tessie is just a song from some failed early 1900s broadway musical that the royal rooters adopted as their theme music, kinda like what sweet caroline is today. the dropkicks reinvented the song and added an irish twist to it and at this point its pretty much the official theme music.
Tessie is the name of the parakeet from the Broadway musical "The Silver Slipper" (10/27/02-3/14/03) to which a woman sings as well as the name of the song.
It was the Royal Rooters (Boston's fan club from the late 1800s until 1918) cheer. They changed the lyrics and tormented Honus Wagner (et. al.) of the Pirates with it during the 1903 World Series (first of the modern era): "Honus, why do you hit so badly?"
Third Base (in the song) was the name of the bar Michael "Nuf Ced" McGreevy owned. Huntington refers to the Huntington Avenue Grounds, the home field of the Boston A.L. franchise (then known as the "Americans") on which that '03 World Series was played.
From 1903 to 1918 the Boston A.L. franchise won the World Series 5 times: '03, '12, '15, '16, '18. The Royal Rooters disbanded in 1918, Tessie disappeared, and the Sox no longer won the World Series. i love the sox and dkm ive been a sox fan since i was 3 now im 14 mi cousin grabed a ball from the foul line and beat the shit out of a guy that tryed to get it, and manny laughed i was embarresed. that same moment mi other cousin called and said "did u just catch a ball at fenway"

tessie is just a song from some failed early 1900s broadway musical that the royal rooters adopted as their theme music, kinda like what sweet caroline is today. the dropkicks reinvented the song and added an irish twist to it and at this point its pretty much the official theme music.

Tessie is the name of the parakeet from the Broadway musical "The Silver Slipper" (10/27/02-3/14/03) to which a woman sings as well as the name of the song.

It was the Royal Rooters (Boston's fan club from the late 1800s until 1918) cheer. They changed the lyrics and tormented Honus Wagner (et. al.) of the Pirates with it during the 1903 World Series (first of the modern era): "Honus, why do you hit so badly?"

Third Base (in the song) was the name of the bar Michael "Nuf Ced" McGreevy owned. Huntington refers to the Huntington Avenue Grounds, the home field of the Boston A.L. franchise (then known as the "Americans") on which that '03 World Series was played.

From 1903 to 1918 the Boston A.L. franchise won the World Series 5 times: '03, '12, '15, '16, '18. The Royal Rooters disbanded in 1918, Tessie disappeared, and the Sox no longer won the World Series. In 2004 the Dropkick Murphys, at the request of the Red Sox, rewrote and resurrected the song and the Red Sox won again. And now, it's time again...
