The Republican solution to eliminate taxes is good but cut what taxes? There are only three things to tax in any economy: land, labor or capital. Completely eliminating taxes on labor and capital is an economically sound idea because that would eliminate every disincentive and skewed economic decision caused by such taxation. The only thing left is to tax the community created value of land and that is the only appropriate thing to tax. Taxing land value merely takes back what belongs to us all.

I work on environmental issues all the time and its the Republican Party who destroys the environment I love. I will not apologize for loving clean air, water, land. Obama has spent the last 3 weeks reversing MANY harmfull things Bush did to kiss big business and hurt the environment. The entire stimilus package is designed to make America the leader in clean energy and infrastructure.
Then why is Al Gore of all people driving in gas guzzling limos, often with the driver idling it for over 20 minutes for the A/C, flying in Private jets and owning energy wasting mansions? Do you support him? What if it was a Republican?

Ron Paul was right, maybe some of these Republicans should head in and apologize for making fun of him in the debates. While no one agrees 100% with anyone, Ron Paul was on the money on the economy and the massive government debt spending that even Republicans decided to get behind for some reason as long as Bush said it was ok. Who is the next "Reagan" who really thinks like Reagan besides Ron Paul? Republicans had better find him or bite the bullet and get behind Ron Paul.
What you need to understand that this is standard procedure in DC. Bills are huge, they aren't read or understood before the vote, many unrelated subjects are crammed into one huge bill and sometimes bureaucrats write the bills and pass them to Congress for a vote. This is happening now and has always happened this way and it needs to change.
When will Republicans get it? Tax cuts don't work and have never worked. What you end up with is a massive cut back on services---things that everyone of us expect our government to provide for us. Tax cuts are directed to the rich and are a payback for the rich who support Republican politicians in their quest for power. You know who they are---the guys who say they hope Pres. Obama will fail. I call them traitors to the US of A.
Except that tax cuts DO work, and that's why there are many in the stimulus bill, mostly targeted to poorer families. In addition, cutting taxes on businesses creates new wealth by giving them the resources to hire new workers. Government services simply redistribute wealth instead of creating new wealth- the foundation of a strong economy.
I know how to spend my money better than Washington. If you don't think so, let them tax you till there's nothing left. As for me, I call it theft.

(do a little research) The reason the cuts are in the bill is because President Obama (mistakenly) held out an olive branch to the obstructionist Republicans. He also allowed things to be removed from the bill in the interest of bipartisanship. Republican's voted against this bill because it is a bad bill- it has no guarantee of stimulating anything except growth of government and restrictions on civil liberties.
It is government pork at its very worst and morally comparable to the Patriot Act in both the fear-mongering tactics used to get it passed quickly and its potential (read "guarantee") to be abused by Washington.
Tax cuts sound logical, but history has proven that tax cuts don't work. The Repubs voted against this because it goes against their ideology no matter how wrong it has proven to be in the past. They are about slinging their weight around and doing whatever possible to be difficult because if they aren't in charge they prefer this nation to fail. I'm not entirely happy with the bill, but we wouldn't be in this mess if Bush and his cohorts hadn't been totally incompetent.
Actually, the Community Reinvestment Act (passed by Clinton) is mostly to blame. This act encouraged banks to make loans to high-risk borrowers in an attempt to allow poorer people to buy houses. It worked- but it caused increased real-estate demand, driving prices up.
Then when the high-risk borrowers can't pay, the houses foreclose, bloat the market and drive prices down. This destroys the value of the bank's assets, and they go bankrupt, causing the so-called "credit crunch" we see today.
Wrong it was caused by Deregulation from Republicans. An analysis of loan originations shows that only 6% of higher-priced loans - those typically extended to subprime borrowers - were made by lenders covered by the Community Reinvestment Act to borrowers in neighborhoods targeted by the act, Duke told community bankers gathered in Phoenix Monday. This very small share makes it hard to imagine how CRA could have caused, or even contributed in a meaningful way, to the current crisis,
Except that the rise in home prices, partly because of CRA, made developers build an abundance of real estate that couldn't all be sold at the prices they were asking for. The banks are to blame as well; they liked the higher home prices because it gave them more collateral to borrow off of.
It doesn't really matter, though, since now they can basically borrow money for free from the Federal Reserve, which causes inflation as more dollars enter the market out of nowhere.

The real reason for the crisis was the CDS derivatives and was in effect during Bush's watch. U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) introduced the Act on behalf of financial industry lobbyists in 1997 and unfortunately Clinton signed the bill in 2000.
CDS's may have caused problems in wall street but it didn't put people out of their homes.

Except that most roads are state owned, public schools are paid by local property taxes, and police are either state or locally funded. I have no problem with federal taxes being used for the military or bridges- that's what the government is supposed to do and allowed to do under the Constitution.
The government is not supposed to force me to live a certain way, which is what it would do if it controlled everything. They would burn the Constitution if they could get away with it.
Taxes are the price you pay for a civilized society....its sucks but it is reality...I suggest you start following how your taxes are used and wasted. It amazes me how people want to live in the great country of America and then not give a crap about her. Start following sites like the National Priorities Project to start learning about your taxes. You might be shocked.
I know that $550 billion of our collective taxes went overseas in 2008 as interest on our debt.

