  • Hell yes! I agree! Man a 12 second car is fast. Many people haven't been above 100mph. Let me see take a normal driver and put them in a 10 second car. It would not be pretty.

  • Who cares about fuel mileage when you want to go fast? a 9 mpg 10 sec car is way cooler than a 20 mpg 13 sec car. There are some fast imports out there. The American V8 designed 40 years ago still seems to be the king though. I can't believe someone mentioned an Si as a fast import. Weak.

  • lol you're an idiot. Yeah, and a charger can run 9s if it's got a hemi and a blower. An Si needs a lot more than a 'head' to run 9s. Maybe in the 1/8, but a regular civic si can barely pull 10s in the 1/8. Ask me how I know, I dare ya.

  • People today are idiots IMO. A 2002 Pontiac Trans-am WS6 with a manual tranny get's upwards of 28mpg as reported by the EPA and the average driver. A the new challenger with the 5.7L v6 is rated at 25mpg on the EPA website but most say 23mpg. Then people see the mustang and assume that all cars push 300hp with only 22mpg. While Japan has been working with 4 and 6 cylinders making MPG, America has been doing the same with v8 engines.

  • It mostly depends on driving style of course, but I've heard some crazy high mpg ratings out of some reasonably quick cars. A friend of mine has an '07 vette that he drove up from california getting high 20s the whole way. That is good for a car that'll run high 12s off the showroom floor. I doubt that this viper gets anything about 10 though...But WHO CARES when you can run low 10s?

I love american muscle, I own a 88 cutlass supreme myself, but to each their own. There are plenty of fast stop imports out there. Your just blinded because you hate ricers. Stop and think about it sometime. You'll realize how dumb that comment was.

  • You're right. Japan was kinda late getting into the high performance market. There were fast imports in japan before there were fast imports in america. And yes the civic si is a bit over-rated, but its the same motor in the rsx type s (which is 200hp) and thats a lot for a car that wieghs half of a chevelle.

  • actually to correct my previous post ... its the k20 that comes in the NON type S. Still a great economy car, fused with a bit of sportiness. I do agree they are over rated though.

    92-95 civic hatchbacks (which everyone and their grandmother drives) are great building blocks though. Incredibly light. 150whp in one of those is equivalent to almost 225whp in most coupes produced today.

  • Just in case any Supra lovers forgot, the car with the fastest max mph is the Hennessey Viper Venom 1000(that you can buy from a company). More hp and and higher top speed than a Veyron. And it does it with 6 less cylinders.

  • Faster? 10s on an 800hp sounds about right. Jerry Kennedy's Heffner 2002 GTS packs 1700hp, yes this is not a misprint, 1700 real horses, and the fastest run I have seen from that car is 8.75 @163mph. So yeah it takes 1700hp to peg an 8 and I agree with the Mustang comment, Im sure you could jam in about the same HP as this Hennessey and get in the 7's, like you said.

  • A: It doesn't take 1,700hp to peg an 8. Pac RX3 pushing the eights, untubbed with the original leaf springs, do some googling and you'll find it.

    B: If you're smart about it, fast imports are cheap -- however, you run into a wall in the mid eights, you will not be going much faster than that no matter how much you spend. At that point it becomes a cubewar, and rotaries can't win anymore.

  • Hell - the Hennessey 1000TT package will pull mid 8's on right around 1000rwhp, and that one (the 800) should be solidly in the 9's.

  • You can make a Skyline produce similar power, and be quite reliable, actually. It costs a lot more money, though, which is definately a cedeable point, though I suppose it could be argued that in australia at least, the base cost of a Viper is about $160,000 and up -- They never did lose value, and were imported for an exorbitant cost to begin with (even now they're $210,000 new).

    and they were 75k base new, but that is here in the US.

    but you can also get one used with 5k mi for 30k. not a bargain new, but used, they're a pretty good bargain.

  • Ben Diggles' S12. Full weight, street legal, single turbo FJ20ET running stock internals, and a GT35R. Simple modifications, 9.19 seconds -- It has to have an ANDRA cage and parachute according to the regs, but apart from the Mickey T's it wears on the runs, it's fully street legal.

    Eight litres vs. two, I think -one- turbo's fair, don't you?

  • Ben Diggles' S12. Full interior car running an FJ20ET with stock internals, GT35R and FMIC. Basic modifications, nothing stupidly serious. Stock five-speed behind it, tuned to perhaps 650hp. That's a single turbo, not a twin, off two litres, that manages 9.19 in street legal trim with a parachute attached and ANDRA cage, being as that it needs it and all. Eight litres vs. two, I think one turbo's fair, don't you?

  • That wasnt my point, the viper engine is 8L for a reason. The possibility of having 800 NA Hp on an engine that can be daily driven and is reliable is what the viper has always been about.

  • And just to clear this up before it goes into an import vs domestics thing. I have no problem with imports but you cant make a full weight import go as fast as a viper and still be reliable. The fastest six speed in the world is a viper which is full weight street legal and driven on the streets in Las vegas.
