Reading through the responses here reminds me why I just can't embrace any organized Christian church. I've tried several times over my life to join a church and take part in a community of warship but was always so turned off by people like those of you who've sharply criticized "Love Wins" here. The is the first book I've read in a long time that actually made me want to maybe try to seek out community. I guess I'll just continue to believe what I believe on my own
@nuticket CS Lewis' The Great Divorce" , John Stott, I read in an article that he was a Conditionalist and FF. Bruce, states in a preface to "The Fire That Consumes" that he shares CS. Lewis' philosophical views on hell. I've read lots and for years so not always able to reference specifics but just make a mental note. The best book I've read on hell and Conditionalism is by Edward Fudge. "The Fire that Consumes". Very well documented and logical. Still in print.
@TheCrossConnection There is a movie coming out on the life of Edward Fudge. It will be out in 2012. It is very well made! I can't wait. I believe tha tGod is about to reveal the truth about Hell to the masses! It is good to see there are those out there that know Edward Fudge. Type in Hell and Mr. Fudge to watch the trailer.
"CS Lewis, FF Bruce, John r Stott did not have traditional views of hell" can you reference these or direct me to where/ why you say that? It would help in my discussions with my discussions with my friends in the "eternal lake of tormenting, punishing fire" camp.
Thanks for posting this video. I, myself, have read Rob Bell's book twice. I found it to be one of the best books I have read in a long, long time. Do I agree with everything Bell wrote? No. Do I think Rob Bell is a heretic, leading people astray from the truth? NO!! Did Bell get me to rethink what I understand about God, Heaven, and Hell? Yes. And I think that is Bell's intention in writing 'Love Wins'.
@jmprov356 Like the Pharisees of old, you are loaded with dogma and void of love for anyone not on your personal bandwagon. Calling people yahoos? Really! This is your brand of Christianity? Why don't you just start your own "Office of the Inquisition" and martyr anyone who disagrees with you? Reality check! If you had bothered studying Systematic Theology you would have discovered the truth of samsonslmpson's remark that people interpret in various ways. But only yours is correct?
Nice, Brent. I told you in an earlier post that you were misleading people with your affirmation of Bell's book, and now you've encouraged yahoo's like the one below spouting such nonsense as "all of the teachings and lessons except for the 10 commandments and a few other things are up for interpretation and therefore will vary from person to person..." God intended with His Word to communicate Truth to His people, not everyone believing whatever they feel. "One Faith, one Lord, one Baptism"
Brent Little is one of the only people i've listened to on this topic that is LEVEL HEADED review. I concur with Mr. Little, I don't agree with everything Bell says, but some of his points of view i do, as well as provoking though. Hearing some of these Video's makes me embarrassed to call myself a Christian, because of the self distributiveness and lack of unity in our faith. So what Rob views things differently than most, if you look deep enough, no two people have the exact same beliefs.
daboomerang319 You all just keep missing the point. Jesus only got mean with the religious leaders who were entrenched in their dogmas and traditions to the point they missed the point. And Rob Bell is the farthest things from a Pharisee I can think of. He seems a little weird to me, and off on some of his understanding of certain doctrines, but so are the majority of the main line preachers out there. But you should work on your false dichotomies before engaging in sarcasm.
@TheCrossConnection Well, is it really imperative for us to know many things some individuals bring up? The main point is, we need to be saved, Confess out sin to God, ask for forgiveness, spread the word, be humble, be changed into a new creature as it says, defend the word of God when necessary, do right things by God, no lying, stealing, give to the poor if you can etc, I mean I don't get why people make the other issues so important. The major thing is we need to be saved.
@TheCrossConnection Avoiding false Gospels and everything else just comes with that, prayer, reading the bible in context, asking for understanding of it by God. When someone doesn't teach that Jesus Christ saves and you need to be saved, and need a relationship with God, then he's spreading a false gospel. Also, it matters not about Hell in specifics or if we just cease to exist after death if not saved, you shouldn't want either especially if you actually want to seek God and become Christian.
@TheCrossConnection In discussion about hell there really should be no problems, because the bible is final authority, someone can look in the bible, and see what it says about Hell, damnation, judgement day etc, I'm not interested in what Rob Bell or anyone else says about it, only what the bible says, and if someone wants to discuss it using the bible as source, it's all fine, so long as they are not twisting scripture for their view. I do hope, Rob Bell teaches the Gospel though, correctly.
Those mean critics. how dare they say mean things about Rob Bell. People actually said that his theology is heresy? Did they read the book? It's like saying the Satanic Bible is wrong without really reading it. Jesus never said anything mean to anyone. He was always nice and pleasant. He would never want to hurt the Pharisees feelings. Those parts of the bible are additions so don't believe when you read Jesus flipped tables and called people sons of hell. He is not a big meany.