The Republican solution to eliminate taxes is good but cut what taxes? There are only three things to tax in any economy: land, labor or capital. Completely eliminating taxes on labor and capital is an economically sound idea because that would eliminate every disincentive and skewed economic decision caused by such taxation. The only thing left is to tax the community created value of land and that is the only appropriate thing to tax. Taxing land value merely takes back what belongs to us all.

The provision was put in by Jim Clyburn, as revenge against Republican Governor Mark Sanford when Sanford advocated that the states should be getting rid of wasteful spending instead of joining in this behemoth crap sandwich bill.
I point to 2 states, California, with it's pointless and wasteful spending, and extremely business prohibitive laws, and my own state Maryland, where Democrat Mike Miller was whining that we "only" raised our budget by .7 percent, instead of reducing it!

What you need to understand that this is standard procedure in DC. Bills are huge, they aren't read or understood before the vote, many unrelated subjects are crammed into one huge bill and sometimes bureaucrats write the bills and pass them to Congress for a vote. Except that tax cuts DO work, and that's why there are many in the stimulus bill, mostly targeted to poorer families. In addition, cutting taxes on businesses creates new wealth by giving them the resources to hire new workers. Government services simply redistribute wealth instead of creating new wealth- the foundation of a strong economy.
I know how to spend my money better than Washington. If you don't think so, let them tax you till there's nothing left. As for me, I call it theft.

(do a little research) The reason the cuts are in the bill is because President Obama (mistakenly) held out an olive branch to the obstructionist Republicans. He also allowed things to be removed from the bill in the interest of bipartisanship. Republican's voted against this bill because it is a bad bill- it has no guarantee of stimulating anything except growth of government and restrictions on civil liberties.
It is government pork at its very worst and morally comparable to the Patriot Act in both the fear-mongering tactics used to get it passed quickly and its potential (read "guarantee") to be abused by Washington.

Tax cuts sound logical, but history has proven that tax cuts don't work. The Repubs voted against this because it goes against their ideology no matter how wrong it has proven to be in the past. They are about slinging their weight around and doing whatever possible to be difficult because if they aren't in charge they prefer this nation to fail. I'm not entirely happy with the bill, but we wouldn't be in this mess if Bush and his cohorts hadn't been totally incompetent.

Actually, the Community Reinvestment Act (passed by Clinton) is mostly to blame. This act encouraged banks to make loans to high-risk borrowers in an attempt to allow poorer people to buy houses. It worked- but it caused increased real-estate demand, driving prices up.
Then when the high-risk borrowers can't pay, the houses foreclose, bloat the market and drive prices down. This destroys the value of the bank's assets, and they go bankrupt, causing the so-called "credit crunch" we see today.

Except that the rise in home prices, partly because of CRA, made developers build an abundance of real estate that couldn't all be sold at the prices they were asking for. The banks are to blame as well; they liked the higher home prices because it gave them more collateral to borrow off of.
It doesn't really matter, though, since now they can basically borrow money for free from the Federal Reserve, which causes inflation as more dollars enter the market out of nowhere.

Wrong again. Do you ever research anything or do you just spout Repub talking points? BTW, the CRA was enacted back in 1977, not under Clinton. The real reason for the crisis was the CDS derivatives and was in effect during Bush's watch. U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) introduced the Act on behalf of financial industry lobbyists in 1997 and unfortunately Clinton signed the bill in 2000.

CDS's may have caused problems in wall street but it didn't put people out of their homes.
I'm far from the neocons that run the Republican party- I voted for Ron Paul in the last election. I think George Bush was a lousy president, but anyone who calls him or his administration Republican doesn't know what a Republican is.
Also, I'm not blaming Clinton or the CRA for the financial crisis, but it is a fact that it contributed significantly to the recent real estate burst.

Except that most roads are state owned, public schools are paid by local property taxes, and police are either state or locally funded. I have no problem with federal taxes being used for the military or bridges- that's what the government is supposed to do and allowed to do under the Constitution.
The government is not supposed to force me to live a certain way, which is what it would do if it controlled everything. They would burn the Constitution if they could get away with it.

Taxes are the price you pay for a civilized society....its sucks but it is reality...I suggest you start following how your taxes are used and wasted. It amazes me how people want to live in the great country of America and then not give a crap about her. Start following sites like the National Priorities Project to start learning about your taxes. You might be shocked.

I know that $550 billion of our collective taxes went overseas in 2008 as interest on our debt.
I know that $700 billion was spent bailing out banks that made bad loans.
I know that $15 billion went to US car companies that couldn't earn it in sales.
This isn't the price of a civilized society- it's the price of living under a corrupt government. Whatever money the government didn't print out of thin air it took by force in the form of taxes. I think I can spend it better than them.

Lower Taxes are one of the many reasons this country was founded on.
Remeber what the Boston tea party was ?
Up until the 1900's this country ran great with only a handful of Taxes on the books once the taxes started up x up this country ran on a deficet 89% of the time.
Higher Taxes are the end of civilized society as we know it. Taxes are 1 of the main reasons Company's leave this country we have the 2nd or 3rd highest rate on business taxes in the world.
