  • Great Link: Boccherini: La Musica Notturna di Madrid - Passa Calle - Carmina Quartet - Rolf Lislevand .

Great Film. If it were only historically accurate. Britain was the Soviet State of the time. Constant maritime depredation in the 7 seas. Ask the American Colonials, and all other decent countries of the time.

  • @EPJM1750 I'm not sure there's such thing as a decent country. In any case, the British state was oppressive, but the men of the Royal Navy were still brave men & to be honest I don't think Britain's fight in the Napoleonic Wars was entirely unjust. It's more what happened after the fighting was finished - there was a recession, peaceful protests & riots as a result & the same military that fought in Portugal, Spain, Waterloo etc. was used to hunt down & kill the ring-leaders (I suppose they

  • @robsargent4 Wow, That was a part of British History military I didn't know. I did know that Victoria send hundreds of thousands o fpeople to Aussie, South Africa, NZ and Canada. So it must have been in order to avoid the social revolution that took place in the continent

  • @EPJM1750 thought they were suppressing an attempt at revolution, but for the most part the "rebels" just wanted to be treated like human beings). There's been progress since then, in Britain & elsewhere, but there's still a long way to go before we get close to perfection - partly cos we all have different views on what perfect really means.

  • Song-title (I beileve) "An afternoon in the Streets of Madrid

  • Bocherini= Seguidillas españolas

  • My fav part/song in the movie! Thanks for posting!

  • I read and love all the books, love the movie, and I dont even mind the slashy hints because I <3 both characters, (DID someone say polyandrous sandwich?) lol thanks for this!

  • The 14 dislikes are probably French

  • after seeing the film, I began reading the series by author, Patrick O'Brien and then the movie became a "reader's digest" version of the first three books where Dr. Maturin's character is given dialogue which only suggests to the reader of O'Brien's extensive masterpiece, that he is indeed not just a ship's doctor, scientist and naturalist. There was so much more potential for a series of movies here...maybe there's still time while people still empty their pockets for Jack Sparrow....

  • @nthemuseurodenon sigh... yes what a disappointment that movie was..

  • "slashy hints"

You do realise that neither of them are in the slightest bit gay?

  • Out of all the flims this wankers of directors etc.. make is fucking stupid, They barely touch topics of this era, Just looking at the Royal Navy alone can give you endless storylines.

  • i wish they made more... there's a whole book series that need to be made.

  • Magic!

  • I love this song its great

  • Have to agree with Knightnvy...read the books or get them from Audible and listen to them, great stuff!

  • then read the books there are a lot

  • Great movie and really loving this music now....

  • great movie. great actors. great music. great action. great nostalgic. great story.

  • @rabbitflink Indeed, sir! This movie deserves a sequel.

  • Am I the only one that noticed, in the film, the both get a wound in the same spot on the side of their chests? (Stephen from being shot, and Jack from being stabbed with a dagger during the battle.) :)

  • @SpockLover27 thats true, but I think stephen has been wounded on his right side and jack on his left??

  • @ivyleafdancer Not really sure. No I really think they had it on the same side... Could be wrong, but I seem to remember right where he got stabbed... Either way it's darling. :)

  • EXQUISITE MUSIC INSPIRED IN ONE SPANISH THEME,

  • pure awesomenesssssss!!!

  • if you like the movie you will love the 20 books from patrick o brian about live from J.Aubrey and S.Maturin.best movie and best books!!!!

  • Recent message from Russell Crowe: "If you want a Master and Commander sequel I suggest you e-mail Tom Rothman at Fox and let him know your thoughts." This is the same Rothman that supposedly had a hand in ruining Wolverine and is now holding back on Master and Commander. Some may remember that Crowe did say a script had been written based off of another novel, but it was still in the very early stages...

  • EXQUISITA MUSICA!!!

  • Rumors had they were amking Post Captain into a movie, just never materialised

  • whats name and author of this piece?

  • I meant Aubrey, not Maturin. Could I be confusing Aubrey with Hornblower..? I'll have to check...

  • @crwunnos Neither Aubrey nor Maturin were the least bit tone-deaf and both loved music; it forms the foundation of their friendship. They're at odds socially, politically, religiously, physically, and psychologically, but they're bound by their shared love of music. They've nearly dueled each other twice, and the first time was because Jack's enthusiasm at a concert disrupted Stephen's enjoyment of it! (Incidentally, Jack is the better player; he holds back out of consideration for Stephen! :)

  • dude the little boy that got his arm blown off wouldve made a great sequel to see how he turned out as an older officer

  • IIRC Maturin was tone deaf. Music was torture for him..! This scene was completely out of touch with literary facts.

  • @crwunnos Where did this come from? Maturin was always buying scores for them to play. He MET Aubrey at a concert. He lugged his viola everywhere...with all due respect, how did you surmise he loathes music?

