When these variety sketch comedy shows were first broadcast I was in my middle teens! I remember them well...my Mom & I tuned in to each and every one of them every week--they ruled the day and the t.v. airwaves for many a year. All the 'manstay' comedians became beloved 'members of the t'v' viewing families all over America. And you got to see the best of the best every week. Miss'em greatly! /~_\\
I love this show and used to watch it on Nick @ Nite and then Trio (I sure miss my Trio). I wish they would release it by season on dvd. This blooper reel is a hoot!
It's amazing to see this after almost 45 years............I never missed this show. Actually, it broke up my Boy Scout troop because meetings were on Monday nights, the same time Laugh-In aired, and nobody showed up for meetings!
Anythinig went in those days. Even though the language in half of that stuff would not even have been censored by today's standards, they still wouldn't broadcast it on national TV. They're just too afraid that someone would get sued. And let's face it, when the laughs go we're in trouble.
bold, beautiful, and brilliant........spewwin for generations, what we learn from our parents...., that we can now see as satire,,,, not life............i hope!!!!!!!!!
Wow, seeing how raucous everyone is offstage, it kind of makes you sad to see just how much the show was compromised by the censors. Imagine if they'd really let the show get run loose!
My favorite part is when Dan Rowan accidentally calls himself gay. He tries so hard to cover it up, but Martin caught it and practically has a heart attack from laughing so hard.
I was searching for one of his poems on Laugh in ANYWHERE online to post on my fb page as an Homage. If anyone can find it let me know. I guess it is restricted due to copyright?
one of my favorite shows...ever.... I played ruth buzzi "old lady on the bench" in a school play. remind me to show you the pic. it was in the local paper
The highlights of this are the Tim Conway clip (6:04), Pamela Rodgers' priceless reply to Dan Rowan's straight line (7:35), and Sammy Davis Jr.'s classic closing (8:27).
Oh my God, I'm laughing so hard I just can't stop. Everything stopped at my house when Laugh in was on. These bloopers are priceless! This bunch poked fun at EVERYBODY! and it was hilarous! Truly a classic!
Now you can tell how director George Schlatter got the nickname "CFG" (for "Crazy F*cking George"). But I just LOVE Sammy Davis Jr's monologue at the end and Dan Rowan's facial expression at 7:46.
well keep in mind this was not what was shown on television -- this was a blooper reel. The actual show relied on innuendo and was actually much funnier even than this. I never missed an episode.
True, but when you consider my parents actually allowed me to watch this show, and I was only seven....! I can only shake my head in wonder...then thank them for letting me experience something that was so culturally unique at the time it happened!
You want to see un-PC by any standards, go to Wikipedia and look up "Turn-On". I saw it at the time, and honestly didn't think it was that bad, except the idea of the show being hosted by a computer -- that felt pretty lame to me (I was 11 at the time). But it was cancelled after one episode and denounced as "filthy".
I agree entirely. What's even more sad is when you think of them when they are middle-aged. What are they going to look back fondly on? What garbage TV and garbage film and garbage music are they going to look back fondly on that will give them a sentimental tear in their eye when they're in their 50s?
"Hey! Remember that sad, nihilistic, cynical crap?"
The only thing missing is the Gladys/Tyrone skit with Don Rickles where Don breaks up when Arte sings "She was six years old/she stole my powerhouse."
Great!!

These shows were hysterical. Unfortunately most of the regulars never found a similar place to show off their talents after Laugh In.
I don't know about anyone else, but I would have bet 1,000 to 1 against Goldie Hawn being the one star to come out of this series.
