  • This swings. I prefer this tempo to other Clapton versions further on up the road in his career.

  • One of my very Favorites My Eric Clapton..

  • touched by God. sometimes I think God puts his hands in people's situation more than the people themselves. this was a point where Clapton and the Band knew, this was going on the books and they both knew they were the best at something and they knew exactly what to do. this is the sound of a practiced band that never practiced.....there were even technical difficulties with straps and not one beat was missed.....WOW

  • The Best of the Last Waltz is what this this rockin' blues is. "Smoke dem geetars bros!" One of the best all-time live soloing ever. Every guitarist should stop at this "shrine of the blues" to hear the truth. Please check out our tribute to this blues style on youtube---johnnyguitar335

  • Fantastic! Love the sound.

  • Great guitarists....great music. Can't ask for much more.

  • holly crap, this is probably what Eric sounded like throughout the freakin 80s without all the damn chorus pedals and flanger crap!

  • God Bless Leo Fender and the Strat. 'Nuff said.

  • i love how your TV changed when Robbie enters

  • CHECK OUT MY COVER OF THIS SONG ITS NOT VERY GOOD BUT WHO CARES !!!!!! X X X ;-]

  • MY HERO ERIC....

  • wow, so much great music on youtube, i cant go back to listening to the radio.

  • Well, wether or not you like Eric more than Robbie, or Robbie more than Eric... The fact still stands that Eric has established himself as one of the True Guitar Heroes and well.... Chases are very likely that no one commenting here IS... An opinion pertaining to who is better or not is just plain silly... Enjoy the music! It was fueled by things that American society "frowns" upon most of the time. :D

  • I am not a guitarist, but from my musical point of view I liked more Robbie´s performance!

  • 0:48 - 1:15 - Robbie delivers. Eric should have let Robbie go on with the solo until the first verse.

  • Robbie "owns" Clapton in this fucking awesome vid. R.R.'s got some "wicked" guitar skills. (No offense Clapton fans, so don't deluge me with hate responses). Just one person' s opinion. peace.

  • @glenneveaux Robbie is a gracious guitar player. He should have taken more leads but Eric wouldn't allow it. That's okay because you can see by the audiences applause how much they appreciated Robbie's effort. Not taking anything away from Eric, but there are so many guitarists out there that can play circles around him these days. Just my opinion.

  • @freddiemesquit1

dude, Clapton is 66, no shit others can outplay him these days, what a ridiculous comparison to make. Can a 66 year old athlete compete with a college athlete?

  • @jurzeetoad ya after a while ( 60+ years) the faculties start to wear down.

  • ...please can someone tab or film a lesson for these solos...!?!

  • look at 0:45!

  • @flahwah Well-spotted, mate - I missed that one...

For those who missed it - 0:45 - Clapton's guitar strap came-free, the great-man almost broke his toe. Just prior to this you can see how the strap is 'secured' upside down.. This happens on a blue moon. Professionals usually make it out to be a part of the show. Non-pros usually have to stop playing to pull their pants up again from around their ankles.

  • @K3KCT Thank goodness for us! Not that I don't like Eric, but Robbie really nails this one.

  • Big Chief is on duty!

  • Fortunately for rock history, Claption's guitar strap button comes off at 0.46 and Robbie Robertson is able to fill in with a solo without missing a note. That then inspires EC to really cut loose. One of the legendary performances by all....

  • This is my all time favorite version of this song! Absolutely masterful!!!!

  • This is ultra. And Clapton is a guitar god. The Banc is huge, too..

  • I like Clapton's beard......<3

  • ... fabulous !!

  • ... fabulous !!

  • Who is the other guitar player?

  • @MrCraigDNelson Robbie Robertson

  • if u didnt get enough robbie u werent listening...hez the shit for sure.....

  • I think, that Robbie has better tune and Clapton better gigs :)

both of them are great like 2 asian girls

  • Robbie just has something in his playing . . . hard to describe. Says more with less notes I guess. Don't know.

  • @freddiemesquit1 I think the word you're looking for is 'feel'

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete That's certainly a part of it! I would have liked to hear more from him and less from Eric. Not that Eric isn't a great guitarist, it's just that we don't get to hear from Robbie enough.

  • Robbie's fucking "dialed-in," "in spades!" Fucking A;)

  • at his best!!

  • Comment removed

  • perfeito esse segundo solo. PUTA QUEO PARIL .

  • is it just me or is this about the best ive seen of clapton, and robbie sure keeps up, i love his pinchy style. The best dvd of all time, and yet that concert was soo much better, The Band was really disappointed

  • Waltz :0)

  • why the fuck did they break up.

