it's weird seeing races where they riders aren't wearing helmets. it's not like this is from 1970, you'd think they'd known about the hazards of not wearing an anti-egg crusher.
@virginaustralia1 You forget that there is statute limitations, for the 1999 TDF, it was something like 2years, so when EPO was found in 2004 or 2005, it was too late. Dic Pound as WADA chief wanted that UCI prosecute Armstrong, but UCI refused and produced Vrijman's report to exonerate Armstrong. That report was qualified by WADA as farcical. Just check WADA website, it's still there.
@virginaustralia1 huummm... if you believe that Lance said the truth in his books!
You should check velocity nation website and read Dr. Ashenden interview about the EPO found in Lance's samples.
A good reading too are the books of Walsh about Lance doping, or you can go on cycling forums, most of fans agree that Lance is big doper according all the known facts ( legal testimonies, actovegin, bruyneel, Carmichael,...)
@TranceSuperWave Do you have proof? or are you just repeating something you've read? I've read a lot of allegations, but Lance lived and trained in France where they have a very tough anti-doping regime. My understanding is that he never tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. Not once. If he was "doped to the eyeballs" they would have found something over the course of winning 7 Tours. He didn't test positive once.
@00bikeboy You have been duped : Lance left France for Spain when though antidoping regime was set up in France. Lance tested positive in 1999 for corticosteroid, after having announced that he has no TUE on that TDF, he discovered 2 days later that he had one from the begining of TDF... to clear his positive test !
Of course, in 1999 EPO test didn't exist, so samples were not tested for EPO. That explains why EPO was found by restro-testing in 6 +2 of his samples.
Sorry TV narrator, but Marco Pantani remains the BEST CLIMBER ever, seriously, just watch the Deux Alps Stage of the 1998 TDF... by this time, he was depressed from his accusations of doping, he had lost his flame...
Anyone who says he's a doper....well, no doper ends in a psychiatric hospital from clinical depression due to accusations!
@MrKatiusko = everyone at that level of cycling dopes, thinking that there are clean riders is like thinking that bodybuilders don't use steroids. "Pity that he didn't get caught?" What does that change, he beat the competition that was just as dirty as him. He's a great rider regardless.
This debate about Lance is as stupid as the one about Schumacher. They are the best at what they do, no one else is even close to them and you can't be the best by sitting on your ass all day. The numbers tell the story and 100 years from now, when Lance will still be the only one to win 7 tours in a row, people will only know him by that. @Bobarillio That doesn't mean they never doped... How can you be so sure about it? Armstrong's former teammates always claim he was a regular doper. When I say doper I mean they took illegal substances for increasing performance, of course.
The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember, everything What have I become My sweetest friend Everyone I know, goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
The "greatest" doped up performance ever. That from a 1-Day-Classic-Rider. This wasn´t only Epo, but at least 3 re-filled blood bags. What a cheater... Never seen something like this before and after in the dope full history of cycling.
The man who won this race, Javier Otxoa, was later hit in a car accident about a half a year after this race. His brother (riding with him) died, and Javier was in a coma for a month. The accident left him disabled, but he was successful in the paralympic games. Sad story for a man who had so much promise.
LA got cancer in his testicles from using dope since he was a teen triathlete and then to survive cancer, which is a lotto and use that survival to enrich himself on the back of others suffering from the same terrible disease is disgusting.
what a load of rubbish you are all spouting that he was doped up and on EPO, he was tested hundreds of times over his career and nothing was ever proved, the guy is a fucking hero not a cheat or a lier!!! VIVA LANCE!!!
@u368 Why don't you try to do these climbs? Ever tried to climb a mountain on a bike? Use whatever substances, EPO, steroids, testosterone- it's yours. Go ahead and climb this mountain (or any mountain) on a bike, then come back to me and tell me that drugs are more effective than any training, talent, or other legitimate means. Please. Until then: lay low, jealous little man :)))
"In 1994 Bruno Roussel, the directeur sportif of Festina, publicly called on Verbruggen to do something about the rising problem of EPO abuse. He suggested that, if nothing was done, it was a choice between letting his team use EPO or losing his sponsorship. "
You should look for the Donati's report too and some research studies on EPO and performance, you will learn that EPO can change an average pro-rider to an unbeatable rider
i like him to but you have listen to what others have said about him. it's hard to ignore and it would be ignorant not to listen to the opposite party. i want to believe he was truthful and clean person.
even if lance was a doper. and i'm not saying he was or was not.
Theres no point in denying that no matter how big of a cock armstrong might be; what he has managed to achieve over all his odds in his lifetime for both himself and the sport is insane.
@jaket12345 If you look at all facts, at the 6 EPO samples of Lance, at UCI corruption and his mutiple attempts to protect Lance in multiple case of doping, it's impossible to believe that Lance didn't dope, especially after his incredible transformation from a flatland racer to a climber !
@u368 that's what floyd landis claims... What has been proven of it?
That he turned into a climber has several reasons, he lost weight due to his cancer and secondly he uses lower gears than the rest, making condition more important in relation to strenght.
