I like her voiceprint and her whole vintage diva image but I think that these songs were written especially for the notes she can reach. And even those she struggles with sometimes, as is evident on her SNL appearance. Whatever fame she will get will be on the back of this album because if she ever releases another one it will contain the same set of songs and it will be almost a copy of this one. I would be delighted to be wrong but that's the way I see it.

It's not the Lord's Prayer at the beginning. It is the "Loud Prayer" by Ferlinghetti, which is very mocking of God ("hollow be thy name" instead of "hallowed be thy name"). I am really wondering what her motivation was for putting that clip at the beginning.

Flannery O'Connor wrote some pretty fucking gruesome short stories with lots of Christian imagery--that's because she was a devout Catholic. Not every Christian is a good little boy or girl from the Bible Belt. So the only question remaining is what the fuck is wrong with you?
