A little bouncier and more commercial than Connie Smith's version. I think Smith's version is superior because it sounds slightly harsher and sadder--and has a better twang-twang guitar. Still, this is the second-best version I've heard.
Norma Jean's voice, incidentally, always reminds me of that of some woman of '80s pop; but who?
@oldtexasmusic I'm not sure. There were so many young women in the '80s who sang similarly--in rock, pop, country, blues, folk, etc. Roseanne Cash and punk-rocker Belinda Carlisle from The Go-Gos owe a lot to the women of '50s and '60s country. But there's someone in particular that Norma Jean reminds me of. If it comes to me, I'll surely fill you in on my opinion! Speaking of punk, have you ever heard Rachel Sweet's country singles, made when she was 12 to 14? Check 'em out!
Hi, you've saved the best till last, you would never think this was an old recording, her voice sounds as good as if she had had all the modern enhancing.
I don't love you any more,but I don't love you any less.,clever lyrics.
@BABSINUK Most of the music in my collection has been ran through at least one music clean up program. Definitely improved the sound. Some that has the natural hissing of the old 45 or 78 turning on the turntable I tried to leave as it was if the rest of the sound was acceptable.
i was looking for the band and i got this :/

@jannyrcobs I agree with you and could Helen Reddy possibly be the pop singer?