  • Hey Jame, A rockin video Buddy. Who plays the fender better.? Thanks for sharing this great shoot-out with us all! I hope we can share alot of music. Your pal...I'm Listening...The Captain....

  • anyone know where i can get tabs for robbies solo?

  • clapton rocks in this song, the last verse was the coolest moment

  • I think Robbie Robertson smokes Clapton here.

  • @Dylan3686 It is not an ego battle, man... it is THE BLUES!

  • @Dylan3686 think-up ur own shit, cunt fuck. don't steal others':)

  • @glenneveaux and i have

  • How can 2 people not like this...and vote it down....2 people who don't get out much, and they have trouble breathing, with their heads up their ass....

  • If yo want to know how good Robertson is check out the smile on both Eric's and Levon's face during Robbie's solo at about 2:30. Says it all.

  • Who's the kid?

  • I think RR is counting the bars when he took over soloing after EC's strap let go.

  • THIS SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD! ;-)

  • isso ai não é nada, vejam ele com jeff beck. é show

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, what else can you say???

  • Thank you Eric Clapton and lightyear93. Afreaknmazing

  • One of the coolest things about this performance is the look on Clapton's face at about 2:45 as he clearly takes great pleasure in watching and hearing Robbie's solo.

  • The rhythm section is so solid, it raises one up to the feet. Very, very relaxed and solid mastery by everyone in this video.

  • As much as it pains me to say... Seeing as Clapton is my own personal god!!! Robertson schools Eric in this song...

    (sorry Eric)

  • @Lilley313 sorry. you are wrong. clapton is god. robbie is good to but seemed to depend on double stops to keep up with claptons speed. honestly, clapton could have kept soloing for another 3 hours without letting up

  • The first two times I saw this I didn't even notice that his strap came off, the transition to Robertson's solo is so seamless, very well done.

  • clapton is good, however robbie is more interesting to watch. Kinda like the master chuck berry. Rock and roll is about attitude and both robbie and eric shine equally *)

  • Was song ever recorded in a studio cause I've been looking and I haven't been able to find it anywhere

  • @thecosmicstring --yes,the original version of this song was done in 1957 by bobby `blue` bland, charted no. 43 on billboard-----do a youtube google on him and you will have the song...ps,its called farther up the road

  • @lilj2345 Thanks :)

  • lovely version

  • oh my god ! it's crazy !

  • I'd like to know, just how can you have too much fun...and how do you know if you're having too much of it?........ :D

  • Robbie said in a moment during the filming of The Last Waltz (and, his comment was filmed also, of course) that "Here was this God of Rock n Roll and his guitar strap breaks". He saved his friend like anybody would and Clapton would have done it for him. I love the men of the 70's and all of the modern outlaw fame that they gave us. And, these cowboys knew how to do it.

  • fuckin incredible music-making

  • Robbie outplays clapton in this instance

  • @echoes555 nahh not at all imo. Claptons tone is way better and and his touch and feel is out of this world. Robbies not bad but hes no were near as good as clapton

  • haha nice, Clapton and The Band this is amazing

  • Levon Helm on drums...kewl. Ah...The Last Walz...that'd explain it then. Great stuff.

  • are you serious? hahaha!

  • Can anybody tell me where to find a tab for this whole song?

  • chals444, if you can't HEAR the notes, and know where they are on the fret-board, you still have some playing to do. Just sit there, and hammer it out until you can - or till you get as near as you are going to - this is the very nature or rock guitar, it's not a f******g piano-recital! We will ALL play it differently, every time, and that is what makes rock and blues individual and so special!

  • @chals444 you probably found the Further on..tab right? It's in the Crossroads 4 book collection.

  • Wow..

  • i love the strat sound

  • "Don't get me wrong! Clapton is good, very good at times; but Clapton is not GOD."

...The Last Waltz is one of the best of the best concert videos ever made. Rock on, Peace Love & BLUES

  • No, only God is God, but I've heard Eric, with Cream and then in the years after, play so that time ceases to exist. My favorite: him sitting in with Buddy Guy, New Orleans House in Berkeley, 1967. If only there were a video of that, but I'm certain there is not. Just in my aging head....

  • Right, there's only one God. But love when EC's "Ah!" when his guit strap lets go. Carry on Robbie then.

  • @slownoman yeah i can only wish that I saw that..

  • Only about 50 or 60 of us did. It was a small club that booked phenomenal acts- Santana started there, and Steve Miller when he was still a blues cat. Hard to believe it ever happened. Technology has its drawbacks, but what I'd have given to have a small digital video camera........ the stuff of dreams. It's okay. Life evens out, if you're lucky, and I have been. Best to you. tom

  • his strap fell off, string is fine : )

  • Robbie said in a moment during the filming of The Last Waltz (and, his comment was filmed also, of course) that "Here was this God of Rock n Roll and his guitar strap breaks". He saved his friend like anybody would and Clapton would have done it for him. I love the men of the 70's and all of the modern outlaw fame that they gave us. And, these cowboys knew how to do it.