@daboomerang319 Wait a second... Are you saying that part of the gospels, the core message of the Bible, is an addition? Yet you are not saying anything about some of Rob Bell's teaching having root in the Apocrypha! The gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are part of THE Canon, the actual God-inspired books of the Bible, while the apocrypha is not. And I have a question for you, "Do you have to be shot in the foot to know that it hurts?"
@jmprov356 I've read the bible a number of times, heard thousands of sermons by hundreds of preachers, and read xyz amount of Christian books and commentaries but I have yet to come across one scripture verse that even remotely suggests that you will go to hell if you don't believe in the traditional view of hell. And to extrapolate that leading others away from that traditional view merits being sent to hell as a heretic, well that's just more empty assumption with no scriptural support.
@seizetheday1234 Your assumptions demonstrate just how clueless you and those of your ilk willfully choose to be. Has anyone thought of asking me what I do believe? No, because assumptions lend themselves better to building a straw man that's easy to attack. And it doesn't really matter that this straw man doesn't exist, as long as the herd of sheep that's being catered to believe that it does. Time to take the training wheels off and do some independent thinking for a change!
"Thank you for this. I think we often let the people who have a fairly narrow perspective fill up social media with their thoughts and thus make their views as the prominent image of christianity..... I think this video is a good example of how we can provide a wider range of perspectives to represent christianity to the public..."
Sincerely, Satan
(jk - but if the devil (and I'm sure you don't believe he exists either) were to weigh in, he'd probably say much of what you said above)
Thank you for this. I think we often let the people who have a fairly narrow perspective fill up social media with their thoughts and thus make their views as the prominent image of christianity. I think many people like me have not commented before on things because we did not find disagreeing with people overly useful. However, we do not need to disagree and I think this video is a good example of how we can provide a wider range of perspectives to represent christianity to the public.
Interestingly, MacArthur goes much further in his condemnation: "We have a duty not only to expose, refute, and silence Rob Bell’s errors, but also to urge people under his influence to run as fast and as far as they can from him, lest they be gathered into the eternal hell he denies.........In a series of posts this week, we will demonstrate from Rob Bell’s own published works that he has long been hostile to virtually every vital gospel truth......." Time to pull this promotion, Brent!
Brent: Uh-oh, looks like one of your respected teachers thinks you're promoting "deadly false doctrines": John MacArthur: "If Christopher Hitchens or Deepak Chopra penned a book that scoffed at the biblical teaching on hell, we would not be surprised. So why would anyone be shocked or confused when Rob Bell writes Love Wins? Has Bell shown any more commitment to gospel truth, or any more devotion to the principle of biblical authority than Hitchens or Chopra?" Ouch!
@androcracy I pray you come to honor and obey the scriptures like the one that says: "Who are you that judges another man's servant? to his own master he stands or falls. Yes, he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand." (Rom 14:4 KJV) I suppose that in order to be saved I must also believe that all women should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen? = androcracy. Does Acts 16:31 say "believe in everlasting torment and you shall be saved"? What version is that?
Pt 2 He uses the NIV version and, consequently makes some serious mistakes. He claims, for example, that scripture never mentions there being mansions in the sky. But John 14:2 reads: In my Father's house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
The same Greek word for manision is than translated into "abode" in verse 23.
He never explains the use of terms in the bible such as antichrists and children of satan.
Thank you for being a voice of reason. The Book is lovely and uplifting. Why so many narrow minded naysayers insist on keeping their panties in a twist about it instead of just giving it a chance is beyond me ;)
Retreaded? Every generation has had those who have raised these questions and each generation has found a way to silence those questioners. Torture and burning at the stake worked. Excommunication worked. Today its just a milder form of the Office Of The Inquisition. And in none of the generations have the persecutors had the common sense to just answer the questions because they always let the "heavy-lifters" do their thinking for them. Keeping the masses dumbed down & silenced in fear!
@jmprov, your evasions & misunderstandings appear to be a smokescreen for more evasion. There's a difference between accusations of and the reality of name-calling. A ton of name-calling is going about Bell. Only one obsession going on: Universalism. I keep saying there's a lot more to the book but you need to read it instead of letting others do your "heavy lifting" There is no name-calling in my Booyah comment. The clip is a mockery & a waste of time. But off topic. NICE is sarcasm.
@TheCrossConnection I pray you come to know Jesus someday. You are aiding in the miss leading of many people with the relativistic approach to truth and scripture presented in this video. Very sad. Again, let me challenge you to ask the Lord Jesus for an explicit, blatant experience of the Lord Jesus. If we humble our hearts willing to sacrifice all for the Truth, He will show you. As it is, I know you don't have the Holy Spirit of Truth. God have mercy on you.
I made this video because I saw that the book raises many questions that evangelicals are either too indoctrinated to comprehend OR just plain afraid to ask because they fly in the face of the simple, pat explanations we've been fed all along. I say again, answer the questions that Bell raises! Don't evade them by name calling. That doesn't solve anything except make those who do the name-calling look ill-equipped and dull. I'm familiar with all the angles here and await intelligent answers.
