I still think the whole story and plot behind this first Star Trek Motion Picture is the strongest and most Intriguing Idea ever explored in all the Star Trek movies. And many fans even consider this first film the worst of the lot, where every other sequel has simply just been another villain that either wants to destroy Earth, The Federation of Kirk lol. The Idea that a probe sent out by NASA evolves to become a living machine in its own right is a very intriguing Idea so hats off to Gene
Does anyone else remember them referring to Voyager coming from the 19th century, instead of the 20th? Always bugged the hell out of me, but this clip cuts off right before that line. And I think they took it out of re-releases, since it was an obvious goof.
So the machine aliens built all that apparatus around the Voyager 6 probe to help it get back to Earth - but didn't think to clean a bit of dirt off its nameplate?
@Dristarg Albert Einstein developed his Special theory of relativity, but couldn't tie his own shoelaces, apparently. Seems appropriate they'd have forgotten about the nameplate.

So---this super smart space probe-computer-V'ger whatever-thing---didn't have enough smarts to wipe a smudge of dirt from it's nameplate?

They say this film sucked, but I think it's a great Star Trek Film that went back to it's roots better than the other movies did.

Is this the origin of the Borg?
technologic21 3 months ago
i knew this movie was made before the idea of the borg was born, but if we play with the theory, could V´ger be a Borg from the future?

@CMVBrielman They said this probe was launched in 1996. Clearly that didn't happen.
