I like this video a lot. I am wanting to buy a kayak and I like to see different things that can go wrong and things to look for. This is an excellent video. A lot of YouTubers would have edited out the second roll. Thanks for posting.
props! i think everyone whos posting about proper outfitting needs to worry about their technique a little bit more than their boats... we all know what proper flotation is, its the wizard not the wand and this was a great demo of technique. thanks for the upload
Great vid, you got skills I hope to have someday. How old is this vid? What impressed me is you have over 40k views with some comments. Great demo of the importance of floatation. Well done.
As someone who is considering buying a kayak (for use in our myriad waterways here in Nevada - ha), I find all these videos fun to watch (and even more fun to read the dumb comments from some).
Oh lighten up, it looked like the guy was just tooling around in the 'yak, not going out for a 'real' paddle...no need for a skirt...a PFD???? well, you should ALWAYS wears one....
does a fully flooded polyethylene kayak sink completely,or does it half float beneath surface?...i mean does the plastic alone have any buoyancy property what so ever if everything goes wrong?
no u can try to fill up ur kayak fully but you will always have a little bit of air thats impossible to get out which makes it fun to get into and arse around with it :)
Who said anything about "fault." I actually had a lot of fun. The point (if there is a point) is: (1) it is possible to roll a waterlogged kayak, (2) a kayak without flotation will sink. Those who paddle kayaks without flotation, pease take note.
i find it loads easier rolling without a PFD cause i feel they just get in the way i learnt to rool in a pool without one and then i tried rolling with one and it felt really awkward as it really ristricts your movement i find but its just my opinion :)
It was a borrowed boat, and I wasn't expecting to be in a boat that day. That's why I didn't have a skirt for it -- or a pfd even. But you are right, the boat needs bow and stern flotation bags to be safe.

@MrPlumblord The Americans call it a 'Spray Skirt'

I find it easier to roll a boat thats full of water. Staying upright is the hard part.

It will stay a little bit below the surface, but it won't pull you under.

@pleutman id say the traped air would work much like the one in my fiberglass and hold the nose afloat.

i think you may have a small leak in your boat
stephenmcdougall2007 3 years ago 5
Err... the video says "without a skirt"
That means there was nothing stopping the water from flowing in while he was upside down.
I do hope you were high, drunk, or trolling.

It's called a joke.

LOL I tryed that in a pool and I pulled myself right out of the boat. I think I will stick to a skirt and PFD. it makes it much easier.
oxman0313 3 years ago
might be easy if you have really tight hip and thigh braces in your boat
