I perfer the Funimation Voice actors for each character, but for Sanji, I believe that David Moo's voice(4Kids) fits his personality over Eric Vale's Voice(Funimation). Sounds more manly, cool, calm, and serious as his character is portrayed. Whereas Eric Vale's voice makes him sound like a 18 year old teen, plus hes smoking which should affect the deepness of his voice. I stand by my opinion.

I've been meaning to find out which version i used to watch when i was younger, but now, mainly based from Sanji and Zoro's voices, that i was watching the 4kids version. I never saw Robin, Chopper or Ace for 4kids, so i actually don't like them (Robin the cowgirl?) but the other voices just aren't the one piece characters i lovd
it'd be easier to read the manga, think of good voices, and wait til it's possible to hook your mind up to a machine and post your voice attempts on youtube

You are always concern about the voices, to the dubs haters; Funimation only dubbed one piece to help it be more understandable any one who thinks it sucks then I feel sorry for you. Besides if your a real anime fan you watch it for the plot not how the characters sounds, expect of 4kids that dub is actually horrible.
I'm quite proud to admit that I am Japanese and I love the english version more then *FUNIMATION PLZ KTHNX* our version. I wish that they showed some english versions of anime here, instead of me having to find it online.. Though.. some anime's should stay in japanese..

I know everyone is most likely going to hate me for this but I want to state this first I watched 4kids first and I was so pumped about the funimation one and it seriously let me down. I found that yes 4kids luffy was a bit annoying at times but in an odd way it kind of suited the character. Both Nami's and Robin's were good and so was Usopp. My problem comes from Zoro and Sanji. I just feel the 4kids ones suited what I had in my head better. That and I was let down by Shank's voice.

It's obvious that funimation was done by people who took time to get to know and love and understand the characters before choosing their voices and deciding what the lines would be. 4kids just took them and turned them into the biggest cliche in the world, which is just about the opposite of what One Piece should be.

@MultiFortunatus Well, actually, 4kids Robin is voiced by the actress who did the voice of Ash Ketchum in Pokemon, (which is the 1st voice at 4:25), The third voice is the Major from Ghost in the Shell (4:53). And of course, the second, Itoko from School Rumble (4:38).

@darienreaper Actually, to tell you the truth, the Viz clips are from different anime shows (Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto, etc.), I was actually suggesting one One Piece movie dubbed by Viz, While the rest stay dubbed by Funimation. But I think all of One Piece goes to Funimation, because I think Funimation (along with the Japanese dub) does it best (even better than Viz, and definetly better than 4kids). So, I will tell you this, if you like what you think is the best, I'm happy with that. :)

I think everyone is biased, since Funimation was the first One Piece version I watched, and all the 4kids voices sound weird to me. So since most people saw 4kids first, Funimation's just seems strange to them.

all dubs of one piece are terrible beyond words. 4kids slaughtered the show, and funimation tried to recover it but really didnt help much. now its earned a bad reputation and will never get the respect it deserves.
To be completly honest the funimation dub is better than the 4kids, all but the actor for Zoro. I love Chris Sabat and all, but every time I hear him as Zoro I kinda hate it. Only reason for this is because he plays the part like a more pissed off Piccolo. :(
@Boaconstricorayame83 Not particularly. I'll try to explain it better; I like almost every character that Chris Sabat voices, but his take on Roronoa Zoro seems a bit stale and lacking the energy and gusto that he usually puts into the characters he voices.
And I don't know if I'd say that Funimation deserves the dubbing rights to One Piece any more than another dubbing studio, but it's an overall improvement to the lousy way that 4kids spliced it together.

I know everyone is most likely going to hate me for this but I want to state this first I watched 4kids first and I was so pumped about the funimation one and it seriously let me down. I found that yes 4kids luffy was a bit annoying at times but in an odd way it kind of suited the character. Both Nami's and Robin's were good and so was Usopp. My problem comes from Zoro and Sanji. I just feel the 4kids ones suited what I had in my head better. That and I was let down by Shank's voice.