  • during the battle scene in the film the doctor is with a laughing old man? can someone explain who this man is?

  • @Qtmas Probably Awkward Davies, if he looks crazed and laughing. I haven't seen the movie but am on book 17...and totally into the whole hx of the books, author, era.

  • @Qtmas OK, now I've seen the movie...and I think it's the older officer from the gunroom, who ends up in the movie with a shot to the forehead, but I can recall the name and just loaned the first five books to a friend

  • @chachamalone IIRC, that would be Mr. Allen, the master. I don't recall the scene that Qtmas is referring to, though.

  • @superjay42 YES. Thank you. It's been bugging me for months that I probably confused the written scene (the book) with the 'fillum'

  • @chachamalone Very welcome, 'pon me word. A glass of wine with you, sir!

  • @superjay42 Might a lady be acceptable? She would accept, and offer you the same, for all love.

  • @superjay42 Pray forgive me, madam - a thousand pardons - I am laid by the lee again, I find. I am very much obliged for your kindness and forbearance.

Killick - Killick there! - rouse out a dozen of Priorato with the yellow seal in honor of the lady. :)

  • @superjay42

'Killick, belay there; are you now about the cheese?'

'Which it's just coming up, ain't it?'

  • Does someone have the music sheet/ partition for the violin ??? :'( I'd LOVE to play it ! :o

  • The best sea-film i ever see. After see it, i buyed Patrick O´´brian colection. Please, where do you caught this scenes? thanks

  • Read the books

  • Great movie. Dr. Maturin is Catalan-Irish in the novels of Patrick O'Brian. Greetings from Barcelona (Catalonia) :-)

  • @AmuntCatalans Aqui aqui! que es noti :-) jo tb me llegit les noveles del O'Brian. Mencanta que el Maturin sigui un espia Catala-irlandes. Amunt Catalunya, res de matar toros, i independencia! After all, Surprise is on our side! ojala fessin una segona part! peliculassa.

  • Barcelona, Cataluña, España

  • The most mesmerizing movie Ive seen in a long time...next to Gladiator...and

Robin Hood...guess Im a Russell Crowe fan, major fan. This is great.

  • @msmsmmss Padeen was not black - he was Irish. Could you be thinking of Sam Panda?

  • おおこれは映画にないシーンばかり!

    どうやって手に入れたの? みごとな映像でObrianの原作みたい。

    arigatougozaimasu!thankyou!

  • Still one of my all time favorite vids :)

  • I think you are reading too much into the characters. If you want a deep and meaningful then read the books. I personally thought that the movie was well done.

  • Boccherini was the chamber musician of His Catholic Majesty of all Spains Charles the third.

  • I have read lots of reviews on this movie, most of which are negative I am sad to say. One review read " the film does not allow for the role of close relationships between the characters ", I think this is 100% WRONG. Friendship between the doctor and the captain is one relationship to which is very strong and is shown in great detail in this movie. What about the young left tenant and the boy (forgot their names) these two are shown to be close friends to. I think the film is great.

  • This is a brilliant movie, I thought it was a guy type of movie but I saw it on cable TV and was amazed at how good it is. I could easily watch it again.

  • Un montaje espectacular. Saludos desde Madrid

  • Amazing! When i got a headache, hangover or just need a pick me up. This music has it all!

  • i'm totally with you my friend. great film and music!

  • I love this music i love this move

  • What is that wonderful violin in the film when the surgeon spots the french ship from the island?????

I'm dying to get hold of it...

  • @Jackdoubleday1 it's about two thirds of the way into "the Acheron." An original piece for the film, it's on the soundtrack.

  • That's a crime!! Why has the swimming scene been deleted??? :Q_________

  • I haven't got the scene at 1:45

  • At 0:42 Jack is swimming. I don't have that scene in the version I have. Was that a deleted scene or is this a different release? Love the music by the way! I love the realism of this movie.

  • @deepthinker612 The swimming/hull damage scene is in the standard single disc UK release and was also part of the UK theatrical release, if my memory serves me correct. I have not seen any other versions.

  • @deepthinker612

ye man ive never seen that bit either, i dont recall him ever swimming in the film??

  • it's a deleted scene, you can see it in the double disc special edition dvd

  • Then you really should read the books...far, far better than the film.

  • It's a shame Crowe didn't chubby up a little for the role. In the novels, Jack is about 16 stone, and Stephen's constant good-natured teasing about Jack's weight is one of the funniest and most touching things about their friendship.

  • no sequels to this film? so many story lines and a great cast to boot.

  • scrap that. make it a high budget hbo series and start from scratch, with actors who have actually read the books.

  • @Humungojerry Amen, brother.

  • @Humungojerry And you'd think with what they're doing with CGI, it wouldn't even be that expensive to make if they just stuck a ship set in a bluescreen drydock. Even if it looked a little fake, it would still be terrific, just for the stories and relationships.

