  • Ugh he is just too perfect!

Also, "everybody knows that everybody dies!" lol (Silence in the Library)

  • one word... BRILLIANT!

one of my favorite actors ;)

  • aww ya hamlet!!! must go watch film now

  • It's unfair, I live in Poland and bbc is in no package!

  • wish he stayed on doctor who :(

  • I love this guy! I mean he was a time lord, a wizard & now hamlet!!!! Is there anything he cant do?

  • @EdHardy2552 Never heard it summed up better! Loved ALL his roles!

  • @EdHardy2552 Elf apparently. He was supposed to play the Elven king in the Hobbit, but alas it went to Lee Pace

  • @wannabedesi wow. That would have been Brilliant!!!

  • @EdHardy2552 He played a woman! And did it amazing. For as good actor the is no bad and too difficult role.

  • @EdHardy2552 Of course not. Don't forget he was also Csanova and Rousseau.

  • @LilyCity92 *Casanova

  • oooo.... with Patrick Stewart! Love it!!

  • I saw this in person, was sooooo goooooood :D

  • Best. Hamlet. Ever.

  • ps' 2nd crack at claudius!! hasn't changed a bit.

  • ugh! dont eva put hair back like that.......itz looks wrong on him!!!!

  • Whoa! Im not really used to see his hair back like that...ever.

Kinda like the time when I was watching the Goblet of Fire, I said one of the characters looked familiar. Them my mom said, "Thats David Tennant" and Im like WTF?

  • Shakespeare's hottest character... the world's hottest actor... I'm in love ♥

  • why is his gorgeous hair slicked back?!?

  • @KBradKicker13 Because he is playing Hamlet not Docter Who.

  • Is it sad that I see him here, and think he's just the doctor in disguise? :3

  • @SmileChicky that would be a really interesting story :D

  • What is it about Scotland that produces such talent? David Tennant and James McAvoy are probably the most amazing actors there are right now.

David is spellbinding in this role. It is a wonder to watch him.

  • I usually don't like modern dress versions of Shakespeare plays, they make me kind of uneasy (don't ask me why, I have no idea), but this looks really promising... Then again, with David Tennant in the lead role, how could it possibly fail? He's absolutely brilliant! (David Tennant with non-ruffled hair and no sideburns O.O So wrong!)

  • to quote GOB Bluth "yeah, the time lord in a 3 thousand dollar suit is going to get scolded by a Enterprise captain who doesn't make that in a week, COME ON!"

  • I've never read Hamlet, or seen it in any form. But I want to see this! By the way, is it just me, or does David look a lot older in this than he did as the Doctor?

  • david tennant was fantastic in this! as of course was patrick stewart! though being an obsessive fangirl i was mostly paying attention to david......

  • Patrick Stewart as Key and Keen a role in Hamlet!!

  • i want it here in Aus!!

  • David was so good in this, I saw it in October 08 and he was fantastic! There would be moments when Hamlet would be ranting on and getting really into it and I could just see the Doctor!! lol He was great and he was lovely too, cos I went to the stage door after and got a pic and autograph. He was so sweet and humble. Very willing to sign autographs and take photos. Lovely, lovely man =)

  • I'm SO disappointed that I missed this. I was up at college and couldn't get it on any of the TVs in the lounges. :( Thank goodness it's online, and I'm DEFINITELY buying a copy. Hamlet is probably my favorite Shakespeare I've read so far, and this version...well, really. Do I need to explain?

  • David Tennant , is my Hamlet. I love David Tennant plays Hamlet ,because you see how deeply he plays Hamlet. David, show us that Hamlet is so broken by the death of Hamlet's father. Knowing that his mother killed his only father breaks Hamlet's heart, David Tennant, is a very strong actor.

  • @kanze2u444 I'm a fan of David Tennant as Hamlet as well, but do you even know the story? His mother did not kill his father, his UNCLE did, hence the reason he's going back and forth between killing or sparing his uncle throughout all but the last act of the play.

  • OMG I WANNA WATCH IT SOO BAD!!!!!!

  • ....damn

    i wish i'd seen this

  • It was only yesterday when I saw Ethan Hawke do Hamlet and I didn't like it at all, when I see this I just kept cursing in my native language in awe! expressing how beautiful this guy does Hamlet! the facial expressions, the tone, it it it ... it gives me the chills! I love it, to sad in this God forsaken country of mine there will be no way I can see it on BBC or IPlayer or any other medium your 1st world countries have :(

  • @markosantos79 you van always look for a download online.