Sorry - again I have to say this book is just old retreaded bad doctrine with a shiny new cover. This book only raises questions for those who don't know much about the Bible, much in the same way the question "If I'm in a runaway elevator plummeting to the ground, and I jump up at the last second, will I be ok?" is an intriguing question for someone who doesn't understand physics. The only real question this book raises is: how many people will be led astray by this terrible doctrine?
@TheCrossConnection Enough with the "name-calling" accusations. Every objection raised in the comments here have been about substantive issues and about straightforward questions related to the books message that you refuse to answer. And by the way, you should take your own advice. In the YouTube video "Love Wins - Booyah Parody - Rob Bell", you lovingly posted this: "What was the point of this disjointed clip? GET A JOB AND STOP WASTING TIME." NICE. That was informative and edifying...
If I wanted to point someone who was confused to a book....it sure wouldn't be to Rob Bell's book on Love Wins or even someone on the other end of the spectrum. The best book about love, redemption, forgiveness, etc. is the Bible. I think we can all stop asking "have you read Rob's book?" and start asking each other "have you read God's book?" There is ONE interpretation to the Bible. There are many applications. Rob's interpretation is OFF. Hell is unescapable after death. Don't be deceived.
The Bashir interview was an ambush and a farce. If you don't have the ability to descern this there is nothing left to say other than you have not read the book and therefore should not comment on it. You just keep missing the point. I was referring to attacking Rob Bell, not me. But that's been the problem all along. You are always on a different page and just not paying attention.
Farce? Bell embarrassed himself. He came off evasive and defensive, when as a pastor he should have eagerly been "ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you". Just like you here. You've been asked a number of times to answer the real question "if someone dies an unbeliever, will they still have a chance at salvation in the afterlife?" Bell says yes. Is this your position? Or will you need another $2000 of Bible Software to figure it out...
@jmprov356 What is interpretation? A conclusion drawn from ones own series of understandings based on ones own personal experiences in life. Therefore all of the teachings and lessons except for the 10 commandments and a few other things are up for interpretation and therefore will vary from person to person. So how can you claim that your interpretation of Gods teachings are accurate and others aren't? And you even go as far as to condemn those whos interpretations vary even though the people
@jmprov356 you are condemning are Christians. It sound incredibly arrogant and prideful to me that you would defend your own interpretations of the bible as fact. You're allowed to have an opinion but it doesn't mean you can go around telling people who is a real christian, and who is not based on your interpretation. Further more Brent doesn't even believe in the universalist view as he stated in previous comments. He simply stated that the author raised refreshing points about gods love and
@jmprov356 and understanding. Stop pointing your finger at everyone or you will end up caging your mind in a prison of one sided arguments and beliefs based on a personal interpretation, that will ultimately drive potential would be Christians away. I've known too many non Christians who make the fact that they can't stand religious people because they can never think outside of the box of traditional Christianity. Keep the vids coming Brent!
@TheCrossConnection Actually, Bell has been preaching everything that's in the book for years it's just that many people don't listen to him enough to notice. Why would anyone have to piss away their hard earned money to support this heretic? As I said before sound, godly, reputable men have already read it and have given the warning. I don't need to consume rat poison to know it's harmful, just the same I don't need to read another Bell book to know it's goat food.
I've invited people to read this book because I expect them to be mature and intelligent enough to read past the universalist business. Bell is asking intelligent questions that apparently no one is able to answer. What to do? Oh yes, let's name-call. That always works when we're perplexed by questions we are afraid to even think about. Why don't all you critics attempt to answer those questions instead of attacking the person who has asked them. Oh yeah, You're afraid of them. Sounds Medieval.
Brent: This is disappointing. You have a Masters in Biblical Studies. $8000 in Bible Software. Lots of books. 10 years as a Pastor! And you have even studied under two of the best Bible teachers of our day. We just need you to reconcile the inconsistent positions you've taken regarding Bell's statements: Can unrepentant people be reconciled to God (saved) after they die, or not? You've both stated you agree with this statement AND that you've said no such thing. Which is it?
@bella50008 You make a good point, and you are absolutely correct that this teaching is just evil and from the pit. My hope, because Brent seemed like a reasonable guy, and his other videos are pretty good, was that maybe he just didn't read the book too closely, or maybe didn't understand the significance of what Bell's theories imply. Unfortunately, he's obviously pretty hardened, and really isn't concerned that these lies might provide false comfort for those who are unsaved. Oh well.
Brent: You are doing the same thing that I've noticed with Bell as well. In the Bashir interview, he ducks questions about the inconsistencies of his positions, stating that "he's a pastor" (as if his great "empathy" gives him a pass to not have to account for his words). I'm always suspicious when Christians won't eagerly contend for the truth, and instead play the role of victim. YOU posted this endorsement; we're attacking your positions, not you. If you think it's truth, defend it.
