She appeared on Carson another time years later wearing a blue dress. I wish I could find it on Youtube because she was absolutley hilarious--as always!
I find myself watching this over an action movie on my new home theatre system. Bette Davis is my favorite actress of all time and one of my all time favorite interviews. I think Johnny did it best with her. They are both missed terribly. How great it is that she did all these interviews so late in life. She's obviously having a great time .
I would have loved to have met her. Out of all the celebrities i've ever seen interviewed, she gives by far the most entertaining, insightful answers I can remember a celebrity given. She's obviously very intelligent.
Oh God, she reminds me of my mom, funny & sharp as a whip!! That's my mom's hero! We both just love her! I agree with Owl Berlin's comment!! She had it alright, just a wonderful woman!! Thanks Brit, again for this!!! :)
tleatherland, I suggest you see some of her films, you can check on Turner Classics Movies (TCM) online to see whats playing, you will LOVE her!! Enjoy!!!
Give yourself a treat and watch her in All About Eve, Dark Victory, The Little Foxes, Jezebel, Now Voyager...and for absolute over the top campy brilliance check her out in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane.
Bette Davis is an example of what Charismatic people are like !!! No teacher and no University can teach this. You either have it or you don't. The minute she opens her mouth you don't want to turn your eyes away from the screen. You want to '' drink'' every word that comes out of her mouth !!! I personally never get enough of her. No matter how many interviews i 've seen of hers, i still want more !!!
Bette Davis is Bette Davis. What does it matter if she was drinking etc. It still is alot better than Britney spears's best performance ( if she ever had any ) or any of the NO talents that are around today. This woman gave so many yrs of excellence in Movies theater and guests on talk shows. She is a real legend.
Johnny was the best interviewer ever. He was blessed to have met the Real Stars of Hollywood. I would give anything for some one to post the show when Johnny had Judy Garland on his show from dec 1968.
What's wrong with having a few drinks? I'm well aware of Bette's condition. at this time. She wasnt an angel ya know. Just a regular GREAT lady. I know when someone's been drinking a little. So, thats my point.
I didn't mean to sound condescending - if my comment came across that way, my apologies. And you're right...she well may have had a couple of belts before the taping. She did enjoy her scotch! She was one of a kind - nope, they don't make them like Bette anymore.
Oh my God thank you so much for sharing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember this interview so well. This has to be the greatest Bette Davis interview ever captured on film. This is brilliance.
Love her or hate her, she is fascinating.

Why did Carson treat Joan like such shit after she got her own show? Jealousy is a motherfucker.

That boom mic bobbing in and out of frame is really annoying. You'd think they'd be ontop of their game for Bette Davis.

Bette was not drunk. She had had a stroke not long before. But she was still sharp and her great wit was still present. Love you, Bette.

It's well documented that she was indeed a heavy drinker, her own son said so.
