  • Part 168: Shame in public. We are the product of our educational system. In the 60's,some of our teachers never failed to shame us or ridicule us in public. If we failed our Spelling & Dictation, our books would be thrown on the floor or out at the corridors. If we fell asleep,a chalk would be thrown at our face.If we were found talking to our classmates,we would be accused of not paying attention and sent out to stand at the corridor.I wonder if such things are still happening in the present system

  • Part 166: Two years ago, her youngest brother found a purse containing $6000 outside a bicycle shop in Pasir Ris.He could have coveted the money but he did not, instead he went to the extent of returning the money right to the doorstep of the owner in Toa Payoh, but she was not in.He left her a note and they met at the bicycle shop.In appreciation, the owner rewarded him $200.Are you all not proud of such citizens? This is worth mentioning when there is so much corruption in this world!!!

  • Part165:Honesty must be taught from young. In 1966/67,the Post Office promoted a savings scheme for school children.Children could buy stamps from the Post Office n paste them on a card. When the card was fully filled,it could be submitted with the bank account book for update. One day while pasting stamps,a little school girl found a wallet next to her. She handed the wallet to the counter staff so that the owner could claim it.Thanks to the civics education that was taught;Be Honest,Do not litter

  • Part 164: The damage could have caused the taxi-driver a few hours of loss of earnings. The couple was also worried that he would fly into a rage when he came knocking on the door, but all was well as the matter was settled amicably. Before the taxi-driver left,he told the man's wife,"I've never met such an honest man like your husband as my taxi was hit a few times but no one owns up." This Chinese New Year, the taxi-driver's wife sent the family goodies for CNY.

  • Part 163.Honesty,Responsibility & A Forgotten Story--A couple was rushing their baby, who was running a high fever,to the clinic. In a moment of haste, the husband reversed the car too quickly n damaged the headlight of a taxi that was parked behind.Instead of driving away,he left a note on the windscreen of the taxi. When the couple returned, the wife went to knock on every known taxi-driver in the block but to no avail. The next day,a gentleman came with the note n only asked for $40 as compensation

  • Part 159: Human behaviour is incomprehensible.I think why our country is so successful is because many of us are not calculative. In fact, many of us are very sensible, very generous n kind.At ground level,we know what is hardship. We sympathize with one another and we help one another. We stash our wealth in heaven and not on earth. We have been living on borrowed funds, from donations in cash and kind from all our relatives, friends and all our dearest neighbours.A very big THANK YOU to all of them.

  • Part 155:The other day, did you all watch the man who was attacked by a leopard in the state of Assam,India? During the accident, I was bloodier than him as my whole jacket was soaked with blood streaming from my son's head.My daughters, who were in shock shouted,"Mummy, don't come near us,you look gory, stay where you are!"I don't want to be mean but I really looked like an "Ang Pow"(red packet) for Chinese New Year. The ambulance refused to come, the reason being it was not on its way!!!.

  • WoW! This is the best utube video I've ever seen in my 20 years of surf the net. Super clear!Incredible! I wish every vid is like this. And why shouldn't it be? After all the resources are out there. It shouldn't be a problem. Maybe of lack of funds. Utube can take 1028px. Some 1950's black & white movies looks like we're pouring at XXXXX vids. Absolutyely eye training. Thanks for this upload.

  • Part 150:Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly, will Lau Tian Ye(God) unroll the canvas n explain the reason why! Pls read how I suffered in Pg.19.People are living their lives,I am merely existing becos of the injuries that I sustained (a recurrent dislocation of my rt.shoulder n a nerve disease that will incapacitate me without any warning). There were a few times that I almost fell off the stairs.I have to hang on to provide the love for my children n the care for my husband

  • Part 142: After writing such a sad story,I went to hibernate. How nice if the whole world, except the plants and the trees, could go and hibernate, then our air will all be refreshed. This reminds me of the story of the Sleeping Beauty.I have to erase the previous parts to prevent copycat behaviours.Don't be mistaken that I erased those parts because I have told a lie or I was trying to sabotage anyone. We are all old enough to face reality. If possible, we do not want history to repeat itself.

  • Part 126: The trouble with the design of our present bedroom is that many are elongated. After placing the bed,we cannot place a wardrobe against the long wall,no allowance, unless you flaten yourself to squeeze through. We thought of putting the bed next to the window, then we will risk having sensitive nose. The entrance of the bedroom should not be built at 1 corner, give an allowance of 60cm from any wall so that we can have a build-in wardrobe all the way and not stop short half way.

  • Part 125:Children like to sleep with parents in the same room because many are afraid of the dark.Psychologists say when children feel secured and protected when they were young, they would grow up with better personalities and therefore less juvenile delinquency. My neighbour is very clever. They broke the wall between 2 rooms when the children were young.Recently they put back the wall as the children have grown up.Next, it is also good that we sleep apart when we grow old(loud snores--2 beds).

