I was sure my fan clutch was going/gone for the longest time, but the truck doesn't overheat so never thought much about it...I was pulling a horse trailer going south (and loaded w/ one horse going north) on US93 over Lost Trail, found out it works!
my dad says that our 1990 f150 5.0 liter engine doesn't have a clutch and that it is aways spinning as fast as the crankshaft. IS their a clutch on it that lets it slip when the engine is cold do you know? thanks for any feed back!
Originally yes it would have one, but i've seen some people when they go bad, theres a tab you bent out, and theres a screw you remove, and it locks in. So it's always locked no matter what.
I don't hear the fan clutch engaging on/off so much on my IDI Ford (maybe I need to make sure it works) .. but on my Dodge Cummins it's extremely noticeably. The general engine noise on the CTD almost doubles when the fan clutch engages. Now I want to verify that the Ford's fan clutch is working correctly. Thanks for the video!
0-100km/h (60 miles) witch took 39 seconds. Not 100% of the video is there. I cut out abit at the end. Real video is in the side bar of related videos.
That fan noise sounds very similar to a 460 gasser I have.
I've noticed that a properly maintained, traditional cooling system with an engine driven fan seems to work so much better than a properly maintained, electric fan/computer controlled cooling system. Weird.
My 2.8TD doesnt like it locked. The engine can barely reever abover 1500rpm on light foot. Had to get a new fanclutch.