@TheCrossConnection This book is anything but good. And I have read it. He makes some serious and obvious mistakes. He teaches that God would have to be evil to condemn people to hell. He, therefore, does not understand that part of God's character that demands justice. Bell argues from a seculatist point of view. He reads what he believes rather than believe what he reads.
His explaination of Lazarus and the rich man is one of the worse I've ever heard.
@TrustinJC You correctly state that part of God's character demands justice. Humans are, by definition, finite. So tell me: how is justice demonstrated by punishing a person who committed finite sin (and I mean anything from a selfish thought Mother Theresa may have had to Hitler's holocaust) with INFINITE torment? How do you square that with Jesus' work (Romans 5:18-19...actually, read the whole paragraph - closely).
@vikingdoula I've made videos explaining that sin is not finite. It has eternal consequences. The world is changed forever because of sin. Just look at the example of the first sin committed by Adam and Eve.
We are also told that time ceases to exist when the new heaven and earth are created. Our concept of eternal under these circumstances is very limited because we cannot begin to imagine what eternity is like when you do away with the dimension of time.
@TrustinJC The sin of Adam is addressed in Romans 5:18-19: "Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for ALL MEN, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for ALL MEN. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the MANY were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one many the MANY will be made righteous." How is the "all" who are condemned different from the "all" who were given life? (Cont...)
How is the "many" who were made sinners different from the "many" who will be made righteous? By insisting that despite Jesus' work on the cross, billions of people will suffer eternal torment due to "their own choice," aren't you saying that the sin of Adam is greater than the work of Christ? And haven't you made an idol of man's "free will?" I encourage you to investigate more scriptures at hopebeyondhell-dot-net.
Wow... this video is a perfect example of the warnings provided in Scriptures regarding how powerful false teachers will be leading up to the End of Days. Basically, according to this video (yes, this is a paraphrase): "Hey, Rob Bell abuses Scripture and falsely presents God's Word to ignorant seekers, but hey! It's totally OK! Read it anyway, because distorting Truth is peachy, so long as it is "just a little bit""
@jmprov356 No, I was not perplexed at all about that statement because it is true! There have been those since the beginnings that believed exactly that. It doesn't mean that their belief is true, but it is true that there have been those who have believed it and I pointed out a few famous ones in my video. So I DO know this stuff after all. Still haven't answered the question. Did you read the book? Quoting from a page does not prove a thing. A yes or no answer will suffice.
@TheCrossConnection - Ahh, so you believe it's true, eh? Ok. You implied earlier that you didn't think the unrepentant could be reconciled to God after death. If that's true (and I agree with you that it is), then the ONLY way for "All TO BE RECONCILED TO GOD" would be for everyone to profess faith in Christ before they die. You believe that? The Muslim suicide bomber, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung - they all became Christians before they died? Clearly you haven't thought this through.
@jmprov356 Great questions. I too am confused regarding TheCrossConnection's position. Rob Bell is a false teacher, why is it so hard to reject his nonsense? Doesn't matter how much Truth the Enemy mixes with his lies, it is still poison. Sorry for the cliche, but if I gave you a glass water that was 90% pure and 10% arsenic, would you still want to drink it? Bell's "water" contains a lot more arsenic than that, & the thirsty person would do well to avoid his tainted wells.
@jmprov356 I never said that it was possible for the unrepentant to be reconciled to God *after* death. Why are you assuming that? Did you even watch my video? Your response seems to indicate otherwise. And you neglected to answer my question. Did you even read "Love Wins"? Read and comprehend? The grand majority of people who are up in arms about the book have NOT read it! Why do they feel qualified to comment? I think being well informed first would be a prerequisite to the debate.
Brent: I never said YOU said it. Rob Bell says it, and you (unfortunately), are promoting Rob Bell and his false teaching. Weren't you just a bit perplexed at this statement "At the center of the Christian tradition since the first church have been a number who insist that history is not tragic, hell is not forever, and love, in the end, wins AND ALL WILL BE RECONCILED TO GOD." (p. 109).
Add to this Bell's statement in an interview on the Huffington Post that "If we have the freedom to choose these things now, that Jesus came to offer us and show us, then I assume that when you die, you can continue to choose these realities because love cannot co-opt the human heart's ability to decide," and you have a guy that is deceiving a lot of people. And you are his affable and very undiscerning accomplice. As a Christian teacher, you have responsibility to know this stuff.
@TheCrossConnection Those of us who have become familiar with Bell over the years are pretty confident about the content and assessment of Bell's book. If christians read every book written by a false teacher that landed on the shelf, we would never have time to do anything else. I know enough about Joel Osteen's "theology" that when he releases a new book, the content is going to be in line with what I already know. Besides, I don't need to taste rat poison to know it's bad.
Some of you are missing the very point I was making. Stop making this just about universalism. I am NOT a universalist!! The book is about much more. READ IT then comment. Ready, fire, aim is not a reasonable approach. Those who are turned off by the controversy are not looking to get their ears tickled. They are the unsaved who view this frenzied attack as something they want nothing to do with and when Jesus gets attached to it, they figure He's nuts too. The "fresh" is not about universalism.
