  • Put the gravel cuz. Gravel can reduce the green.

  • wow tht tank can realy help color the fish beleive me wen u do a water change ul see

  • Been there done that! My tanked loved to go green, especially when family would visit during the holidays- when you want it looking its best. Light adjustments and UV sterilizer... no more green water for me.

  • It's funny how people leave comments giving advice 3 years later. I thought the tank looked cool.

  • badly

  • theres something called a filter

  • @honeypregno dumb? greenwater cannot be cured by a normal filter :P

  • the reason of this problem migth be that there may by too much of sun light, close to window or...would be good to put some background picture or somethig to cover back n side walls.then tank wouldnt get that much of dayligt

  • In all the time i have kept goldfish as pets(10 years) my water has NEVER looked like that!

I get a little algae on the glass, but small patches that my fish like to lick off, when they are hungry- which is ALWAYS! :p

Not sure if it is luck, or the fact that my tank light isn't on ALL DAY, and my tank isn't near a window, though there is one in the room were my tank is.

Most of all, i CLEAN IT weekly.

  • I like how atmospheric that tank looks... Has anyone set up an atmospheric tank like this and made it look good?

  • You should get a giant pleco...OR a few catfish, and light also causes algae to grow faster

  • I guess you got a little bit to much plants algea that attract

That bad for their fishes they love it when you scrape it off the glasses but here they can be are sick in after a while

Use a Juwel filter it actually work and remove every dirty out of the water

and use a algeascrabber they remove everything

    BUY IT

  • Too much algae bloom. Try to change the water often. (cycled water if you can). But only 20%. Or, just get a bunch of live plants and a UV filter. Try scrubbing the sides down, and maybe an algae eater? Trust me, it would be gorged by the time this tank becomes clear.

  • no amount of accuclear will cure that,uv filter at about 30 quid for that size will work miracles, will be like tapwater from then on

  • awww are those otos? :D very cute

  • check out my video of Fish 101 it will tell you about having a new tank & cycling your tank.

  • green water is good for ur fish

  • Put in some algae eaters you can buy them at the pet store the auctally eat the algae and if a fish dies it will eat it

  • @cutiegirls4ever the only algae-eating creature suitable for a tank that small would be a snail. Both Chinese algae eaters and plecostomus get way too large for a (what looks to me like) a ten gallon.

  • Beutiful tank very unique

  • i have a snail to keep my algae numbers down

  • you should put s freshwater mussle in that tank because they are filter feeders

  • all these people although they are trying to help are wrong in some ways ...let me explain those are temporary fixes the water changes will dilute it but for what it will be back no one here seams to know the cause which to an expirienced eye is jumping out of the screen almost garretee94 is completly right the real problem and only solution is your light ..it is too powerful for a freshwater tank im guessing you have about 4-5 watts per gallon? right get it down to 1-3 watts per gallon mate...

  • My favorite and easiest cure is: DAPHNIAS!!!

  • @YuckyLuckyDucky What if you have a submersible filter? wont they get sucked in???

  • @seanfenrir Yes and no. Some will swim away to avoid it and the weaker one's will get suck into it. Either way, they will clear up the water before dying off completely. You might even end up with plenty daphnias after the water has cleared up. And you can use that to feed your fish or even start a culture :)

  • @YuckyLuckyDucky Ive tried the eggs and none hatched :/ where do you think I should get them from?

  • @seanfenrir I don't know about hatching daphnias, but you should be able to get them online at aquabid or ebay. Anyway, it's easier to get rid of green water once and for all with what others here have said: sterilizer. Another thing to mention is that green water doesn't do any harm to fish, so don't worry about it. As a matter of fact, it's good for breeding or fries first food :)

  • u have very high phosphate level in ur tank do water change of 1/4 the total gallons of ur tank and i would say get a UV sterilizer and also limit lighting to under 7-8 hours aday. good luck hope it gets better

  • Take your fishtank out of direct sunlight that is the primary cause of green water to much sunlight

  • get a uv sterilizer....

  • It is good for the fish, but I understand that it's not pretty to look at. If you want my advice, make a large water change (40%), wait a week, then make another, smaller (20-30%) water change.

  • ypu need use hydra cristal

  • I have the same thign over and over again if you found a way to fix it let me know PLEASE

  • thats a powefull light for freshwater... thats why u got green water stronger the light the mroe alge that grows

  • Algea Destroyer works great for green water clears it up in a few hours then do a big water change and your good.

  • forget it home boy start over get all that green water outta there, put fresh clean clear water, forget the whole water changing, too much water and takes to long. then after doing all that try not putting so much light on the water that's why water turns green. i waited for 2 months doing water changing everyday , and next thing you know my fish died. so i started over and booyaa. everything looks great. but of course you gatta go through a cycle again, don't wanna harm your fish

  • I have this problem too. But it's not a problem to me. I like it, my fish love it. I think they feel more secure in green water than clear water. And, they grow really fast in these algae waters.

  • Green water IN NO WAY harms fish. In fact, fish love it. It provides a form of cover and some fish eat the floating algae. A good water change will not cure green water, but it will dilute it enough to allow another "cure" to work. No more than 50% change. Then try one or a combo of these three: Chemical (algaefix, etc), Diatom filter, or UV sterilizer. Good Luck.

  • @DanWi

Have you used algaefix? If so, did you notice a drop in pH (or other water chemestry), how did your fish react to it?

Thank you for any advice :)

  • wow dude you have to to a water change and add some aqua + and cycle and let it sit ! ok if you have a filter its not working ,for sure ,you alost get some plecos clows are wicked but thw water should NEVER get that way that your tortchering the fish in there that animal curlity shame on you dude i how you now know what to do , all get an unger water filter with two power head the flush out the poop once a week ! good luck and may god bless the fish !

  • how to avoid green water in aquarium?:| cuz mine is green already and it has filter already... do you need to buy UV steriliser to avoid this?:-/

  • To sort out the green algae in my tank I had to by a UV steriliser. My tank was as bad as yours but in 5 days its crystal clear. I have lots of windows so it catches too much light. Only run it in the tank for a week a month and it stops a bloom