  • @ltwass Sometimes the cgi isn't less expensive. They leased--and in one instance, purchased--ships for the film. Peter Weir was at one time interested in the entire franchise, but later dropped future projects. I think he's more interested in the characterizations than the continuing theme; Maturin was probably the most interesting individual here. IMVHO, the books position Aubrey and Maturin as perfect complements. I can't think of a series I've ever read that I've been so into.

  • @pele6922 it was too expensive to make and did not make that much money. It seems people are losing all of their taste in movies.

This film was almost perfect. A work of art.

  • @sacon05

    true, true :)

  • @pele6922

nope, no sequels but book's are great, I've read about 5 of them and can't wait to buy next one (unfortunately it's impossible get them in my country since only 5 had been translated to my language, and I'm not this good in english to read this type of book :) )

  • @dinratil - also try some of the Alexander Kent books about Richard Bolitho. Same era, same type premise. I've read all 20 of the Patrick O'Brien books (sorry you can't get them translated), and am on #14 of the Kent books now. All since seeing this movie (which my HUSBAND dragged me to see). I cannot get enough. I think the movie gave me something tangible to hold on to while reading. I love this song and the Bach cello prelude #1 they play while taking Stephen ashore to operate on him.

  • @pele6922 im from a long line of Royal navy sailors, i am joining as a royal marine and would love to finally see a film about how incredible the Royal Navy were, a series of films, maybe a trilogy leading up to the Battle of Trafalgar.

  • @pele6922 No sequels because the director took bits and pieces from several of the books, thus making it so much harder to film all 20 of the books. Plus, the film didn't exactly burn up the box office. Still, I enjoyed it enough to want to read the books, and I'm not even that keen on fiction, and I never had an interest in naval history before this.

  • @pele6922 I would love a sequel to this film

  • Absolutely awesome xD

  • love the music and the movie!

  • awesome :D

  • Great music.

  • @jdewitt77

  • tell them to listen ;)

have you tried bachs cello suite 1 - the prelude? :)

  • i mean... who hasnt heard that song by now?

  • i say your boxing is weird for loving this music too. its great for sure, but boxing to it???? really????

  • im 16 i listen to some grime, hip hop, dance, rock and roll, METAL, this is just another type of music i love so much, just listening to it makes me appreciate the music and how it used to be back in those days, sum say im pathetic, some lads say im wierd, but yano what i say,

    fuck off?

  • Amen Brother.

  • These who don't have deleted scenes may post me a message and I'll give you the URL.

  • @LenokGo could you give me the URL that would be so wonderful

  • @LenokGo I need these!

  • @LenokGo Can you send me the URL, please? Those deleted scenes look really interesting.

  • where did a lot of this footage come from? I've watched this movie at least 20 times and I've never seen

    1:28-1:36

    1:53-2:07

    0:34-0:52

    0:13-0:16

I know this last one is an outtake (he bonks his head) but where'd you get an outtake? And where did the rest of this stuff come from? Did they release a sequel without me knowing it? Not bloody likely.

  • The description says it's from deleted scenes....

  • They're deleted scenes; most, if not all, are on the second disk of the 'special edition' DVD set. Just search it on Amazon, and it should come up...

  • really good music.

it would have been interesting to take one year of, to become a fisherman or work on a boat,

  • the song is absolutely great and the movie too, and i just wonder why can t wee see more often movies like master and commander

  • Cause crap like transformers does better at the BO.

  • absolutely amazing!!!

  • I've never seen these before, Absolutely masterpiece...

  • Ahoy ye bastards, feel the pissing breeze!WHY won't some poor swabbie upload this film ever?

  • i get to watch this film for school in history

  • So lucky you are !

This one of my favorites movie

music, sounds, pictures are so cool

  • The reason they deleted JA swimming isn't because Russell Crowe didn't look awesome (because he does) but because JA always swam in the nude, and its stupid that JA had on pants.. :P

  • MASTERPIECE

  • Where did you get all these deleted scenes? I had no idea they existed? Is there a cut of the film with them included?

  • It was on my dvd edition.

  • go put youre head in the ass of an elephant i dont mind

  • If that made any sense I may respect your opinion, but it didn't so I don't.

    PS

    Idiot.

  • thats the best part of the film i love when they play that song together its so cool

  • The ship l'Acheron depicted in this movie never existed.

The british had a fight with a US ship named USS Norfolk.

  • And Patrick O'Brian? God bless him...

  • patricl obrien god bless him amen greatest author of the 20th century easy as kiss my hand

  • @lvcivs11 what about Alexander Kent / with the Richard Bolitho series? I'm on #14 now...love it!

