why do people always think he's drunk or high or arrogant? it's none of that. it's just shyness. just look at every interview he's ever done throughout the years. every time he's ever spoken as himself, not as acting out a script and character and you'll see that he is an extremely shy person with quite severe social anxiety. his personality is nothing like the characters he plays.
@mrniall97 People at least me personally hated the first 3 because well you had no characters from the original (which can be forgiven) but mainly because everything was CG (computer generated) from the dumb droids they fought to (vomit) Jar Jar... and you could tell which to me destroyed the whole world, the illusion if you will, I liked the new light saber battles, but that's about it.
@Nick4484 I didn't even like the new battles. They were more flash then substance. At least in the old ones it looked like it could be possible, kinda like a sword fight with extaordinary powers thrown in, but the new ones people just spun around and flipped for no reason, in what would probably get them killed if they did the same in a real battle. That's IMO though.
Star Wars was really a great movie to many people but to me and some of the chosen few we have started the Star Wars Church of Trilogy celebrating and honoring the original Star Wars movies from the late 70's and early 80's. We are not to be confused with the Star Wars Chronicles Church First Anakin which commemorates the latter series of Star Wars although we have had some converts and welcome all Star Wars lovers to one day unite. We must give tribute and due honor to the original series
Actually he was pretty funny. Some people like sloppy, wet, obvious humor. Some people like dry humor. The comment about the earlier "funny" movies was precious.
Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill... they are only the actors for a good Star Wars movie! I want them back for one final Star Wars Movie! Bring back Han, Leia and Luke!
It would have been even better, if Billy Dee Williams and James Earl Jones were on stage with em (and someone holding a picture of Alec Guiness) But pretty powerful closing scene nonetheless.....I guess they wanted it to be identical to the end of a new hope
@superhamaz85 Actually you have it backwards, Lucas is a great storryteller, but not a fantastic director. He has trouble with "actors" and "control". This is why he hired others to direct the sequels. I love that Harrison added "the earlier, funny chapters".
I find it funny how Lucas' most memorable characters and movies involved compromises he didn't want. And when I look at his more recent work including the remastered editions of the old Star Wars, I find myself quite happy that he had to compromise to tell the truth.
Not sure what has changed, but when Harrison mentiones "relationships that stood the test of time" I can't help but think of Episodes I-III. Anakin loves Padme, because he met her when he was 5...so deep. Genius storytelling, huh?
Well he had to compromise back then as he was BEING funded, and he had to prove himself. But he made thr prequels as an Emperor - that was the problem, and the same problem anywhere in any form of massive project when one man has excessive control.
@superhamzah85 I think the problem is not so much being in complete control. Lucas is a very good director, but not a very good story teller. If he ever was, I'm not sure why he has lost the "touch" or if he used to have scene writers back in the day.
There wasnt really anywhere to include solo as a kid. Solo was only about 10 Years older than Luke and Leia. Unless they would have had a mix up with Boba Fett as a Kid, and could Explain a lot of the Angst they had cause maybe Solo would have been the only person to have seen Fett's Face. But, they didnt. I still think Lucas should have got James Cameron to Direct the Prequels.
Ahhhhh, he gave Chewie a shout out. That's awesome. I never thought Harrison felt that warm towards his Star Wars past, but it was nice to see him do that.
You'll notice at the end when James Earl Jones said "...and THESE are the actors who brought your legend to life." ONLY Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, "C3-PO", "Chewbacca", and "R2-D2" were on stage! As it should be. There is only ONE, TRUE, "Star Wars" trilogy, and it was started back in 1977!
@petewkro There were 6 movies so it's not really a trilogy. Episodes I, II and III were good but there's no way they could ever have lived up to the hype and the excitement of the fans of the original 3 movies, no way.
Hollywood is full of petty, shallow, and self centered people. It's great to see a moment of true sincerity. We have to remember that celebrities are people just like us. Not gods. Not immortal. Just people. The honesty and gratitude in Harrison's voice is genuine. Something we can all aspire to and learn from one of the few seemingly grounded people in show business. What a great moment!
I got a tear in my eye at the end :') So amazing to see the great characters in our movie history together again after so long. I love the old Star Wars movies and I wish that George Lucas had focused more on the story in the new Star Wars movies and characters than on the special effects. Long live Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker :D
@elmalloc Really? are you that much of a sad little person. Examples? First Valadictorian high school, 10 minute speach 3k students 10k family. College, countless presentations not huge crowds 200- 300 people each time. Work, training seminars 300-500 average. I can understand his problem cause I have the same thing. I still get freaked out each time I have to get up in front of people. And have had to find ways to mask it, clearly he has a drink before, me I rehurse over and over.
@burrowsshreds Harrison actually has another speech later in the tribute when he talks about Indiana Jones. I can't find it anywhere on YouTube but it's pretty hilarious.