@MySpitfire19 While I'll admit that at lot of times people do cling to the version they hear first, I think you'd understand our disgust if you'd heard Sanji in a somewhat dignified voice before hearing that 'comic relief' voice. To everyone who knew Sanji before hearing 4kids, he was a dignified, strong character (aside from when he's wooing his chicks) to be taken just as seriously as the others. 4kids turned him into a joke, and nothing more.

@LepidotteroXWabisuke I think it is because when we first see Robin she is wearing a cowgirl outfit, and considering 4kids really didn't put that much thought into their work they probably only looked at a few pictures of the character's first appearances when decided their voice actors.

@xynth101088 You're probably right... that's pretty sad though, that they'd take all their information from the character's appearance... God, 4kids disgusts me. It's obvious that funimation was done by people who took time to get to know and love and understand the characters before choosing their voices and deciding what the lines would be. 4kids just took them and turned them into the biggest cliche in the world, which is just about the opposite of what One Piece should be.

@MultiFortunatus Well, actually, 4kids Robin is voiced by the actress who did the voice of Ash Ketchum in Pokemon, (which is the 1st voice at 4:25), The third voice is the Major from Ghost in the Shell (4:53). And of course, the second, Itoko from School Rumble (4:38).

Luffy is Colleen Clinkenbeard
and
Sanji is Eric Vale.

I knew it the damn voice of Sanji from "4kids" was different from Viz Media....The reason I say that is because I remember watching "One piece" when I was younger I remember him having that weird accent and now that I'm watching the Viz Media version its better it actually matches his personality better

I love Funi's dub. They use almost everyone from DBZ but I love them all! @darienreaper Actually, to tell you the truth, the Viz clips are from different anime shows (Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto, etc.), I was actually suggesting one One Piece movie dubbed by Viz, While the rest stay dubbed by Funimation. But I think all of One Piece goes to Funimation, because I think Funimation (along with the Japanese dub) does it best (even better than Viz, and definetly better than 4kids). So, I will tell you this, if you like what you think is the best, I'm happy with that. :)

Any voice is great besides that dumb old western accent in the 4kids dub.
Same for Sanji, I mean in the 4kids dub, it stayed in the same range (especially when he yelled) like it's in monotone. Plus, that Brooklyn-ish accent is so bad, it threw Sanji's character out of hand.
So, any voice besides 4kids suits Sanji, too.
And I understand your opinion for the One Piece dubs and I respect that. :)

I think everyone is biased, since Funimation was the first One Piece version I watched, and all the 4kids voices sound weird to me. So since most people saw 4kids first, Funimation's just seems strange to them.
Except Luffy, he sounded almost the exact same in all the versions. Oh and Sanji's voice for 4kids, that was just fucking retarded.

4kids luffy sound's younger his Funimation sound's older me i like 4kid's more. usopp's Funimation voice sound's the same but without the sonic in it i like both. nami sound's more relaxed in the Funimation dub but the 4kid's virsion sound's more tough and badass i like both. zolo's Funimation voice sound's like he depressed and i call him zolo not zoro.robin sound's more sexy in the Funimation dub chopper sound's like omochao in the Funimation dub. To be completly honest the funimation dub is better than the 4kids, all but the actor for Zoro. I love Chris Sabat and all, but every time I hear him as Zoro I kinda hate it. Only reason for this is because he plays the part like a more pissed off Piccolo. :(

@Boaconstricorayame83 Not particularly. I'll try to explain it better; I like almost every character that Chris Sabat voices, but his take on Roronoa Zoro seems a bit stale and lacking the energy and gusto that he usually puts into the characters he voices.
And I don't know if I'd say that Funimation deserves the dubbing rights to One Piece any more than another dubbing studio, but it's an overall improvement to the lousy way that 4kids spliced it together.
