is old and is originally welsh, this version is in english but if u took the time to look u will find the original was written and sung in welsh u english prick
Ah, bless. Nothing remotely "old", "traditional" or "Welsh" about this song, and no-one who had the first clue could possibly mistake it for anything but the Hollywood schmaltz it is: Some say love it is a river, "if u took the time to look". Where on earth did "Old traditional song from Wales" come from?
@clayslaps. And where we pray did you get your education?? Was it is the Odeon theatre just around the corner. You Ignoramous, where is Gods name do you think that Hollywood gets is Music & songs?, It steals them from places like the Welsh Valleys. If you are not Welsh you have no reason to comment except to show your own ignorance. A Welsh Boy now in Canada.
No matter. You won't find a bunch of middle aged slightly overweight Englishmen making lovely music. Do they still have singing rooms in the pubs in Aberystwsyth, I wonder.
The song is "The Rose" it was written by Amanda McBloom for the movie of the same title. It was recorded first by Bette Midler in 1979, who played the title character Mary Rose Foster - loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin.
I'm an Englishman living in Swansea at the moment and I just have to say I love the Welsh language, not a lot of people know this but Welsh was once the indigenous language throughout the entire island of Britain not just Wales. It's just a shame no though that most people in Wales speak English, which ironically isn't even indigenous to England, let alone Wales.
Languages akin to Welsh (Celtic),before the Roman invasion, were indidigenous to Europe and were spread from Poland to Portugal and from Britain to Turkey. Apart from Wales (Cymry) which was a Saxon (Saesneg) word there is nohing left but names (ie Galicia).
When the Celtic Britons became Romanized (ie civilized) they were easily overcome by the Saxon barbarians as were the Gallic people of France when attacked by the Germans and Norse.
Continued:Only Welsh , Breton and some Irish and Scottish Gaelic remain today. There is Scottish Gaelic spoken by a few oldsters in Nova Scotia and Welsh apparently thrives in Patagonia (Argentine) of all places. .
Well, Brythonic was the original language of all of Britain... true though that English isn't really indigenous, and Welsh is just about the closest thing left to Brythonic, being trailed by Cornish and Breton... We cannot let the Welsh language die!
@Columbo794 anyone can become welsh btw ;)......the english and the welsh share similar origins of western atlantic basque region...............its just a few percentage of elitist saxons and normans who changed the cultures ;)
The Pyrenean singers said me that it was an old Welsh lullaby named "The Rose". But it's possible that this song was also well known in other countries with other name and same music. Recently I heard an old Asturian song accompaigned by bag pipes which is also known with different title in various french western regions.
@Raphael40 It's called The Rose, written in the late 1970s by Amanda McBroom and sung by Bette Midler in a film of that name. Look up amcbroom dot com slash rose dot html for the story of how it came to be written. Also "The Rose (song)" on Wikipedia. Not exactly a lullaby, if you look at the words, more a torch song maybe.

"The Rose" is a pop song written by Amanda McBroom and made famous by Bette Midler, who performed it in the 1979 movie, The Rose.

Cette chanson apparaît dans le film "The Rose" chantée par Bette Midler. Je ne crois pas qu'elle était connue au Pays de Galles avant ce film.
Ce qui n'enlève rien à la qualité de la prestation de ce choeur béarnais !

The song is "Ik hear dei". It's a Frisian song sung by two girls from Friesland. And that is in the north of the Netherlands.
For what reason someone adds this music to these pictures and say Wales for the Welsh is a big question for me !!!