Lance improved his climbing time by around 30%. Lance never lost 20-30% of his weight, worse he recorded a bit higher weight at the medical control prior his 1999-2005 than in 1993-1996! You just has to look at many pictures to see that his body were not different. (Look at Dr Coyle's erroneous study)
He used lower gears because he got more oxygen with EPO blood doping. If it were the miracle, why no rider are using it today?
@LUNCH155 Might you get a brain to connect the dots together and see the reality?
Average GT rider who beacame unbeatable after cancer, whose samples were found to have EPO , with many doping stories, with legal testimonies pointing his doping,...
The truth is not difficult so see for people who don't have their head in sand
@u368 i'm no cycling expert, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't just an average rider. he won world champs at the age of 21, the youngest ever at the time i think. he was a bit of a prodigy since a teen and i'm pretty sure he was ranked first in the world the year that he got cancer. its pretty spectaclular and you can never know but you can't just say hes an "average" rider.
@skinnycant123 Lance was a good one day rider but a very average rider as GT contender as pro-rider.
He won WC on a tactical move, not because he was the strongest.
He is like Riis a rider who had no climbing abilities before using EPO. Before EPO all major GT contender showed their strength in their first GT. Lance showed he could win flat stages, nothing in common with the abilities to pass mountains with the best, he was even be beaten by Indurain by 6minutes on ITT !
@u368 yeah i always thought the he gained climbing ability from all the weight he lost, but recently i can't say i'm so sure. I read the Sports Illustated article on him as well as some other ones and it doesn't actually look that good for him. i honestly hope though that nothing gets proven against him, just because of all the good press around him and his legacy as a cancer survivior.
@skinnycant123 u368 doesnt care about anything armstrong has to do w/ cancer, cancer research, etc. He only cares about placing all of cycling's problems onto its current unpopular rider. u368 believes that only Armstrong is at fault in the doping epidemic in cycling. Once everyone realizes its a systemic problem throughout the entire professional ranks, the better off everyone will be. its funny how few ppl online are upset about this yr GC champ cheating, but are outraged at this old guy!
@LUNCH155 Dont mind u368. The only hobby he has is talking about Lance Armstrong. u368 thinks the rest of cycling was clean, and moral, until the big bad American-doped-evil Armstrong showed up. Im pretty sure he called Lance the Anti-christ once. All in all, just laugh at him and move on.
@u368 Oh that flatlnad racer to a climber. Well if you look at the facts you might noticed that chemo that he went through pretty much destroyed everything in his body except his lungs. which then let him transform his body into what he desired which was a tour de france rider and a amazing climber which over countless hours of trainging he succeeded. He only failed one test and it was from a sattle cream. So where are your facts. Beat down your achievments nto someone elses
@seth2186 You call me on facts like his weight when you believe that chemo changed Lance's body, against all scientific tests done on chemo protocols.
Lance was doped as hell on this stage. Whoever does not want to believe or accept it, must still believe that Santa Claus exists. The truth will be out some day, hopefully.
These were great rivalries, however Id also like to point out that these 2 announcers are the finest around in any sport. They have always made these races enjoyable and deserve credit. Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett
VAM of 1900 m/hr and power of 6,7 Watt/kg aren't physiological. Armstrong, in '93, '94 and 96' retired from TdF and in '95 had his best placement with a 36°. This before cancer and Prof. Ferrari. What happened in his blood to allow this change? Hinault had VAMs below 1500, and he has been the third champion in the world ever. Why so many people can't accept that such transformation of Armstrong in totally unnatural?
@ilciclogiornalista1 they do not want to , sadly . People love the fairy tail. As a rider myself i once described all the deaths of doped riders in the epo era to an armchair fan of the sport : he was not really interested at all , just commented that it would n`t stop him watching . I don`t think the public really care about their heroes , just as those sat in the collaseum enjoyed the violence and death . It `s sad that Lance appeals to the most deluded minds . he does not appeal to me .
@cherikandler I discussed a lot even with Pantani's supporter. Evidence of doping where clear, and during the trial they came out. HTC from 44% in Jan to 60,5% in june. Despite this, there is always somebdy ready to put his hand on fire about Marco. I call it transfer: a champion obtains what we all would like to obtain. When this becomes faith, also supernatural performance are accepted. And when faith starts, logic and reason dies... We are not envious: we simply hate who ruins sport with dope
@richs0511 And the most damaging indirect proof of Lance doping : his hematocrit recorded during his TDF !
How is it possible for someone having 42% as hct to be at 49% during TDF?
Hematocrit go down with physical activity, a normal value should have been 35or 37% after 7 days of race!
While racing in 2009 and 2010 under biopasspeort, including monitoring of blood, he never got those values that would habe been considered as doping under the new anti-doping rules !
@richs0511 You are wrong. Lance was not stripped of his 1999 title because UCI refused to prosecute it despite WADA recommendation. UCI alleged that testing was not done properly. It's fals, it was done at a higher standard than UCI testing because of research purposes.
