@pidgeblev Because it is very expensive to organize and it totally irrelevant. We will never get a modern country with this outdated embarassing nonsense!
@BRUTUALTRUTH I do see your point, i really do however i think the Monarchy is what makes us British in a lot of ways. Don't forget we were the world's first developed country and are very modern on numerous counts. Just as modern as any other yet we have such a great history i think it would be a great shame to lose sight of that. It will be a very sad day for this country when the Queen dies. Because that will cement alot of what your vision is for us. Until then, i wanna embrace what we have.
@pidgeblev Those are valid points. When the Queen dies there will be a sea change of opinion as the next incumbent to the "top job" has less respect and appeal. I am all for a democratically elected president. It is the only way forward. But that has to be in a gradual transistional process and not a quick abolition after her passing It would be cruel to do that to an elderly woman now.. A President chosen and elected by the people and not a lackey by the politicians, Ughh!
@BRUTUALTRUTH - Although we've elected some awful PM's and a President would be similar. At least the Queen has given her whole life to her country and duty. I dunno, who knows!
@The1985Channel Er,,,,,,,,,,,,who voted for the Queen? Shs is only Queen as her uncle fell in love with an older woman who could not have kids and he was akso a NAZI admirer.
Trust the people to vote for a Prsident and not what pops out between the legs of a female member of the royal family. That is medieval!
@BRUTUALTRUTH I know that you'd love to see the monarchy collapse in this country and the Queen's place taken by some former politician like Blair who was widely vilified in their heyday and is merely accepting the office of President as a way of improving their own image. Modern Britain has a lot of problems, yes, but the monarchy is not one of them.
Just because a leader is elected doesn't mean they'll be accepted or liked by many of the people they lead - remember Thatcher and Blair?
@The1985Channel Thatb is because you have a I-Know-My-Place serf mentality that these parasites live off! Frau Lizzie Windsor laughs at no-brainers like you!
@The1985Channel See how foolish you are. I am not a socialist and never will be. Eejit. You don;t need to be a communist to have a DEMOCRATICALLY elected head of state, Coimmunist and serfs like you with the I-Know-My-Place mentality are as bad as other! Eejit!
@The1985Channel Hey Mental Mickey I hate Blair and Labout yer eejit you! hee hee. The Queen must love fuckwits like you keeping her in luxury! hee hee
@BRUTUALTRUTH All right then, so you hate Labour, you hate the Tories and therefore you must hate the Lib Dems as well for helping get Cameron into Number 10. Who the hell do you want as the first "President of Britain", then? You'd probably launch a revolution, force the Royal Family out of the country and then just stand around wondering "What the fuck are we supposed to do now?"
Saying things like "hee hee" in your comment just makes you look like a tool.
@martynblackburn1977 actually the freemasons are the ones who dethrone the king of france and bankrupted the french monarchy in order to fund the freemasons' and the rothschild's expedition in northern america.
The British defeated the freemasons and the rothschilds in Quebec thats why you have a Canada now, a more stable government and country than the american freemasonry-rothschild federal reserve pseudo-republic.
@MrPcosay the royal standard is raised whenever the Queen is in Parliament. After the Queen leaves Parliament, the UK Flag is raised again. That is also the case in Buckingham Palace. Whenever the Queen is in residence, the royal standard is flown. When the Queen is not in the Palace, the UK flag is flown. Usually the Union flag is flown because the Queen is always busy with her appointments elsewhere in the country.
Its a sham that at parilament you cannot take pcitures inside and there is no guide book. Its sad becuase there are thousands of paintings and pictures I like at parilament but I only got to see them for only 2 seconds becuase the tour guide rushed through the building. I even got told off for walking a meter away from the group.
@Shivaram000 It demonstrates the Commons' right to debate without interference of the soveriegn. It comes from 1642 when Charles I tried to aresst 5 MPs (who fled). When he asked the speaker where they were he essentially told them that he only follows the instructions of the House.
@LoneDragoon90 Your right and your wrong King Charles II turned the Monarchy back to an absolute Monarch by Dissolving Parliament because he thought it was his 'God divine right to rule on his own' till they return when James II comes on the throne and acts like a catholic... so they get rid of him... so the yes the Independence was born in 1642 but got reborn when James II F$@&ed off :)
@cpnstav 'should soon be re naming the houses of parkiament to "Star of david House"" - Oh be quiet you insane nazi fuckwit. You probably think the Queens jewish too, right?
@vseruskiesvinamatki Labour MP Dennis Skinner is known for making a quip during this part of the ceremony. He said to the Yeoman Usher (subbing for Black Rod) "No Royal commisions this week." (a reference to the former Duchess of York taking money for introducing businessmen to the Duke of York. The Yeoman finished, then said "Thank You, Dennis."
@ianmann64 - well, actually, we *can* understand it - don't presume for everyone.
The Commons' behavior shows just how base England/GB (and other countries can be) without some more ennobling principle. Modern countries wd be nothing more than what they are - grasping commercial enterprises peopled with self-serving idiots. At least a royal family can be above the selfishness & stupidity (tho they are, of course, humans and have their own foibles)... UK yes, britain/england other wd suck.
@ianmann64 What exactly do you mean? Why would the average American be expected to know about the State Opening of Parliament, something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the US? Perhaps you can explain the mechanics of the State of the Union address in the US, then (and not just what it's about, but rather things such as who escorts the President into the House, the "designated survivor", the role of the Supreme Court Justices, etc)? Let's not make such foolish comments, okay?
why on earth, the door is slammed and this guy takes a stick and whacks it at the door and again its opened...Very funny...
If you don't know history and apparenly not, it is to demonstrate that the monarchy doesn't call the shots, It needs to knock and ask permission to enter the house of commons.....it's quite unfortunate that many don't understand.
@shahideurope Your quite right what I meant is its best if you have some one above the government and parliament that acts as a safe guard between each general election. This person can be either a Monarch or a President. As a supporter of the Monarchy I am quite happy with the current system. However I can appreciate why you might be disgruntled as it has been 300 years since parliament decided who would be our monarch.
