but dont use this tutorial for xp use wubi for xp
wubi for xp is terribly slow. So much so I don't bother using ubuntu now that my xp box is fixed, and because of no sound on ubuntu 9.10
what is that "2 GB of free space for Swap" used for? please explain swap. thanks.

If i am remembering correctly, swap is basically the equivalent of virtual RAM