Betzy Andreu was still interviewed a few months ago, and testimonied at Novitzky investigation about doping at US Postal.
Last point Lance was never the most tested riders before or after his come back. an other lie of Lance
Dope my arse. He 's just the greatest athlete I've ever seen. Read both his books - they're brilliant, I read the second whilst in a cancer centre library waiting for my wife to have a reflexology session.
Lance armstrong was just a naturaly born cyclist. NOT A DOPER. look at wayne gretsky- naturally born hockey player. Pele-naturally born soccer player Babe Ruth- naturally born baseball player. like honestly he was just the best there ever was
@kaelan15 Lance was not born to be a climber as his results from 1990 to 1995.
He became a climber when he put large amount of EPO inside his body with the help of thedoping doctor Ferrari who said that EPO was not more dangerous than orange juice.
I love how much people want to put down the efforts of Lance Armstrong. Truly shows how envious some people can be of a man that they wish they could be. Really people, just give respect where its due. Unless you have something to prove it otherwise, just keep your mouth shut.
I can't believe how naive you Lance fans are! He just dropped one of the biggest dopers in the sport...Pantani! I agree he has gifts, but all of the top pros have gifts! The blood dope to get the extra edge when competing against the top 10!
at the time of armstrong the tour de france was very great! it was kind of magic! right now you don't see a show like this again there is 2 good climbers andy shleck and alberto contador but it is slower than befor and less spectacular
Look to end all the comments. Its likely he doped before Cancer, everyone did OK. But after Cancer it is unclear. Until this investigation, and all the rumours end we wont find out. One day in the future we might find out if he did or didnt dope to win his tours. But right now, there is not enough evidence to say outright, "he doped to win 7". Maybe one day there will be enough evidence, but that day is not today ok
@cactaylor4 There is more reason to believe he doped before his cancer with massive use of steroid, HGH, under the watch of Carmichael and so, and after with blood doping with the help of Ferrari.
It would be a non sense that Lance would have been clean after improving by 30% his average climbing power!
@hghepo Yeah your right and I definitely understand what you are saying. I personally dont really know what to believe. In the early 90s just about 98% of the pro peloton doped, and if you didnt, then you would get dropped, lapped, etc. After Cancer I see what you mean in that he improved by ALOT! but we cannot have a definitive answer until the federal investigation is over or before someone comes out with substantial proof.
@rossflemington Even with his massive doping, Lance is clearly after Merckx, Hinault, Coppi, Anquetil !
In the pre-epo era, he would never have won a single GT because of his lack of recovering ability that was pointed by american physiologist for the 1996 Olympic Games.
@u368 you do realise armstrong actually had tumours during the 96 olympics? maybe, just maybe that explains his lack of recovering ability at that time...
@AnBandito I realise too that he was dropped on 1993-94 and 95 TDF on montain stages, and has to quit TDF after the first or second mountain stage in 1993 and 1994. In 1995 he was dropped by 1H30 at the final classification!
BTW, most of his team-mate, like Anderson, that no one had thought that Lance could win TDF.
@killerpikem , Lance Armstrong is my biggest sports idol. In the beginning I refused to think that it was possible that he could have used doping.. But you should do like I did and just admit the possibilities that Lance could have used doping during hes career, something I think he did. Even though I believe that now, he is still my idol. You should stop being so ignorant and maybe open your eyes..
i watch the tour de france and eurovision every year. they are both as corrupt as each other but do i REALLY care? as long as it is an exciting race i couldnt care less
If he is dirty I dont care, he has raised so much money for cancer research that others have not been able to do. Livestrong and find a cure anyway possible
@choprn Do you remember Lance's performance before working with Dr. Michele Ferrari ? Lance's Mountain Stages results ---- 1993 Tour de France 86 Armstrong +21'42 97 LA +28'47 then DNS ---- 1994 TDF 64. Armstrong à 7'03 55. LA à 20'09 then DNS ---- 1995 TDF 40. Armstrong +17'57 56. LA +18'44 117. LA +28'05 64. LA +32'54 Lance's ITT 1993 59km 27 LA +6'04 1994 64 km 13. LA + 6'23 1995 54 km 19. LA 5'09 It was difficult to see him as a futur TDF winner. Thanks Ferrari for his good doping
well, we all know he wasd doped (just like anyone else, so I don't really care, because he was the best) but the fact that he had cancer in this early years of his life, somehow tells me, he doped a lot already before his illness. we all know, that one of the effects of doping is the possibility of getting cancer. just look at fignon and others.
the main reason he improved that much is definately his weight loss, his new riding style and his bigger will to win the TDF ;)
@MrGrunz Lance didn't lost weight, he did say that in his SCA deposition, his weight was a bit more than 74kg for all his 93-2005 TDF!
He improved his output power on climbs by 30%. Do you think he lost 30% of weight or he used EPO which can provide a 30% boost combined with a good doping program prepared by Dr. Ferrari?
@MrGrunz He had testicular cancer. How do you get testicular cancer from doping? unless maybe you inject steroids into your nuts. but who in their right mind would do that?
it's weird seeing races where they riders aren't wearing helmets. it's not like this is from 1970, you'd think they'd known about the hazards of not wearing an anti-egg crusher.

