if your iPod hangs on the screen , you have probably clicked the quit button on the spirit program , this causes it to hang , simply restore it and run spirit again and when it says it's done click the cross instead of the quit button :)

@LegionShade That happened to me. I pressed the "quit" button, not knowing what would happen. It has been hanging on the apple logo for over 30 min. How do I get it to stop so that I can restore? Itunes obviously doesn't recognize my phone and I can't do anything to it.

@danieladorchi dfu mode, then update to os 4.0. After you have the device working again put it back to dfu mode (itunes will say it recognized a device on restore mode) then you manually restore to os 3.1.3 (previously downloaded and saved on ur pc)