  • patrick stewart and david tennant r my fav actors!!!

  • I've been waiting more than 20 years for Patrick Stewart to come back to Shakespeare (well, in a way that us lowly Americans can see him). A Christmas Carol was well and good, but...SHAKESPEARE!

  • cool

  • Listen to Tennant's voice purposely crack at the end of this clip. He's an actor who understands that the Bard's words are not simply pretty-soinding but emotionally-charged.

  • DT is the best actor ever!! god I love him..

    <3

  • i miss his puffy hair :(

  • @ToddsTickler me too!

  • @ToddsTickler I miss the sideburns. XD

  • Phenomenal

  • I'll watch it but never make me read it, I'll be asleep again

  • David makes a very emo Hamlet, what with that skeleton shirt.

  • OMG!!!! I love shakespear. But throw in David Tennant AND Patrick Stewart and you've created a very happy fan!

  • Wow! I have got to see this! I love the story of hamlet and Tennant and Stewart is an epic combination!!!

  • PAtrick Steward & David Tennant = WIN!

  • Aaah it's Captain Picard and The Doctor in the same thing I can't wait for it to air on PBS

  • CAPTAIN PICARD and DOCTOR WHO in one BRILLIANTLY BRITISH play!

  • so stoked to see this!

  • picard's grown a beard

    but this is great!

  • wow

  • *Sueeee*

My two favorite things: Hamlet and David Tenant!

  • damn thats sexy...

  • Woot! Go David Tenant!

  • He's supposed to have veiled lids, seeking for his father in the dust (downcast eyes over his father's recent death).

  • Hmm. An alternate interpretation of 'veiled lids' might signify his loss of sleep over his mourning for his father.

  • its called acting

  • Can't wait for when it comes to PBS!

  • @iveseenspikynorman when will that be?

  • @stargazer584 It was in April, but you can watch it on the PBS website, or better yet get it on DVD :D

  • pure awesomeness

  • That hairdo is really odd on David Tennant.

  • i watched it on bbc4 last weekend if anyone wants to watch it try i player, DT is gorgeours .

  • What a gorgeous Gertrude!

  • Patrick Stewart! David Tennant! Awesome actor combination!

  • Yes! Yes! A thousand times, Yes! WOO!

  • @Joh739 Patrick Stewart= Capt. Jean-Luc Picard

    David Tennant= The Doctor

    AWESOMENESS

  • ooooooh!

  • i think the dvd is a great thing but somtimes i think it spoils theatre in the sense that it can be seen over you dont get the feeling of being lucky enough to have sat in the audience and witnessed it.

  • I just saw the DVD and would advise you all to buy it in triplicate. It's brilliant.

  • This DVD is going to totally ROCK!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see this on television and get the DVD. Being in the states, I couldn't see the play in England so this is even better because I get to see it over and over again. Now if they would hurry up and put WICKED on DVD I will have a great year.

  • I literally can't take this! It's too much! David Tennant as Hamlet = I may die of excitement/happiness. When is this showing in Canada?!? God, he's gorgeous! And then they have Patrick Stewart as Claudius! Woooo

  • PBS is airing it as of April 28 from what I've been hearing.

  • THE RIDDLER !

  • How did Patrick Stewart know David Tennant. And when David Tennant saw Johnny Depp in the movie of L.A. Without A Maps. That is so strange to me.

  • I just can't take it - Tennant AND Stewart on the same stage...I may die of happiness.

  • The last time I saw Patrick Stewart play Claudius, was opposite Derek Jacobi's Hamlet.

Jacobi now is old enough to play Claudius himself, or even Polonius, and yet Stewart looks and sounds EXACTLY the same, which is kind of spooky.

He'll probably still be playing Claudius when David Tennant is taking the role of Polonius...

  • I think Patrick Stewart is a vampire.

  • @ishtarg8 I suspect there is a picture of Patrick Stewart somewhere that does this whole aging thing for him.

  • Wow, A Dorian Gray reference. Well done.

  • Getting the VDD any day now!! Anticipation is attacking my brain with my love for David Tennant!

  • My god, he's amazing!!! I love Shakespeare and I love hearing David Tennant speak Shakespeare.