I like your thoughtful delivery, but disagree strenuously with your commentary, especially at 4:45 where you state Bell's book is for those confused by and/or turned off by the controversy; i.e., people who don't care about doctrine and who simply want their ears tickled. And this isn't "fresh"--just a few years ago Carlton Pearson came out as a universalist. He was honest and forthright about it, unlike Bell who wants to hold heretical notions but still be an evangelical "rock star" pastor.
I knew a guy who had played trumpet for over 20 years. Loved it. Had an expensive horn, took lessons from great teachers, and was, unfortunately, terrible. I appreciate the fact that you've spent a lot of time and money on bible "stuff", but if you think it's possible for the unrepentent to be reconciled to God *after* death, well.........maybe MacArthur and Hocking have a money-back guarantee you should look into. A promise: NO WAY does Johnny Mac believe this book is anything but heresy.
@jmprov356 I didn't find one bit of incoherent nonsense In the book. Did you even read it? If not, that is called bearing false witness. Perhaps you are just parroting stuff that other heresy hunters are bearing false witness about. And concerning "those who know the bible", I've been studying it for 42 years, have a Masters in Biblical Studies, 2,500 biblical reference books & commentaries, $8,000 in bible software, 10 years a Baptist Senior Pastor. Studied under John MacArthur, David Hocking
Brent: None of Rob Bell's stuff is "new" or "fresh" - it's just new and fresh TO YOU. Unfortunately, to those Christians who know the Bible, Bell's book is just incoherent nonsense that, if believed, will mislead many away from the truth of the Gospel. Now, if that is true, it's kinda hard to extend a "courtesy" and a high five to one the bible would call a "false teacher". Sorry if that sounds mean, "bigoted" (???), and unloving - but as Christians, we're compelled to tell it like it is.
As far as there being strong responses to Rob Bell, remember Peter's great confession about Jesus being the Christ. Jesus then tells about His upcoming rejection, suffering, death and ressurection. Peter disagrees with Him, and Jesus rebukes him sharply. When Rob Bell disagrees with Jesus, we need to respond. I will clearly show Rob that I am spitting out these seeds
I'm always concerned when a teaching is called "fresh" or when someone believes that the Good News needs to be made relevant. Paul wrote about preaching the simple truth of the Gospel. Do people respond to God because of the wisdom of the preacher and his fresh, new understanding of God? No, they respond because God calls them and His instrument is still the simple truth of the Gospel.
I would like to add that I'm not advocating everything that Rob Bell has taught before. He may have taught some odd stuff other places. But this "Love Wins" book is full of good stuff. Be an intelligent and gracious adult ~ eat the fruit and spit out the seeds.
Thanks for bringing to light the reactionary nature of many of us Christians, who often respond as if God is offended and requires some sort of abrasive retaliation from his followers.
Finally! A rational and compassionate view! I have been waiting to read this book for myself to find out for myself what it is all about. Very refreshing!
I guess I'll just continue to believe what I believe on my own

daboomerang319 You all just keep missing the point.
TheCrossConnection 10 months ago
@TheCrossConnection Well, is it really imperative for us to know many things some individuals bring up? The main point is, we need to be saved, Confess out sin to God, ask for forgiveness, spread the word, be humble, be changed into a new creature as it says, defend the word of God when necessary, do right things by God, no lying, stealing, give to the poor if you can etc, I mean I don't get why people make the other issues so important. The major thing is we need to be saved.
Shadowlooker12 4 months ago
@TheCrossConnection Avoiding false Gospels and everything else just comes with that, prayer, reading the bible in context, asking for understanding of it by God. When someone doesn't teach that Jesus Christ saves and you need to be saved, and need a relationship with God, then he's spreading a false gospel. Also, it matters not about Hell in specifics or if we just cease to exist after death if not saved, you shouldn't want either especially if you actually want to seek God and become Christian.
Shadowlooker12 4 months ago
@TheCrossConnection In discussion about hell there really should be no problems, because the bible is final authority, someone can look in the bible, and see what it says about Hell, damnation, judgement day etc, I'm not interested in what Rob Bell or anyone else says about it, only what the bible says, and if someone wants to discuss it using the bible as source, it's all fine, so long as they are not twisting scripture for their view. I do hope, Rob Bell teaches the Gospel though, correctly.
Shadowlooker12 4 months ago
@TheCrossConnection But, I have seen a vid of a sort of his ideology on the bible, I don't think he's teaching correctly. Hopefully that changes.
