Only if u match it with a 64-bit OS... i rly notice a difference when i take out 1 stick but i think that is because the dual channel is not there......
hey, I have a Corsair Dominator RAM 4GB kit @ a latency of 9-9-9-24 @ 1.8V. What worries me is the volts...will it be ok if I overclock it with a AMD Phenom II X4 955 [BE]? This is going on my first ever rig, and i'm pretty inexperienced at things, please help!
umm im not sure about amd but as long as it is not triple channel/x58 then the volts for the cpu and ram should be unlinked, so you should be able to change them independently. hope this helps
Dominator for sure. The dominator series has tighter timings at higher frequencies therefore making it over clock better. Keep in mind they charge accordingly (2GB dominators cost about the same as 4GB XMS3)
yes the XMS3 is sufficient for even heavy overclocks (or no over clock if you want). The Dominator series is only for the hardcore over clockers that want to squeeze every last bit out of their system. The Dominator series is basically XMS3 with a factory over clock
In short, No, 6GB is sufficient for anything these days. If DDR4 or 5 was out and everything was 64bit then i would say get 12GB but almost every program you buy wont support the full 12GB, most don't even support 4GB yet. If you're gaming and editing/rendering then i would suggest you invest in a top of the line Core i7 (the 965 preferrably) processor and a GTX 200 series video card but please keep in mind that the great thing about computers is that there are alternatives to nearly everything.
I just ordered a computer without the dominator, just normal corsair ddr3. This is coming with a 920 setup on an asis se mother. I'm just curious if I ever do overclock this, how far can I go with this ram? (3gb)
Getting 4GB of this stuff, is it worth it? ty 4 any replies

hey, iv got the Dominator 4gb xms3 RAM and its @1.65V
The motherboard manual iv got says it takes RAM @ 1.5V.
Will that be ok or will i need to change the VDIMM in the BIOS?
cheers

it should be ok, run some stress test on your ram tho, it might not have enough power under 100% load...

Do you reckon XMS3 or Dominator would be better????

Thanks for such an informative reply :)
So if I'm not planning to overclock, xms3 will be sufficient right...?
Cos I can get 12gb of xms3 at 1600mhz for the same price as 6gb Dominator at 1600mhz...

Ah ok.
Just one more question (sorry :-D)
Do you think its worth getting 12gb of RAM?
I'm looking into heavy gaming and video editing/rendering.
I could save some money just by getting 6gb, if it's sufficient.

Dominatior is the same thing as XMS 3 you just don't pay extra for corsairs "special" heatsink.

yes which enables you to overclock higher...