The man who won this race, Javier Otxoa, was later hit in a car accident about a half a year after this race. His brother (riding with him) died, and Javier was in a coma for a month. The accident left him disabled, but he was successful in the paralympic games. Sad story for a man who had so much promise.

YiftertheShifter1 11 months ago
@YiftertheShifter1 Idiot. Athletes know what give them EPO !
"In 1994 Bruno Roussel, the directeur sportif of Festina, publicly called on Verbruggen to do something about the rising problem of EPO abuse. He suggested that, if nothing was done, it was a choice between letting his team use EPO or losing his sponsorship. "
You should look for the Donati's report too and some research studies on EPO and performance, you will learn that EPO can change an average pro-rider to an unbeatable rider

jaket12345 1 year ago
@jaket12345 If you look at all facts, at the 6 EPO samples of Lance, at UCI corruption and his mutiple attempts to protect Lance in multiple case of doping, it's impossible to believe that Lance didn't dope, especially after his incredible transformation from a flatland racer to a climber !
EPO was magic for him with Ferrari's help.
u368 1 year ago
@u368 that's what floyd landis claims... What has been proven of it?
That he turned into a climber has several reasons, he lost weight due to his cancer and secondly he uses lower gears than the rest, making condition more important in relation to strenght.
Rac1ng4Live 1 year ago
@Rac1ng4Live
Don't believe myths.