  • I love this movie and it's music....i have seen it so many times i have memorized what every main charactor says and when lol, it actually annoys my family, i watch it so much then i quote some of the lines :)

  • i hate the end though. i have seen it maybe 200 times already.

  • genius.

  • Thanks for this! The images combined with the music just sum up the essence of the movie most effectively!

  • Love the part when Stephen bumps his head! Classic!! Plus the part when Russell Crowe is swimming is pretty awesome, I couldn't choose between the too actors! They're both amazing and hot!! Awesome movie, reading the first book right now and I'm really liking it!

  • man, he looks so much like a friend of mine...xD

  • This is a bad version of this song though.

  • its not a song, its the 1st mov. of quintet "La musica nocturna de Madrid", by L.Boccherini

  • God I hate it when people address any random piece of music as a "song"

  • It bugs me too ; realize it comes from limited exposure to this music genre.

  • Cut us some slack buddy, there are some of us out there who appreciate that good music exists (classical, baroque music etc..) who don't know jack about how to read music or the proper terminology to discuss a piece of music intelligently by. I generally have enough good sense to keep my mouth shut around people who really know music, because I know I am ignorant. Just be glad that somebody has mustered the courage to take a few baby steps away from the top 40 toward legit music...

  • Comment removed

  • Also, they keep getting my language wrong...I'm Italian

"La musica notturna di Madrid" not

    "La musica nocturna de Madrid"

    I'm so fussy am I not? :D:D:D

  • Touche'. ; )

  • is it the music that's important or the classification of what it is?

    idiot

  • I'd say classification has its importance too...it's like calling a comic a book...plus, I believe you went a little too far by calling me an idiot only because I like to make so that things are called with their proper names and/or written and pronounciated correctly ...I didn't insult anybody

  • NOt everyone has your abilities nor does everyone want feel the need to use 12 grade grammer alot of comments are written in the heat of the moment and as long as you can understand there point. I like to just write and get my point across, if there is an error of spelling or punctiousetoie. I really dont care because i am in the moment. I feel i am correct on this point.

  • Sorry, it happens when you're a devoted musician (other than an idiot) and you see some piece of music with a title in your language being called what it is not and the spelling of your tongue being butchered. I'll repeat for the second time...I tend to get fussy when it comes to music...and when people insult me, which makes me tend to go further than what is needed, like right now...btw, I don't even understand where the problem is, I pointed out the fact quite friendly just to inform

  • lets not argue we are all sailormen here by the cut of our jib (i hope) death to the kings enemies or the queen i do live in the modern age hahaha lets just destroy then all and sail home to our wives and daughters and if we dont make it let them burn a ship and send us off in great fashion

  • refer to my response to danynicola in re: music vs classification

  • I thought this was the fourth movement, not the first.

  • Still one of a few films with reenactment qualities!

  • This film captured only a hundredth part of the genius of the books. Unfortunately the story of the friendship between Jack and Stephen was passed over with barely a mention. A shame as they could have made a truly brilliant film..........the 20 novels are amongst some of the best things I have ever read.

  • I think that this film captured one 20th part of the genius of the 20 novels... The story of the friendship between JA and SM needs a entire film, as needs a entire novel (the first of the serie).

  • Ahhhhhhh...

  • Amazing. i love this sequence.

  • thank theeeee!

  • i love this viedooooo:Dthanks so musch for posting @,#

  • haha Britainia rules the waves 'England expects that every man will do his duty' Lord Horatio Nelsons message to the fleet brfore the battle of Trafalger.poor Bonaparte.)

  • & poor Spain! The defeat of Trafalgar marked the sank of Spain as naval potency & the beginning of a tragic, nightmarish century

  • There has to be a sequel, definately. Great actors, great music! I watched this movie a year ago and watched it at least 10 times since.

  • Simplesmente maravilhoso...

  • WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE FOR THEM TO MAKE A SEQUEL TO THIS *sob*

Perfect vid: great music, great clips chosen (esp love how you used the deleted scenes), and great fusion of the two :D

  • I could have sworn they were going to. When the title has a subtitle I always expect a sequel. You know Master And Commander "The Far Side Of The World" Shame, would have made a good sequel.

  • It is based on a book. So they couldnt. But in the book it was against yanks

  • although I reckon this is a good maritime war film I still say hornblower is better because there's a bit more to it.

  • I too demand a sequel. Everyone needs to email PEter Weir and flood his inbox till he makes it

  • Nice use of the deleted scenes. Good job. I would love to see another MAC movie. Perhaps with some scenes ashore, with Sophie (Jack's wife) and Diana (Steven's beau). Diana is an uber- babe in the books.

  • this music is ... beautiful =D

  • I agree!

  • Just got one thing to tell you MAC +sequel=mega box office demand

  • my favourite move of all time

a sequel would enrich many lives!

  • i agree with you they should make a sequel it is also my favorite movie of all time =)