@yohanne14: Yeah, it sounds completely natural. Like I said, he's amazing. He IS Hamlet.

  • i totally agree i cant wait to finally watch this!!!!

  • he's brilliant! absolutely brilliant!.. when he speaks those lines in that old english way of speaking, it doesn't even sound like it's foreign to him.. when "his mother" speaks, you can hear that she not used to speak in that certain way, but when david speaks it's doesn't sound like anything he had to learn, but that it really is him making it up on the spot... what a terrific actor!

well that didn't make much sence :P

  • No it does make sense, I hadn't thought of that before; but you are right. It does sound like he is making it up on the spot, and the woman playing his mother is reading impossibly old lines.

  • I believe one does not 'play' Hamlet, they are Hamlet: TENNANT IS HAMLET!

  • Heck, yeah!!

  • this clip is from the scene we studied while reading hamlet in english today. it helps to see it performed. though i know quite well wt they are talking about and know about the matephors n things now i have studied this clip so the learning helped me watch too.

  • It said it will be shown over xmas.. Did i miss it????

  • yeah I missed it too, i was away :( and just can't find it anywhere - misery!!

  • Stewet and Tennant BRILLIANT actors they would do well in this

  • Stewart AND Tennant? brilliant!

  • David Tennant is brilliant. Wish I could watch this on tv aswell. Ah well, suppose that's what the internet is for...

  • i looove david tennant!!! i wish i cud watch this :( y cant we watch british shows in america?

  • @123wickedsweet don't you have BBC America? I don't know if this will/would have been shown in Ameirca but i you do have that channel thats where your more likely to find it

  • According to an interview I saw with Patrick Stewart, it is being broadcast on PBS in the United States.

  • Excellent! Dodgy T-shirt but!

  • Hey, is that Patrick Stewart? Awesome! Captain Picard is so badass.

  • They quoted hamlet in doctor who..I thought that was cleverly done..especially as only about 30% of the audience would have noticed.

  • gosh i could eat him whole, what an amazing performance!

  • I can't find it on bbciplayer I think they might have taken it off is there another place where I can watch this version ??

  • @ToRiHale I had that same problem to as I could not watch it on boxing day..I looked and I think its been taken off...if you find anywhere to watch it-I tried on here...can you let me know!!!

  • Is the background green-screened? It just looks so distant from everyone else lol. Other than tat i know think i really should have watched this on new-years day :D lol

  • He's a really good actor, but I can't see him as anything else but the Doctor.

  • @Sonor05

it's a shame he's done being the doctor

  • @MolotovDaSkwerl

I agree, I felt a little sad when Matt Smith showed up in the End of Time special, but we'll have to see how he does as the new Doctor.

  • @Sonor05

i think he'll do fine, if you seen an interview with him, he definately acts fitting to take up a similar behavior that david tennants doctor did, just in subtle body movements alone that made him so great

  • @MolotovDaSkwerl

I also think he'll be good as the Doctor. In the previews of the new season he seemed to have the same personality as David's Doctor.

  • @Sonor05

    no doubt

  • I honestly don't think he should be trying to be like "David's Doctor"

  • That's just what it looked like to me.

  • I'm not disputing that, I'm saying I don't think he should be.

  • i want to see this so bad! it's strange to see him without his hair sticking up all over the place, lol, but i love it!

and i have to say he can pull off Shakespeare very well. it suits him

  • Watching this makes me love David Tennant even more.

  • Just finished watching this production. Magical. Wonder if they'll make it available on DVD?

  • i;m alsofrom demark so yay!

  • omg! i know love shakespear! lol

  • if the laws of nature allowed it, i would bear that mans children.

  • @jahoodunrama

    Ellis, is that you? :)

  • haha, im glad someone recognized it

  • It's really interesting to see David Tennant playing a character that is considering suicide.

Looks like he pulled it off very well.

    He is an awesome actor.

  • i just pre-ordered it from the Royal Shakespeare Company's website. they deliver to the States serenity. i can't effing wait to see it.

  • Thanks for the tip! This will be a Region 2 Video for US/Canadian viewing - I think we're NTSC not PAL.

  • I need to see this anyone know were I can find it?

  • oh, david tennant. you will never cease to amaze me. he totally rocked in love's labour's lost, as well.

