It was a simple battle in Heaven between Hera a pre olympian Mother Goddess of the early aegean civilization.who had married Zeus against her will. Her religon pre dates Zeus by 1000 years. Their mythological arguments reflected the conflict of early patriarchal and matriarchal cults. She was also called Hebe, Hekate,Heira,Eura,Eriu. Her cult spread all over europe were she was worshiped under different names.
Don't forget that the classical world was patriachal. Therefore Hera represents the patriachal view of marriage: Marriage is a b**** and Hera is the same way.
You have to give her some credit: she certainly didn't take her husband's cheating lying down (although I certainly don't condone many of her methods).
Hera was the wife and one of three sisters of Zeus in the Olympian pantheon of classical Greek Mythology. Her chief function was as the goddess of women and marriage. In Roman mythology, Juno was the equivalent mythical character. The cow, and later, the peacock were sacred to her. Hera's mother was Rhea and her father, Cronus.
Portrayed as majestic and solemn, often enthroned, and crowned with the polos (a high cylindrical crown worn by several of the Great Goddesses), Hera may bear a pomegranate in her hand, emblem of fertile blood and death and a substitute for the narcotic capsule of the opium poppy. A scholar of Greek mythology Walter Burkert writes in Greek Religion, "Nevertheless, there are memories of an earlier aniconic representation, as a pillar in Argos and as a plank in Samos."
Hera was known for her jealous and vengeful nature, most notably against Zeus's lovers and offspring, but also against mortals who crossed her, such as Pelias. Paris offended her by choosing Aphrodite as the most beautiful goddess, earning Hera's hatred.
Hera should've been featured more in the Clash of the Titans remake, she was always jealous of Zeus's "bastard' children and plotted against them at times.
Lucifer was allowed back in Heaven. It's shocking, but true. For example, in the Book of Job, the fallen Satan presents himself before God's heavenly court like all the other "sons of God" (angels). And Satan's future heavenly activities are found in the Book of Revelation. However, his relations with God are not friendly anymore. God has a new lover called the Bride of Christ (Christians). Because these believers have replaced Satan, he jealously pursues them more than anyone else.
When you compare ancient Judaic religion with Greek Myth, you find parallels between Hera and Lucifer. They both were the closest companions to the supreme God. They both thought they should rule Heaven by themselves. They each led a rebellion in Heaven and were temporarily thrown out (Hera was removed from Mount Olympus and the Book of Ezekiel says Satan was thrown out of the Mountain of God, after which, they both were allowed back. There are other matches, too.
@theheartofkandrakar Unless I'm speaking to Homer himself, I'd say she was. The location Zeus placed her was between Earth and sky. Understand that with no Olympus beneath her feet, it meant that she was NO LONGER ON MOUNT OLYMPUS. Zeus intended for this to be Hera's eternal punishment based on a condition, but in one version of the story, Hephaestus set her free to which she returned to her throne and in another version, it was Hera's constant crying that compelled Zeus to end her punishment.
@mamirola She was a jealous woman and took her rage out on her son, that made her an abusive mother because her husband was a dick. Still not right. Don't piety her.
It is said that limitations for humans are not bound to the gods. So for them incest does not exist. And it is seen in many mythologies, not only that of the Ancient Greek
You do know that Gods are forces of the universe that rise from the same source? the same way all humankind arise from the same source, yet still unique? To call it "sister" is just a human way to understand the point of creation between them. Read Heroclitus or Sallustius.
@raynanlagasc Yep...interbreeding to make sure the children of Olympus are pure. The thing is, Zeus wanted more than Hera. Hence the birth of Hercules.
@raynanlagasc Back then it didn't matter what sexuality you had. You could be gay, incest, pedophile, zoophile, lesbian, bisexual etc. and no one would care, because there were no labels back then. And it kinda makes sense that they had to marry eachother to survive since they were so few, and they wanted to maintain their pure Olympian blood, although Zeus, Poseidon and Hades soon got turned on by mortal women.

@theheartofkandrakar Also, Satan is not in Hell, yet. He is known as the Prince of the Powers of the Air according to Ephesians 2:2, in the Bible.

Zeus' sister is his WIFE NO WAY!!!!!!!!.Now that was against the ten commandments of the real GOD.
raynanlagasc 3 years ago
Fun fact: The ten Commandments had existed for nearly 500 years before the rise of Greek mythology.
Tebor2 3 years ago
the Code of Hammurabi is older than that and were also passed down from God,
The practices of the Greeks are just as old. Myths are nothing but stories of the gods done as theatre.
