They will ofcourse notice that humans can never replicate canine behaviour for 100%, and that we don't possess a scent gland. But a wolf is able to look around these facts (in order to survive). Which is also one of the reasons why wolves are such succesful predators, even rivaling humans at one point.

I go hiking and see black bears occasionally in the NC mountains. I get out of their territory and leave them alone but I stay in the woods. Seems when I return from mountains everyone wants to know if I saw a bear and ask to see video.
I thought I got a little crazy and acted like I worked at animal planet on my last hike and recorded a bear eating a campers backpack until it stomped the ground, letting me know I was too close.
this reminds me of the Wolf Brother series, amazing books by the way, yes this is possible, no that guy is not crazy, yes i want to do what hes doing so bad!

The thing is though wolves aren't known and proven (on multiple occasions) man killers like grizzly bears, tigers etc. The wolf's bad reputation comes mostly from stories passed down that were based on human fear of the unknown. Yeah they're a wild animal and you should never not expect them to become violent and agressive, but they aren't super human agressive like bears and tigers and even chimps. The majority of recorded wolf attacks are 1. rare situations which 2. most often involve rabies.

I can assure you, that Mr. Ellis lived among truly wide wolves in wilderness of the state Idaho. And it was on the contrary - wolves fed him as he had no chance to go hunting with them. One wolf even saved him from an attack of bear, that would have been fatal for an armless man.
He became a low ranked member of the pack and the pack took care of him.

Wolves are very smart animals by the way... wolves have been known to save and take care of lost children and people on the brink of death in the woods. (Maybe killing is dominate but not smart) -a retard can kill someone or something. Studies show that when a wolf is captured they can quickly figure out latches and gates by watching people.

@janice7769 As far as your own intelligence goes, that was an extremely rare case (the little girl from Russia), otherwise the wolves would have either ripped a human child to shreds or ignored it, most likely the former. A wolf may have enough intelligence to decipher gates with simple locks, but a wolf isn't smart enough to open a damn padlock on a gate. Domesticated dogs can open simple locks :| wolves really aren't that smart

It's one thing to attempt interaction with a pack-hunting breed such as wolves who have some instinctive ties to humans after millennia of interaction & approach the situation as one of their own, it's another to test the instincts of lone predators which outweigh and out-power you 5 to 1. The guy had no skill reading situations. There were no signs that the types of bonds he believed were there had been forged.
