) who also made the great movie Heat (1995) and Ali (2001) and then bombed Vice, WTF?, LOL! Dukes (2005) trashed a great family tv series. Starsky And Hutch (2004) though funny was subpar to 70's tv series, IMO!
I'm a huge fan of the original "Miami Vice" series, and it and "Hunter" are probably my favorite 80's cops shows ("Knight Rider" and "Magnum, p.i." being my favorite adventure/action shows)! I totally agree with you, the "M.V." movie was terrible! The "Dukes" movie completely perverted a superb family adventure show (I have that show on DVD too), but even though the "Starsky & Hutch" movie was hilarios I still like the original show best too--have that show as well.
Yeah I have the Dukes Of Hazzard complete series as well along with A-team, Knight Rider, Three's Company, Six Million Dollar Man, Werewolf, and Incredible Hulk which also brings up another issue. The new Hulk movies are really subpar compared to the superbly done television Bixby/Ferrigno series.
Yeah, I loved "Knight Rider" and have the series on DVD too--as well as "Six Million Dollar Man," "Bionic Woman," "Charlie's Angels," "Wonder Woman," "Matt Houston," Hart To Hart," "Vega$," "Silk Stalkings,"Perry Mason," "Surfside 6," "Hawaii Five-0", "Hawaiian Eye," "Ironside," "Magnum, p.i.", newer shows such as "CSI" and "Bones"--and as I stated before "Miami Vice," "Starsky & Hutch," Dukes of Hazzard," "Hunter," etc... I collect TV shows--mostly crime or adventure ones. Don't have "Hulk" yet
I wouldn't hold my breath lots of Movies made today based on a TV show Toy or remake of some movie from the 80's is usually gonna suck Donkey Balls ok Transformers was fairly cool but any other toy it would suck. I'd rather watch Lobster Man From Mars or Overdrawn At The Memory Bank over the MV Karate Kid Dukes Of Hazzard remakes any day of the week
Oh man i have my doubts about a film version of Hunter, especially with Jessica Alba as McCall. Personally i think that Kate Beckinsale would be a better fit. I fear that this will be another typical Hollywood butchery of a classic show. However at least Fred Dryer is involved with the project with him co-writing the script. Hopefully he can make this movie at least respectable.
Even with Dryer co-writing and producing the movie, I'm still afraid it'll be (as you stated) a total "butchery" of a classic awesome show. Look at the "Miami Vice" movie back in 2006. Creator and producer Michael Mann produced and wrote this movie too...but it still sucked beyond belief! Fans will be remembering only one Hunter and McCall--Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer. I just think a movie version is not a good idea. They should do another "Hunter" reunion TV movie instead!
I also would love to see another Hunter reunion TV movie too. In fact, i would love to see a Hunter/Law & Order: SVU crossover movie. I think that it would be a lot of fun seeing Hunter and McCall teaming up with Elliot and Olivia, who has succeed them as the top crime fighting partnership that a lot of people would like to see as more than friends.
That would be an interesting idea, having a "Hunter" and "Law & Order: SVU" crossover! I still would prefer to see a new "Hunter" reunion movie by itself, but I'd take anything! To me, though, the only other crime fighting team that was as superb together as Hunter and McCall (and everyone wanted to see get together) was Chris and Rita--from Stephen J. Cannell's other crime show "Silk Stalkings" (1991-1999). But that was disasterous with their characters leaving in death and tragedy.
You know what would also be an idea of sorts - having a "Hunter" and "Profiler" crossover. As you may know, Profiler aired in Hunter's old 10 p.m. time slot on Saturday nights from 1996-2000. Hunter and McCall would be paired superbly with profiler Sam Waters, and seeing as Hunter loved to take on sadistic creeps, it'd be a great match.
On the other hand, a match-up with Maxwell Smart and Joe Friday? LOL, wouldn't work, as Max would just botch it up. :)
Fred Dryer was a professional football player for the Los Angeles Rams and played in the 1980 Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played Defensive End. I enjoyed this show and watching him play football. He was a great football player and actor.
Am I the only one who ever noticed that this guy NEVER wears underwear? I couldn't be the only one. It's like he's smugglin' ferrets down there! The guy is nearly 7 feet tall, but dang! He must be hung like a mule team!
has ANYONE noticed that the first two theme songs do not include Hunter's catchphrase that always ended the NBC versions? name that catchphrase. AND YES I know it
Dude, I used to watch this when I was 3 years old and I know that catchphrase. I just started bitching out loud because I watched the season 1 intro and he didn't say it. "Works For Me."
My biggest complaint besides not using the season 2 intro was that they edited out EVERY good regular classic song (from Jim Croce to Talking Heads to the Fix) from the Season 1 DVD release and put in some crappy unrealsed tunes that just didn't mix.
They did, but this is from a TV Land rerun, as they plastered the original S2 credits w/ the S1 credits, while maintaining the S2 theme tune.
Some scenes used on the original S2 credits (used on its NBC run and local reruns) featured some of the scenes that was also used in the S3 credits as well, plus an even closer shot for Rick handing Dee Dee the towel w/ the lights on & him barging out of the women's bathroom & the shot of him saying his catchphrase inside the office, instead of outside.
Even the writers weren't happy with season 1. Luckily, they brought in writers from the old Rockford Files in the second season and the show found its' groove.
I couldn't watch the revival at first due to my schedule, then when I finally had the time, I found out that it had been canceled! They should try again. They need a little more unrealism in police dramas nowadays. Kind of funny, actually, since Law & Order was coming in as Hunter was going out.
@jjjred1987 if you were a fan of this show, you would know that each opening used to end with Hunter saying his trademark catchphrase: 'Works for me!"
@jjjred1987 Hunter did get a reboot a few years ago, if memory serves. Unfortunately, NBC killed the reboot before it even got started. Of the original series, Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer would be available to do a reboot(IF they wanted to try it again).
Thanks for having this video for everyone to see. This is my favorite of all the Hunter intros, mainly because i think that the music best fits the show.
No its not the correct season 2 intro, for some reason the DVD has seasons 1 and 2 as the same, but they weren't. I know because I taped them on VHS when the show was new.
It's all Stephen Cannell's fault! He's one of the worst ever when it comes to providing unedited episodes for DVD releases.
Virtually all of them have all the typical problems of sloppy DVD releases (edited episodes, music substitutions, altered dialog, etc.) Is he not aware of the fact that fans of his work do not want edited episodes?
Originally, S2's opening credits had a different sequence. Some of the shots used in S3's opening actually were originally used in S2. An even closer and slightly different shot of Dee in the tub was used. Also, a different shot of Hunter saying his catchphrase was used, and shots of Hunter charginng into a house with a shotgun are used.
@AaronBruceLadner I also wanted to get the DVD collection for Hunter

Originally, S2's opening credits had a different sequence. Some of the shots used in S3's opening actually were originally used in S2. An even closer and slightly different shot of Dee in the tub was used. Also, a different shot of Hunter saying his catchphrase was used, and shots of Hunter charginng into a house with a shotgun are used.

I was thinking the same thing, because I know there's a shot where he says, "Works for me!", while he's at the station.
