It's incredible the things you find when you're trawling around Youtube. I've never seen this clip before and it's really done my brain in! Someone should gather all the Bonzo's recorded footage together and release it in a box set which I would take into a darkened room with a stash of Shiraz and put on constant replay until the universe ended or I needed a pee. Brilliant!!
Born & raised in Texas actually, and I make my living writing comedy. But I do apologize for calling you an idiot. If you don't like it, that's your business. Not every joke is for every person.
...& Neil is still doing delightful solo shows, incl. mini-tours in the States--I saw him just last wk., at The Magic Bag in Mich. ...where he mentioned Zappa's comment that Urban S.m. would b popular because of the drug ref ("I've got speed" --which Neil denied was any such).
oh , i love this and being a belgian I wish i was born 10 years before cause i was in bilzen , the 1977 year with costello , the clash, etc... but this is far better !!
no one starts fights here because they are so awesome and so funny that you can't argue for laughing. Long live the Bonzos. This is brilliant never seen this b4

I have been involved in two; I said "English humour" is a contradiction in terms, since the English are boring, pompous, conservative and miserable; the closest the English get to humour is socalled wit, sarcasm and, worst, eccentricity. They failed to see the humour in that.
Some did see the humour in the claim that the guy who has played Paul McCartney since his death also plays Viv Stanshall, but there also was a guy who took it seriously.
the English scene of humor is my favorite type its often off the wall but never overly moronic ...and that's the way i like it ..and much love for the bonzo's i'm glad i got to see whats left of them
Well, if you like English comedians, to each his own, I guess! But what about real England, outside of comedy shows? If you don't agree that the English, in general, are pompous, boring, unimaginative, cowardly and miserable, I would like to borrow your rose-tinted glasses someday.
@tjodolF2 well i dunno about you man i live in sunderland ... there's nothing pompous boring..maybe miserable but only the weather ... and i would love to lend you them but its not often i take them off ;)
it sounds like he says "fuzzy dice, bongos in the back", a quote from the Mothers of Invention song 'dog breath, in the year of the plague' from the album 'Uncle Meat' which was released four months before this performance. don't know if Neil was a fan or just trying to tell us that Bonzo did indeed have dog breath.
Most definitely a Zappa reference. The Bonzos were vaguely the British version of the Mothers - they were just great but too English for mass consumption in the States.
Strangely Viv was not a Zappa fan AT ALL. He disliked Zappa personally and professionally according to the site run by Viv's widow. I know Viv was great friends with Beefheart--and the Zappa/Beefheart relationship was often strained. Wonder if tht had a bearing on Viv's attitude. Clearly Neil was a fan, tho.
It's a fantastic performance and I've got it on my Sky+ box - it's a pity that they missed the beginning of Big Shot, though

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Bonzos. Did you know that Legs Larry Smith guests on the Elton John album "Honky Chateau?" Not as a drummer--he tap dances.

I'd forgotten how great they were on stage. Could Vivien really play the sax? I don't think so!
Sadly missed.
Bluesboy1602 4 years ago
Hi Bluesboy,
You're very right - Vic couldn't play anything very well (apart from an audience) let alone a sax! but thats why we love him!
Could LLS play the drums? Could Roger ever get his timing right?
But this is ART ... with a capital 'F'