u368 1 year ago
@u368 i'm no cycling expert, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't just an average rider. he won world champs at the age of 21, the youngest ever at the time i think. he was a bit of a prodigy since a teen and i'm pretty sure he was ranked first in the world the year that he got cancer. its pretty spectaclular and you can never know but you can't just say hes an "average" rider.
skinnycant123 1 year ago
@skinnycant123 Lance was a good one day rider but a very average rider as GT contender as pro-rider.
He won WC on a tactical move, not because he was the strongest.
He is like Riis a rider who had no climbing abilities before using EPO. Before EPO all major GT contender showed their strength in their first GT. Lance showed he could win flat stages, nothing in common with the abilities to pass mountains with the best, he was even be beaten by Indurain by 6minutes on ITT !
u368 1 year ago
@u368 yeah i always thought the he gained climbing ability from all the weight he lost, but recently i can't say i'm so sure. I read the Sports Illustated article on him as well as some other ones and it doesn't actually look that good for him. i honestly hope though that nothing gets proven against him, just because of all the good press around him and his legacy as a cancer survivior.
skinnycant123 1 year ago
@skinnycant123 u368 doesnt care about anything armstrong has to do w/ cancer, cancer research, etc. He only cares about placing all of cycling's problems onto its current unpopular rider. u368 believes that only Armstrong is at fault in the doping epidemic in cycling. Once everyone realizes its a systemic problem throughout the entire professional ranks, the better off everyone will be. its funny how few ppl online are upset about this yr GC champ cheating, but are outraged at this old guy!

pdp110 1 year ago
@u368 Oh that flatlnad racer to a climber. Well if you look at the facts you might noticed that chemo that he went through pretty much destroyed everything in his body except his lungs. which then let him transform his body into what he desired which was a tour de france rider and a amazing climber which over countless hours of trainging he succeeded. He only failed one test and it was from a sattle cream. So where are your facts. Beat down your achievments nto someone elses

Why so many people can't accept that such transformation of Armstrong in totally unnatural?
ilciclogiornalista1 1 year ago
@ilciclogiornalista1 they do not want to , sadly . People love the fairy tail. As a rider myself i once described all the deaths of doped riders in the epo era to an armchair fan of the sport : he was not really interested at all , just commented that it would n`t stop him watching . I don`t think the public really care about their heroes , just as those sat in the collaseum enjoyed the violence and death . It `s sad that Lance appeals to the most deluded minds . he does not appeal to me .
cherikandler 1 year ago

He doped undoubtly
hghepo 1 year ago
@richs0511 You are wrong. Lance was not stripped of his 1999 title because UCI refused to prosecute it despite WADA recommendation. UCI alleged that testing was not done properly. It's fals, it was done at a higher standard than UCI testing because of research purposes.
Betzy Andreu was still interviewed a few months ago, and testimonied at Novitzky investigation about doping at US Postal.
Last point Lance was never the most tested riders before or after his come back. an other lie of Lance

@richs0511 Of his doping?
6 of his 1999 TDF samples have EPO inside. O'Reilly, Svart, Andreu, and now Landis have all testimonied of Lance doping!
He tested positive for coticosteroid in 1999, that was "cleared" by UCI to avoid an other scandal after Festina!

Maybe one day there will be enough evidence, but that day is not today ok
cactaylor4 1 year ago
@cactaylor4 There is more reason to believe he doped before his cancer with massive use of steroid, HGH, under the watch of Carmichael and so, and after with blood doping with the help of Ferrari.
It would be a non sense that Lance would have been clean after improving by 30% his average climbing power!
hghepo 1 year ago
@hghepo Yeah your right and I definitely understand what you are saying. I personally dont really know what to believe. In the early 90s just about 98% of the pro peloton doped, and if you didnt, then you would get dropped, lapped, etc. After Cancer I see what you mean in that he improved by ALOT! but we cannot have a definitive answer until the federal investigation is over or before someone comes out with substantial proof.

BTW, most of his team-mate, like Anderson, that no one had thought that Lance could win TDF.

well, we all know he wasd doped (just like anyone else, so I don't really care, because he was the best) but the fact that he had cancer in this early years of his life, somehow tells me, he doped a lot already before his illness. we all know, that one of the effects of doping is the possibility of getting cancer. just look at fignon and others.
the main reason he improved that much is definately his weight loss, his new riding style and his bigger will to win the TDF ;)
MrGrunz 1 year ago
@MrGrunz Lance didn't lost weight, he did say that in his SCA deposition, his weight was a bit more than 74kg for all his 93-2005 TDF!
He improved his output power on climbs by 30%. Do you think he lost 30% of weight or he used EPO which can provide a 30% boost combined with a good doping program prepared by Dr. Ferrari?
u368 1 year ago
@MrGrunz He had testicular cancer. How do you get testicular cancer from doping? unless maybe you inject steroids into your nuts. but who in their right mind would do that?
