  • What is the delay set to?

  • turn your flanger off

  • Actually, this solo isn't made by a toggle switch. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but check the live show of "Wake Up" in the 1999, and he just pulls the strings. You can't use a killswitch in a Telecaster, as he did it live.

  • the solo involves a whammy pedal (i dont know how many octaves its set to) , flanger and a killswitch/toggle and that is all it doesnt have wah in it

  • the solo involves a whammy pedal, flanger and a killswitch/toggle and that is all it doesnt have wah in it

  • This solo also contains flanger, at least the original version did

  • He uses a talkbox by the way

  • what the fuccckkkkk....

  • pretty good, but the studio version is easy, try to play the live version

  • Solo..!! Fucken awesome..

  • Amazing solo...

  • Nice Solo! U Are very good at guitar. It's pretty hard to do that solo 5/5

  • amazing

  • you rock

  • dope

  • nice job its exactly how he does it live. he used a talkbox in the studio though

  • nice killswitch

  • looks like hes getting the sound of the solo through the guitar's small penis. he's giving it a handjob to get that sound

  • I LIKE KILL SWITCH BETTER

  • nice man how exactly did u do it

  • Nice

  • he doesnt use a killswitch, he just picks it... and take it down an octave, other then that GREAT WORK

  • po, fico monstro! ja favoritei xP

  • 100% mano !

  • To create the Morello effect you need a guitar with 2 pick-ups. The bridge normal and the neck pickup on no volume then it will give the desired effect. Couple this with an octaver and you should get the effect. I don't remember him using the toggle switch on this song live though plus he doesn't use the wah in the verse. I am guessing he doesn't use the wah because he likes to walk around and the wah would prevent him from doing that.

  • its easy to do picking it after a mountin dew

  • Watch tommy boy, he picks every note and uses the wah to perfection.

Basically it's like he invented it.

and screw the people who say "give me tabs" there just annoying...

  • Damn good, but no one plays it like Tom.

  • nice job dude

  • not difficult but good job it looks like the real bravo

  • is that a les paul

  • KICK ASS DUDE!!!

  • give me the tabs

  • Good man congratulations

  • awesome job!

  • watchin tom live he doesnt toggle switch at all hes finger pickin all his notes

just been curious how to play it myself

  • now all ya need is the talk box

  • A chave da sua Les Paul é mexida ?

    Valeu! Abraço.

  • dont be jealous that he can actually do the toggle switching. yes it is a true guitar playing method and dont bag on morello either because your're just jealous that he came up with the briliant idea for it and that you can't do it. :D

  • lol... yeah people are like that... morello is a genius.. one of the best guitarplayers.

  • fuck you!

  • FUCK YOU, seventhstring, toggle switch picking is an awesome technique, and we can play guitar in any fucking way we damn well please.

  • seventhstring ur a giant fucktard

  • don't you dare make fun of toggle switching. it makes the guitar even more awesome. Tom Morello once said "I can make a guitar sound like a video game. But I can't make a video game sound like a guitar"

  • seventhstring84 i have a legit argument. toggle switching is real technique not only used by Tom Morello and is another way to play the guitar. Just like two hand tapping, and sweep picking, it is a technique. Now I'm gonna lower my "speaking level" fuck man, if i feel sorry for ur mom cuz to say what u said u must be some ugly dumb piece of shit.

someone back me up and thumbs up me.

  • hahaha:)

It´s always interesting, how people react when someone criticizes their favorite guitarists/bands etc.

I think Tom Morello is a great guitar player with countless innovations.

But when I see people thinking that playing guitar is to switch some toggle switches etc. (while not being able to play some "normal" tones/scales/patterns in a good way),I don´t know what they do on youtube. Especially,I don´t understand these high ratings for such unability...Now go on insulting me...

  • listen to the solo of now you enemy. 5 different modes of a harmonic minor scale at a great speed.

  • @kliao93 The only other guitarist that uses the toggle switching technique that i know of is Buckethead, but he does it in a completely different style than Tom.

  • nice!

  • awesome i do the same thing but with two d's one octave away from eachother sounds like the recording

  • yeah cool !!

Where did you get that guitar ? well no i mean, what's the name of it ????

  • its a les paul

    come on.

  • haha yeah really. how do you not know that?

  • that was kool

  • That was cool

  • hey i want to get a kill swich installed on my tele so i can play some rage stuff but i notice on toms soul power guitar he has a coutomized killswich and its in the shape of a toggleswich not a red button do you know how he got this i find the toggle swich easyer than the red momentary swich.message me back.

