It really looks like Christine Daaé's dress (which was a replica of one of Sissi's dresses, if I'm not mistaken?) but this video immediately reminded me of the Sound of Music ("Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes..." :))
@ethalinia It was meant to look like Christine's dress, but it is not really a 'replica' of Sissi's famous white dress, more a lose reimagination of it.
Do you plan on going to a historical ball? I hope you practiced some dances, and you're going to need your hair done in lots of ribbons or jewels as well. XD
OMG This is the most amazing thing on Youtube!!!!! I've been looking for a really pretty old fashion dress that someone actually made ant this is absolutely perfect!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TEACH US HOW TO MAKE ONE TOOOO!!!!!!!!!
@ottergirl212 At the moment I am by far too busy but ,aybe some day in the future the right fabric will find it's way into my hands and I will make another one... and of course I'll share it then^^
@elvensith001 If you could see the seams in a closeup you would think differently ;)
Dresses like that really aren't too difficult in design, the problematic part are all the sparkling stones, tulle-ruffles etc... takes forever and is quite expensive.
She sits down and it's like POOF!!! I once had to ride the school bus wearing a full length skirt and crinoline while carrying a french horn- that was interesting, although the crinoline was not quite so big as that one... I was only 13 at the time- how much fabric can a 4'9" 13 year old girl wear anyway?
@SnappyRiver I drove myself to my local fabric store, dressed in an empire line style dress, to show someone there what I had made with the fabric I purchased from them. I had on an A-Line petticoat. I can't imagine driving if I'd had on a hoop skirt! I came to the conclusion, that the automobile industry changed women's fashions!
@Frosti2008 'To look almost pretty, is an aquisition of higher delight to a girl who has been looking plain the first fifteen years of her life, than a beauty from her cradle can ever receive.' ~Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
Najaaa, also historisch koreckt wär das jedenfalls nicht^^ Da setzt man sich einfach hinten draufa ber niemals hochheben..denn hey..da siehst du ka von hinten die Unterhose eventuell. Wäre also historisch keinesfalls koreckt abet hauptsache du kannst sitzen^^
@cdurgin321 It's pretty indeed, but every door becomes an obstacle, not to speak of stairs... plus that it's kind of dangerous to get near fire with it^^
Some girls obviously do still wear dresses like that. And surprisingly many guys lol
Do you ever wear it for occasions? Like a party? If so, Is it easy to dance with? Slow dancing I mean. Like, if someone is close to you does it push back wards because their legs are close? Or does it kind of give way. When you spin around, does it float out? Sorry for all the questions. :)
@cdurgin321 I never quite finished this dres... there is no bottom hem for example and the pattern never got completed from money- and patience-issues, so I usually don't wear it out. Dancing would technically work, and if someone is close it's pushed back because the steelwire I used was quite thick, it also doesn't quite float out for the same reason. I could exchange the crinoline with a lighter one or a number of petticoats though, that would have the effect and be easier to wear.
@cdurgin321 It's made out of popelin (cotton I think) and the skirt has an extra-layer of tulle over it. It's a very light, comfortable material and not too heavy on the crinoline.
@cdurgin321 Really shiny satin always has the side-effect of looking quite 'cheap' if you make a whole dress out of it... not the most flattering fabric you could find, but I guess that depends on the individual taste, some really seem to like it^^
Ah ok now I get it... I made that dress myself so you have the choice: either make one by yourself or look it up online, if you search for sites for historical fashion and costumes you will probably find one where you can order dresses and crinolines.
In the dress itself not so much... but the size of the room is somewhat an obstacle. Same goes for doors etc. And sitting on a chair is pretty much out of the question, just like putting on your shoes by yourself^^
I love the back views... illustrates the width of the hoop nicely! The bow cascading down the back is reflective of Scarlett O'hara's barbecue dress - which is delicious!
needs a petticoat or two to cover the hoops

How big is the skirt's circumference? And how high up does it stand from waist to the bottom?
john2800100 11 months ago
@john2800100 First one I'd say about 4 meters but second one... don't even know what exactly you're asking about sorry^^
Goldkehlchen20 11 months ago
@Goldkehlchen20 What I meant to say was, "what is the actual height of the skirt?"
john2800100 11 months ago
@john2800100 You mean hight of where the skirt starts in relation to my body or length of the skirt?

If you were to wear a dress I wouldn't judge you^^ It's really comfortable you know.

I bet it is. :). What is it made out of . It looks like is made out of some sort of sheer satin on the inside.