  • *bounces impatiently* I wanna see this! I wanna see this! It sucks that I live in the US. :(

  • well, they are gonna show it on Masterpiece Contemporary eventually sometime next year, so you will get to see it.

  • Whoo-hoo! Can't wait. :D Thanks.

  • This part is from the Act 1 scene 2

  • Ooooh. This looks awesome!

  • does anyone know what part of the play this part is from

  • @yanglo1900 :

    Act 1 , scene 2

  • Just realized this, but with David Tennant from Who, Patrick Stewart from Trek, and Davies from Star Wars, you have a terribly awesome scifi trifecta going on...

  • lol wat a combo it would be to hav them all

  • I love watching this preview. It's so good to see David Tennant do Shakespeare because i've only ever seen him in DW & HP.

  • I hope I get to see this at some point in the US!!

  • @AshVonGroovy

I heard that PBS will air it in the spring of 2010.

  • It looks good. Looking forward to it!

  • Omg, I want to see this so badly that I wish January would hurry up and come! XD

  • I really want the DVD but I live in Australia :( I LOVE DAVID TENNANT & HAMLET IS MY FAV SHAKESPEARE PLAY!!!! (it was even b4 David Tennant) (p.s. John Simm is going to b in a version of Hamlet nxt yr)

  • I wonder if Hamlet will be in America or if an America could buy it from England?

  • I need to read this again...

  • I'm writing a paper about Hamlet right now, and I keep watching this clip because I've declared it research material.

  • Ah, DT goodness to get me thru the day.

    Can't wait to see this!!

I'm normally quite bored by Shakespeare but something tells me this will keep me well entertained...I LOVE DAVID TENNANT!!! *SQUEE*

  • i saw this at Stratford upon Avon last year...it was brilliant! Very good cast, and Tennant was amazing of course

  • you lucky git !!!

    to see him live....wonderful !

  • So gorgeous!

  • David is such a phenomenal actor. I hope that some how some way I will be able to buy or see it here in the states.

  • of course you will. On Masterpiece Contemporary, next year. And you can pre order the DVD from the bbc or amazon uk; they ship to the US.. comes out Jan 4th I think.

  • And I just can't wait! This little clip gives me goosebumps every time I watch...and I can well believe the critic who called his Hamlet the best since Olivier!

  • true keep in mind to check the region of the dvd, because most uk dvds won't play on us systems. just a heads up!

Maybe s omeone can post it on youtube? ;-)

  • If you have a laptop, you can play the DVD even if it is the wrong region. The only thing to consider there is that most laptops will only let you change the region code up to 3 times, so you need to be careful you don't lock it into a region that you can't watch much on afterwards.

  • I understand that you can change some dvd players to be region free. Meaning that you can get dvd's from anywhere and play them. David is brillant

  • It's Captain Picard and the Doctor on the holodeck!

    Totally made of awesome.

  • W00T. \(^^)/

  • :-D "...has anyone tried pressing that little red button?"

  • Woohoo!

    Oh wait.

I'm Australian, so I'll get neither doctor who nor hamlet for Christmas! :|

Enjoy though, looks like it'll be well good.

  • I'm glad david tennants getting the rate of an actor he deserves, ever since even harry potter I've been expecting this guy to dominate acting roles which he now has been doing since dr who and all the other numerous roles he is now playing

  • Something I'm gonna watch? Hell yeah!

I'm a great Shakespeare fan, and a huge David Tennant fan... And Hamlet is one of my favourites :D Can't wait :D

  • is this on this christmas?

  • Doctor Who and Captain Picard in one movie!!!! AWESOME!!!!!

David looks really nerdy here, but he's really good!

  • Doctor Who, Captain Picard AND King Theoden from Lord of the Rings in the same movie....yeah, uhm awesome.

  • Read my mind

  • every time I see this I just want to scream, "Jude Law, eat your heart out!" Am I the only one who thinks Law was an ass for having said that David was wingding over the skull used for Yorick up staging him?

  • favorite play, great actor...can it get any better??? :D

  • i hav no idea wat he jst said but it was great *heart flows above my head* mmmmmmmmmm well tht aside il jst shorten than to wat i was think

    yummmmmmmmmmy XD

  • *falls off chair in delighted shock* ohhh David!!!! yummy yum yum!

  • My favorite play with my favorite actor. Can't get any better than that!