  • the toggle switch is a regular toggle switch, by making 1 pickup to zero and another to anything other than zero, it acts as it's own killswitch.

  • yea, but my toggle makes more noise then then guitar, even if i have my amp up pretty loud :(

  • i it hums it isnt grounded properly try that and insulate it

  • could you explain the grounded and insulate things?

  • im not sure with the soul power, but i think when morello but emgs in his arm the homeless, he just wired it for a toggle switch. not hard to do for a guitar tech. but yea no cluse how he did it on soul power guitar. IT WASNT A KILLSWITCH, he had both turned to 10 for your time has come.

  • he had 3 pick ups for the strat nd 2 of them had 1 separate volume nd the other pick up had the other volume

  • no! That switch has nothing to do with the pickups its a killswitch, wired to the volume pot and then output jack.

  • yeah if it has a red button..does it still have the same "kill speed" as a toggle switch ya know what i mean?

like could u do this song with the button or is i manditory that u need that killswitch

  • he doesnt use a talkbox. he uses the switch a lot and as much as it sounds like it, he doesnt use it on this. this solo is all plucking.

  • concerning the live version, you're right! =)

  • i thought it was the switch at first. i was hoping it was, i cant pluck for shit. my fingers are too fat.

  • dude ur like tom nd zack combined

  • @landonwk3 who cares as long as it still sound like it.

he can play it his own way

  • thats causes the stop-start effect

  • crappy sound quality on you recording but sounds perfect from where i'm sitting.

  • Awesome job, man. Love Rage, and Wake Up is probably my favorite Rage song.

  • Nice!

  • haha nice!

  • Nice video, keep on playin'!

  • very awesome with the harmonizer!!! 5 *****

  • nada mas??? mmmmm

  • hey man, do you have a harmonizer? if so, harmonize an octave above and play with wah

  • very nice bro

  • Nice video.

  • nice vid

  • Great !!! But I was wondering... What do you do with your right hand while you play the solo ? I never understood it...

  • he is using the pick up selector to flip between one pick up which has the volume turned way up and the other pick up which has the volume turned all the way down

  • He uses a talkbox ;)

  • That has been said by me on the description of the video since June 2006 ;)

  • (H) Oops, excuse my ignorance :)

  • tom morello dont need no pedal

  • yeah! he doesnt need! that's why he have an wah-wah, an whammy, a delay pedal, a flanger etc. on his shows

  • buy a tremolo pedal... XD

  • wich guitar is this?? i've got an epihpone les paul standart ebony and it don't sounds like you...awesome

  • BBB

  • Thats Awesome Mate!!!!!!

  • There is another way to do this solo, the live version, but that's awesome and still amazing.

  • nice job dude

  • Yer u pinned down those solos really well. Go make up some tunes and start a band ffs!

  • Sweet solo!

  • As a matter of fact Tom only used the Talkbox on the studio version: the way you play it is more or less how Tom played it live

  • heheh learn english dude

  • wtf the people posted on this video no nothing,

YES YOUR MENT TO USE THE KILL SWITCH

and YES This guy had to use a flange and a wah to replicate a talk box, get your lttle minds around it

anyway your awesome man keeep it up!

  • exactly how it sounds like....great job man

  • vry nice but ur an idiot it actually ses on all the album tht all the sounds were made on the guitars and drums and vocals the whole point in tom morrelos style of playing ws the wammy bar and thts another thing its not wahwah its wammy bar gods sake man REASERCH

  • No 'idiot', Tom Morello used a digitech WH1 whammy octave pedal (early 90's I think). You do some research before you go calling people names.

    Peace.

  • i think its from the 80s

  • ROFL.... you couldnt be more wrong could you... Tom Morello uses the killswitch in a good amount of his solos... and he even had videos of him doing it. Wah-wah and his whammy pedal are his best friends, you do some research.

  • ur a cunt

  • good job man! now that i got my les paul with a killswitch already in it, i can start to learn this solo finally

  • pretty cool, this solo is kinda weird.

  • cool

  • Elegante!

  • Oh man, you are playing very good. But please don't fuck tihs fuckin' pickup selector, maybe you better use the right effects, but it was a nice job, congratulations

  • Man sorry for this comment, now I understand why the pick-up selector is needed. Tom Morello is one of the best guitarist in the world and he is very impressive. I think I must learn about his guitar style and about the effects he did used. Sorry for my english, I'am hungarian

  • i dont think tom used a talk box,i hink he used a tremolo pedal and the wah

  • Yes tom used a talk box on the recording live what tom does is he does octaves and finger picks them and uses wah.

  • nice man... you got that down pact fo sho
