Btw I'm looking into getting a Caro Kann book called "Play the Caro-Kann" by Jovanka Houska have you read it and if so what would you rate this book 1-10.
Caro has been good to me .I've been trying to really dig into learning chess and for the longest I did not want to play with black I guess I was afraid to play with black because it felt awkward. But since I've been using Caro Kann I've been doing good against White even to the point of winning the end game when it looked as if I was going to loose.Then.......Boom I gotta it ..Check Mate........I'm still learning how to play chess thanks for posting this vid on the Caro.
The Sicilian was the defensive move that I always played as black but now, I'm starting to look into the Caro-Kann becaust what I find is that in the Sicilian, pushing my pawn to c5 early would lead to its exchange faster, before I get to develop a few more pieces.
5. ..., a6? is i think a mistake isnt' it? it allows white (though he didn't in this game) to take advantage of a kingside development and gives him back the initiative he lost with his fourth move, wouldn't it be more prudent for white to have developed kingside with Nf3? as it is White may as well have not developed the knight as it is no more active posted on C3 than its home square, it also removes the oppertunity of the standard c3 in the caro kahn when the pressure mounts on the d pawn.
Nice vid. at 00:56 I think instead of playing a6, you should try to play the thematic moves of the caro kann eg: Nbd7 followed by c5, Qc7, Nge2. But that's only my opinion
why didn't white take the knight on e2?!! that fork the king and rook forcing the king to take back and ruining your chance to castle!! LOL OMG YOUR OPPONENT WAS DUMB! So i have to ask, what is your rating here?
Sounds like a good idea. Maybe I'll pick it up. I don't have a good game as white at all. I win maybe 70% of my games as black, and about 40% as white. Does the white english play like the black sicilian at all?
No - it's a lot more of a slower, stable game, which I think you'll like because you're playing caro-kann. It generally involves a fianchettoed queen-bishop, a queenside pawn storm and a knight safely posted on d5.
the english takes lots of practice you will lose even more i think if you do it you would really have to study alot of it to win or play a good game i think. my opening will be a d4 like queens gambit i just started playing it and i won a few games
when playing english you still ahve to worry about d4responses like kings indian, slav, queens gambit accepted and declined and perhaps more. its at least as much theori as 1.e4:) yes you get rid of sicilian but have to struggle with hedgehog and other horrible things
At the very least it's less EXPECTED than e4, so one could assume there would be less preparation for c4. The hedgehog should be just one line in your english repertoire.
Also, this largely depends on what level you've reached in chess. I'm at a relatively amateur level so I can take advantage of the lack of preparation most people have made for this opening.
check out the danish e4 e5 2 d4 exd4 c3, accepted follows as dxc3 3 bc4 cxb2 4 bxb2 with powerful bishops and a Q ready to move to any part of the board
also check out the smithmorra gambit if white tries to play the sicilian. its something like e4 c5 2. d4 exd4 3. c3 (if accepted dxc3 4. nxc3 and the main idea for white is to play e5 as soon as possible, and if black doesnt know the lines, it is usually possibly to play e5 quickly, even if it looks like you lose a pawn. it's got alot of traps
In the beginning white ruined his position with Nc3

if you're still looking for a a white opening, maybe look at king's gambit? i find it fun

this looks like a 1 minute game - the bishop moves for example seem to be waiting for the oponents time to run out.

because he's already down material and if he traded down even more, I'd have a better advantage. I suppose you know less about chess than you think.

I didn't see it by then :(

White plays quite poorly here. a3, to my knowledge, has never been played in serious chess, and Na4 is also a very poor move.

Start the english, C4 with white :) its a fantastic opening

Take the English opening and d4 pawn opening because I don't usually play that. If it's ok to you. thanks

play the english on white.
you don't need to bother with the millions of black responses to e4 and d4

Make that a fianchettoed king-bishop.

I think he made all those bishop moves because he knew he was in a losing position and maybe thought he could win it on time?

I have never won a game against this opening as White - and so I no longer play e4. I play English systems with g3 now.

i have a question, what is the caro kann? :)
trixapete 3 years ago
the caro kann is the black defense to 1. e4 when black responds with 1. ... c6

i've played the smith morra a bit before. in fact, i have a video up showing off a win i got with that opening.

This reminds me of french defence

yes, it's very similar. i like the caro kann better because i can get my light-squared bishop out before i play e6.