  • Part 124:Smallness of bedrooms.According to a friend's feedback, she could hardly put baby cot in the master bedroom. There is risk sleeping with baby because when adult is asleep, you don't know what your body can do to the baby.I know of 1 tragedy.Recently, the bedrooms are even smaller.Another friend said she couldn't buy conventional wardrobe becos doors couldn't be opened, must buy one with sliding doors.Toddler stage--child wants to sleep with parents,so must put 1 single bed in master bedroom.

  • Part 116: Selamat Hari Raya Haji! Today is also my 25th Wedding Anniversary. No celebration but a hug and a kiss. Tough, we cling on to each other as we have made our wedding vow and we brought 3 children to this world so we have to be responsible for their survival. Likewise, you all are fated to be together,at least for the next 5 years,so love thy neighbour, anyone who sits next to you is your neighbour. Please don't quarrel! Talk amicably to solve our problems as the world is watching us!!!

  • Part 109: What is Patriotism? Patriotism is that the government must rule the country properly!--We don't have to be very rich but we must live a good life and be happy, so no one needs to see MP. To this, I end my story. If I have offended anyone unintentionally, thousands apologies! Please don't come after me because I am an old lady.

  • Part 101: In Malay,'Baris ke-kanan lurus' means take straight dressing from the right.Last time,in marching,we had to raise our right hand to have one arm's length away from the next person. Now, the entrance of our house to our immediate neighbour's entrance is so close, less than half an arm's length. Without getting out of our houses,we can shake hands. We often frighten one another if we get out at the same time.Other entrances are at right angle,so they have to wait for one another to get out.

  • Sorry, today I have a bad flu.I lost my voice and I can't talk to you! If I talk to you,you will laugh until S'pore is no longer a Lion City but a Laughing City!

  • Perhaps her 10 plots of Smurf strawberries are withering the next minute

  • Part 100:One highlight of the article is,Mr. Zhou was involved in the distribution of temporary shelters to some people of HK.The shelters were made from wood. The depth of bedroom was 6 metres. The designer forgot to give allowance for the planks and the pillars. Those who bought beds got to saw away a few inches of the beds to fit the bedrooms. The bedrooms in HDB flats are getting smaller n smaller. The toilet eats into the dimension of the master bedroom. Now,we do not know how to place the bed .

  • Part 99:The weather in S'pore is hot. Why are we using so much of glass walls in building flats?I even have to help Mdm. Yeo to shift the sofa away from the glass walls(I try to help her back in as many ways as I can,I also bought her many gifts from S H. to repay her kindness).Ms Chew,an ex-neighbour,had a flooding of the living room due to seepage from the glass wall, during heavy downpours. The flooding was so bad that it spoiled her furniture. She was fed-up so she sold away the flat at a loss.

  • Part 98:Sorry,I erased the previous passage.I don't know han yu pin yin. The children helped me,it sounded a little like vulgar language n it might spoil my image.'Yao zhu le shu fu cai suan' by Mr Zhou(Lianhe Zaopao 13 Oct 2007).It talks about blocks of flats should be 40 metres apart. This is to allow enough sunlight for every family. The use of solar power is minimal in S'pore(if too high usage,we don't know what is the side effect). There is an abuse in the usage of glass walls in 'C' country.

  • Part 97: My father-in-law passed away on 8 Jun 2010 after battling colon cancer for 5 years. His total medical expenses was $120K. My mother-in-law is battling breast cancer now.All their neighbours are smokers. We are what we breathe in.I hope designers of HDB flats can put indoor air quality as first priority--fresh air can flow freely through the blocks. My neighbours,1 died of brain cancer at age 32, 1 died in his sleep at age 44, 1 died of throat cancer at age 70 n many others we dare not ask.

  • Part 96: The family who stays below us has 3 smokers.During the period of soccer matches, they would smoke throughout the night. One night,at about 2.30am,I woke up with a choking cough,to my horror, the whole house was filled with cigarette smoke. From that day,I started to close all the non-essential windows when we sleep.Non-smokers can get lung cancer,too(Today,16 Aug 2005 Pg 43) It says doctors still do not know why non-smokers develop lung cancer, since smoking is the primary cause of cancer.

  • Part 95:On 13 May 2010, I called HDB if they could do something to the wall. An officer came and said that most likely it couldn't be done.He said he would get an engineer to come and assess the wall.Till today,no one came.I also did not realise it was so long ago already. When you get out in the morning, the glare from the morning sun on the extended block will blind your eyes.Maybe HDB can advise town councils to paint the higher floors a darker shade to solve the myopic problems of our kids!

  • this is unacceptable.. even though i support PAP & voted for Tin Pei Ling and Tony Tan in General & President Election 2011.. i find that this MP rly should make official apology..