  • Oh Ya - now I know why I've always loved Clapton! One of his best songs ever!

  • Eric must use bad strings, dunno how many videos I've seen where he snaps a string. :D But he is one AWSOME guitarist!

  • Did you see the reaction of robbie robertson when clapton left his belt ?

That is very more than professional. It's friendship lovely guys doing the same old job for the best.

  • clapton is god

  • It won't get better, frankly.

  • Eric Clapton, fantastic, and you add THE BAND the best blues rock band of their time (maybe all time) does it get any better?

  • @graylab2 the band isn't really blues rock, I mean they have a few bluesy songs, but they're the minority

  • as I get older, I see this and the Blues thing as making room for other human beings, making space. Everybody's happy!

  • it's called music,check it out !!!

  • nice teamwork when Robertson covers until Clapton can reset his strap. Impromptu and seamless.

  • clapton is hammered right now

  • dude, ya think?

  • Pobre pendejo ese robbie, jajaja, diosito clapton lo hizo pedasos, ni modo quien le manda a picarle la cresta. Pace and love friends. It's my opinion.

  • As Jimmy Page once said, "when it comes to single note (lead) playing no one is as good as Eric..he's just the best isn't he?"

  • when i play i always try my best always to use single notes becuase i used to play like that chuck berry licks with the blues and finally the guy i was playin guitar with said if you gonna play blues you gotta use more single notes. so from there on i have

  • I've always thought Robbie's solos destroyed Eric's in this performance.

  • Different styles, both good.

  • Robbie's are a bit frenetic. EC is a master of the slow buildup, but I agree he didn't create a lot of sparks that night.

  • I think that is true until the very end..It was like clapton said "Wait I have to set this right!" Then he blows everyone's mind!!

  • Yeah, maybe

  • i heard many versions of this song this is one of the better then his strap falls off and i like how robbie picks up on that.

  • Robbie Robertson "SMOKES!" EC!

  • i don't see this

  • both good performances but EC was much smoother and more intricate. That said there is a huge part of me that loves the RR shred! Either way, one of my favorites; just love this song.

  • If you dig this ,see "The Last Waltz" -concert , the final concert from The Band.

It's a milestone , and surely I mean from alpha to omega.

    Bernard

  • This is that, man. Just on bad VHS.

  • nice when the hi fi signal pop out ..the good old vcr´s ..... clapton amazing..this song is one of his trademarks from bobby blue band

  • Eric clapton is using A musicman amp.

  • Is he using a twin reverb?

  • My fav guitar solos of all TIME!! SO AMAZING xDxD

  • I agree. It is the best blues guitar performance ever...

  • It is great, check out the long live version of texas flood by SRV, it's pretty good too.

  • Who's the other strat player?

  • it's Robbie Robbertson mate :)

  • epic stuff ;)

  • Clapton is amazing here.

  • Clapton is so incredibly lit.

  • I prefer Robbie's solo

  • im bored on cam

    this video was good re

  • Man I love when the strap comes off Eric Clapton's guitar and robbie robertson takes the lead until clapton shows who's in charge :D

  • Its funny, The Band has a hard time keeping up Clapton.

  • Its even funnier how yer mom has a hard time keepin' up with the band

  • It's funny, how your mom has a hard time keepin up with the band

  • try playin' the last solo dudes..........with the samr feelin an' with the same ease....!

  • Been tryin' for two years and I haven't come close!

  • yeah, i just spent two hours tabbing it out :) it's not so much it's technnical difficulty so much as it's raw power and feeling.

  • Have you tabbed yet?

  • doesn't it take fucked up long time to tab so much solo?

  • it's not too bad, i mean it pretty much sticks to three positions of the g blues scale on the fretboard and if you tackle it 4 bars at a time it's not too bad, the trickiest things to tab are ones with complicated chord progressions, weird chords and without an obvious scale the whole time.

  • One of my favourite songs from the Last Waltz.Notice how the strap comes off Eric Claptons guitar.

  • how does Clapton get his strat to sound like that?

  • great song!

  • lol eric clapton shows robbie robertson up at the end

  • tank you very much for the response :-)

  • This from the film THE LAST WALTZ, directed by Martin Scoresese in 1976 about THE BAND'S goodbye performance at Winterland in San Francisco. It is available on DVD.

  • cool video. when was it?

  • wow

  • nice one, thx
