I don't know what happened with Ocean, they did so well in the Saiyan Saga, but it's as if they totally flopped after. It sounds like a director problem, but overall i think people are waaay too hard on Ocean.

@XxxSakura101 It was mainly a timescale problem. They literally had to dub around 10 episodes a week, considering the norm is 1-2 thats a lot, as they had very little time left on their licence to dub. This, if most people would bother to read other comments, post and what not, would give much more appreciation to the version of the dub.

FUNi fans are so brainwashed & don't realize that 'their voices' are just retooled imitations of these actors...Yes, this clip blows. Part of that was because of the rushed schedule & terrible voice directors involved.

Over the years, FUNi has vastly improved, but when it comes to overall talent and vocal delivery, Ocean still mops the floor with FUNi. Just watch the library of dubbed anime from each studio and witness the truth yourself.

@UnlimitedProdiction1 Ocean was on originally from the beginning of DBZ to when Goku killed the Ginyu Force on Namek. I forget which episode Ocean ends but Funimation continues immediately from then onwards on Toonami. It's funny cuz you can tell Chris Sabat was trying to imitate Brian Drummond's voice for a few episodes but then move into his own.

i like some of the actors from both dubs, some i wish they would switch around, like Napps Ocean Dub voice I liked it better, and the Ginyus ( some of them like Jeice) but I do like Gohan and Gokus ocean dub voice, but that doesnt mean i dont like the FUNI voices, I like Gokus funi better and im yied on Gohans voices, they both fit slightly.

I like the idea of comparing the dubs, but does it really matter which is better? I grew of with the Funimation dubs, so I'm partial to them and always will be, and I'm sure it'd be the same with someone who grew up with/knows the Ocean dub. Even if lines are changed, music is different or voices sound 'funny' we're all fans of one show, so why debate?

Um. Gohan sounds waaaay to young in the voice in the ocean dub at this point. This wouldn't have been a bad voice for kid or maybe even teen gohan. However, it sounds like he never hit puberty with the ocean dub voice at this point. So the voice really does not fit the character in looks and personality. So I, unbiasedly, on those facts alone fail the ocean dub voice.

@DBZOceanDubs As much as I prefer the Ocean dubs, (even prefering the music) I think your comment is unfair. I think the music is very important in creating atmosphere, and is very much a part of the dub. Voice acting isnt the only skill which goes into creating the fantastic job that I beleive Ocean does, and "Johnnk317" clearly thinks Funimation does.

You said it yourself, this is Dub comparison. That means everything. Otherwise you should have called it "Voice comparison".

@44ewq321 Nope, he is 4 at the start of the series. 1 year for the Saiyans to appear, 6 months for trip to Namek, year and a half waiting for Goku to return, 3 years training for the Androids, and 7 years after the Cell Games. 4 + 1 + 0.5 + 1.5 + 3 = 10. 10 + 7 = 17 (the year in the RoSaT isn't counted by the Daizenshuu). Care to check my math just in case?

I've always thought Kyle Herbert sucked as Gohan. Brad Swaile is far far superior. Elder Kaioushin sounds like crap in both of them. Kibito is better in FUNimation. For Gokuu, Kirby Morrow has the better voice but Sean Schemmel puts more emotion into it. The music is slightly betteri n Ocean.

Overall, Ocean wins just barely.
