What I find unbelievable is that she got an Oscar for such a role while in the past other great performances didn't with better ones (Nicholson in The Shining and Batman, Duvall in Apocalypse Now, Close in Dangerous Liaisons and Fatal Attraction, Douglas in Paths of glory, Pacino in The Godfather, Fiennes in Schindler's List...) Great actors like Glenn Ford, Rita Hayworth, Christopher Lee, Jerry Lewis, Vera Miles, Marilyn Monroe, Kim Novak, Marueen O´Hara... they never were even nominated!

I loved the fact that in this particular year, the Best Supporting Actress Award was actually a surprise. I mean, I was happy for Kate Winslet winning all of those awards but her winning nearly everything for "The Reader" was getting to be overkill and I somehow wished that something would happen for somebody else to win. I still knew she would win Best Actress for "The Reader" when she got bumped up, but not knowing who was going to win this particular this year was a beath of fresh air.

Penelope appears to be a nice and decent human being. She always seem geniue with a lovely personality. With that said, I don't understand the "hoopla" surrounding this woman as an actress. She is not that great of a actress and I can't really understand a word she say half of the time. I guess the films she has made in Spain are great. I just don't see the big deal on her as an actress or this "screen siren."