Shadowlooker12 4 months ago
Those mean critics. how dare they say mean things about Rob Bell. People actually said that his theology is heresy? Did they read the book? It's like saying the Satanic Bible is wrong without really reading it. Jesus never said anything mean to anyone. He was always nice and pleasant. He would never want to hurt the Pharisees feelings. Those parts of the bible are additions so don't believe when you read Jesus flipped tables and called people sons of hell. He is not a big meany.
daboomerang319 10 months ago
@daboomerang319 Wait a second... Are you saying that part of the gospels, the core message of the Bible, is an addition? Yet you are not saying anything about some of Rob Bell's teaching having root in the Apocrypha! The gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are part of THE Canon, the actual God-inspired books of the Bible, while the apocrypha is not. And I have a question for you, "Do you have to be shot in the foot to know that it hurts?"
116cliquefanatic 10 months ago
@jmprov356 I've read the bible a number of times, heard thousands of sermons by hundreds of preachers, and read xyz amount of Christian books and commentaries but I have yet to come across one scripture verse that even remotely suggests that you will go to hell if you don't believe in the traditional view of hell. And to extrapolate that leading others away from that traditional view merits being sent to hell as a heretic, well that's just more empty assumption with no scriptural support.
TheCrossConnection 10 months ago
@seizetheday1234 Your assumptions demonstrate just how clueless you and those of your ilk willfully choose to be. Has anyone thought of asking me what I do believe? No, because assumptions lend themselves better to building a straw man that's easy to attack. And it doesn't really matter that this straw man doesn't exist, as long as the herd of sheep that's being catered to believe that it does. Time to take the training wheels off and do some independent thinking for a change!

Interestingly, MacArthur goes much further in his condemnation: "We have a duty not only to expose, refute, and silence Rob Bell’s errors, but also to urge people under his influence to run as fast and as far as they can from him, lest they be gathered into the eternal hell he denies.........In a series of posts this week, we will demonstrate from Rob Bell’s own published works that he has long been hostile to virtually every vital gospel truth......." Time to pull this promotion, Brent!
jmprov356 10 months ago

TheCrossConnection 10 months ago
Pt 2 He uses the NIV version and, consequently makes some serious mistakes. He claims, for example, that scripture never mentions there being mansions in the sky. But John 14:2 reads: In my Father's house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
The same Greek word for manision is than translated into "abode" in verse 23.
He never explains the use of terms in the bible such as antichrists and children of satan.

TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
@TheCrossConnection I pray you come to know Jesus someday. You are aiding in the miss leading of many people with the relativistic approach to truth and scripture presented in this video. Very sad. Again, let me challenge you to ask the Lord Jesus for an explicit, blatant experience of the Lord Jesus. If we humble our hearts willing to sacrifice all for the Truth, He will show you. As it is, I know you don't have the Holy Spirit of Truth. God have mercy on you.
androcracy 10 months ago
I made this video because I saw that the book raises many questions that evangelicals are either too indoctrinated to comprehend OR just plain afraid to ask because they fly in the face of the simple, pat explanations we've been fed all along. I say again, answer the questions that Bell raises! Don't evade them by name calling. That doesn't solve anything except make those who do the name-calling look ill-equipped and dull. I'm familiar with all the angles here and await intelligent answers.
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
Sorry - again I have to say this book is just old retreaded bad doctrine with a shiny new cover. This book only raises questions for those who don't know much about the Bible, much in the same way the question "If I'm in a runaway elevator plummeting to the ground, and I jump up at the last second, will I be ok?" is an intriguing question for someone who doesn't understand physics. The only real question this book raises is: how many people will be led astray by this terrible doctrine?
jmprov356 11 months ago
@TheCrossConnection Enough with the "name-calling" accusations. Every objection raised in the comments here have been about substantive issues and about straightforward questions related to the books message that you refuse to answer. And by the way, you should take your own advice. In the YouTube video "Love Wins - Booyah Parody - Rob Bell", you lovingly posted this: "What was the point of this disjointed clip? GET A JOB AND STOP WASTING TIME." NICE. That was informative and edifying...
jmprov356 11 months ago
If I wanted to point someone who was confused to a book....it sure wouldn't be to Rob Bell's book on Love Wins or even someone on the other end of the spectrum. The best book about love, redemption, forgiveness, etc. is the Bible. I think we can all stop asking "have you read Rob's book?" and start asking each other "have you read God's book?" There is ONE interpretation to the Bible. There are many applications. Rob's interpretation is OFF. Hell is unescapable after death. Don't be deceived.

The Bashir interview was an ambush and a farce. I was referring to attacking Rob Bell, not me. But that's been the problem all along. You are always on a different page and just not paying attention.
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
Or will you need another $2000 of Bible Software to figure it out...
jmprov356 11 months ago
@jmprov356 What is interpretation? A conclusion drawn from ones own series of understandings based on ones own personal experiences in life. Therefore all of the teachings and lessons except for the 10 commandments and a few other things are up for interpretation and therefore will vary from person to person. So how can you claim that your interpretation of Gods teachings are accurate and others aren't? And you even go as far as to condemn those whos interpretations vary even though the people
samsonslmpson 9 months ago
@jmprov356 you are condemning are Christians. It sound incredibly arrogant and prideful to me that you would defend your own interpretations of the bible as fact. You're allowed to have an opinion but it doesn't mean you can go around telling people who is a real christian, and who is not based on your interpretation. Further more Brent doesn't even believe in the universalist view as he stated in previous comments. He simply stated that the author raised refreshing points about gods love and

@TheCrossConnection Actually, Bell has been preaching everything that's in the book for years it's just that many people don't listen to him enough to notice. Why would anyone have to piss away their hard earned money to support this heretic? As I said before sound, godly, reputable men have already read it and have given the warning. I don't need to consume rat poison to know it's harmful, just the same I don't need to read another Bell book to know it's goat food.
gtrjunky 11 months ago
I've invited people to read this book because I expect them to be mature and intelligent enough to read past the universalist business. Bell is asking intelligent questions that apparently no one is able to answer. What to do? Oh yes, let's name-call. That always works when we're perplexed by questions we are afraid to even think about. Why don't all you critics attempt to answer those questions instead of attacking the person who has asked them. Oh yeah, You're afraid of them. Sounds Medieval.
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
Brent: This is disappointing. You have a Masters in Biblical Studies. $8000 in Bible Software. Lots of books. 10 years as a Pastor! And you have even studied under two of the best Bible teachers of our day. We just need you to reconcile the inconsistent positions you've taken regarding Bell's statements: Can unrepentant people be reconciled to God (saved) after they die, or not? You've both stated you agree with this statement AND that you've said no such thing. Which is it?
jmprov356 11 months ago
@jmprov356 .. the thing to think about is should anybody really support this guy - who is clearly supporting evil. Just asking.
bella50008 11 months ago

If you think it's truth, defend it.
jmprov356 11 months ago
@TheCrossConnection This book is anything but good. And I have read it. He makes some serious and obvious mistakes. He teaches that God would have to be evil to condemn people to hell. He, therefore, does not understand that part of God's character that demands justice. Bell argues from a seculatist point of view. He reads what he believes rather than believe what he reads.
His explaination of Lazarus and the rich man is one of the worse I've ever heard.
Con't
TrustinJC 11 months ago
@TrustinJC You correctly state that part of God's character demands justice. Humans are, by definition, finite. So tell me: how is justice demonstrated by punishing a person who committed finite sin (and I mean anything from a selfish thought Mother Theresa may have had to Hitler's holocaust) with INFINITE torment? How do you square that with Jesus' work (Romans 5:18-19...actually, read the whole paragraph - closely).
vikingdoula 11 months ago
@vikingdoula I've made videos explaining that sin is not finite. It has eternal consequences. The world is changed forever because of sin. Just look at the example of the first sin committed by Adam and Eve.
We are also told that time ceases to exist when the new heaven and earth are created. Our concept of eternal under these circumstances is very limited because we cannot begin to imagine what eternity is like when you do away with the dimension of time.
TrustinJC 11 months ago
@TrustinJC The sin of Adam is addressed in Romans 5:18-19: "Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for ALL MEN, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for ALL MEN. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the MANY were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one many the MANY will be made righteous." How is the "all" who are condemned different from the "all" who were given life? (Cont...)
vikingdoula 11 months ago
How is the "many" who were made sinners different from the "many" who will be made righteous? By insisting that despite Jesus' work on the cross, billions of people will suffer eternal torment due to "their own choice," aren't you saying that the sin of Adam is greater than the work of Christ? And haven't you made an idol of man's "free will?" I encourage you to investigate more scriptures at hopebeyondhell-dot-net.
vikingdoula 11 months ago
Wow... this video is a perfect example of the warnings provided in Scriptures regarding how powerful false teachers will be leading up to the End of Days. Basically, according to this video (yes, this is a paraphrase): "Hey, Rob Bell abuses Scripture and falsely presents God's Word to ignorant seekers, but hey! It's totally OK!
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
@TheCrossConnection - Ahh, so you believe it's true, eh? Ok. You implied earlier that you didn't think the unrepentant could be reconciled to God after death. If that's true (and I agree with you that it is), then the ONLY way for "All TO BE RECONCILED TO GOD" would be for everyone to profess faith in Christ before they die. You believe that? The Muslim suicide bomber, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung - they all became Christians before they died? Clearly you haven't thought this through.
jmprov356 11 months ago
@jmprov356 Great questions. I too am confused regarding TheCrossConnection's position. Rob Bell is a false teacher, why is it so hard to reject his nonsense? Doesn't matter how much Truth the Enemy mixes with his lies, it is still poison. Sorry for the cliche, but if I gave you a glass water that was 90% pure and 10% arsenic, would you still want to drink it? Bell's "water" contains a lot more arsenic than that, & the thirsty person would do well to avoid his tainted wells.
ManimalCrackers 11 months ago
We have enough sound, godly men who have done the heavy lifting and these men can be trusted when they tell what's in the book.
gtrjunky 11 months ago
@jmprov356 I never said that it was possible for the unrepentant to be reconciled to God *after* death. Why are you assuming that? Did you even watch my video? Your response seems to indicate otherwise. And you neglected to answer my question. Did you even read "Love Wins"? Read and comprehend? The grand majority of people who are up in arms about the book have NOT read it! Why do they feel qualified to comment? I think being well informed first would be a prerequisite to the debate.
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
Brent: I never said YOU said it. Rob Bell says it, and you (unfortunately), are promoting Rob Bell and his false teaching. Weren't you just a bit perplexed at this statement "At the center of the Christian tradition since the first church have been a number who insist that history is not tragic, hell is not forever, and love, in the end, wins AND ALL WILL BE RECONCILED TO GOD." (p. 109).
jmprov356 11 months ago
Add to this Bell's statement in an interview on the Huffington Post that "If we have the freedom to choose these things now, that Jesus came to offer us and show us, then I assume that when you die, you can continue to choose these realities because love cannot co-opt the human heart's ability to decide," and you have a guy that is deceiving a lot of people. And you are his affable and very undiscerning accomplice. As a Christian teacher, you have responsibility to know this stuff.
jmprov356 11 months ago
@TheCrossConnection Those of us who have become familiar with Bell over the years are pretty confident about the content and assessment of Bell's book. If christians read every book written by a false teacher that landed on the shelf, we would never have time to do anything else. I know enough about Joel Osteen's "theology" that when he releases a new book, the content is going to be in line with what I already know. Besides, I don't need to taste rat poison to know it's bad.
gtrjunky 11 months ago
Some of you are missing the very point I was making. Stop making this just about universalism. I am NOT a universalist!! The book is about much more. READ IT then comment. Ready, fire, aim is not a reasonable approach. Those who are turned off by the controversy are not looking to get their ears tickled. They are the unsaved who view this frenzied attack as something they want nothing to do with and when Jesus gets attached to it, they figure He's nuts too. The "fresh" is not about universalism.
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
I like your thoughtful delivery, but disagree strenuously with your commentary, especially at 4:45 where you state Bell's book is for those confused by and/or turned off by the controversy; i.e., people who don't care about doctrine and who simply want their ears tickled. And this isn't "fresh"--just a few years ago Carlton Pearson came out as a universalist. He was honest and forthright about it, unlike Bell who wants to hold heretical notions but still be an evangelical "rock star" pastor.
GaryPeterson67 11 months ago 3
I knew a guy who had played trumpet for over 20 years. Loved it. Had an expensive horn, took lessons from great teachers, and was, unfortunately, terrible. I appreciate the fact that you've spent a lot of time and money on bible "stuff", but if you think it's possible for the unrepentent to be reconciled to God *after* death, well.........maybe MacArthur and Hocking have a money-back guarantee you should look into. A promise: NO WAY does Johnny Mac believe this book is anything but heresy.
jmprov356 11 months ago
@jmprov356 I didn't find one bit of incoherent nonsense In the book. Did you even read it? If not, that is called bearing false witness. Perhaps you are just parroting stuff that other heresy hunters are bearing false witness about. And concerning "those who know the bible", I've been studying it for 42 years, have a Masters in Biblical Studies, 2,500 biblical reference books & commentaries, $8,000 in bible software, 10 years a Baptist Senior Pastor. Studied under John MacArthur, David Hocking
TheCrossConnection 11 months ago
Brent: None of Rob Bell's stuff is "new" or "fresh" - it's just new and fresh TO YOU. Unfortunately, to those Christians who know the Bible, Bell's book is just incoherent nonsense that, if believed, will mislead many away from the truth of the Gospel. Now, if that is true, it's kinda hard to extend a "courtesy" and a high five to one the bible would call a "false teacher". Sorry if that sounds mean, "bigoted" (???), and unloving - but as Christians, we're compelled to tell it like it is.
jmprov356 11 months ago
As far as there being strong responses to Rob Bell, remember Peter's great confession about Jesus being the Christ. Jesus then tells about His upcoming rejection, suffering, death and ressurection. Peter disagrees with Him, and Jesus rebukes him sharply. When Rob Bell disagrees with Jesus, we need to respond. I will clearly show Rob that I am spitting out these seeds
jsallenarl 11 months ago
I'm always concerned when a teaching is called "fresh" or when someone believes that the Good News needs to be made relevant. Paul wrote about preaching the simple truth of the Gospel. Do people respond to God because of the wisdom of the preacher and his fresh, new understanding of God? No, they respond because God calls them and His instrument is still the simple truth of the Gospel.
jsallenarl 11 months ago
I would like to add that I'm not advocating everything that Rob Bell has taught before. He may have taught some odd stuff other places. But this "Love Wins" book is full of good stuff. Be an intelligent and gracious adult ~ eat the fruit and spit out the seeds.
