  • Good job guys. It's easy to criticize anything, but I felt the mind of Beethoven come through from this performance... and that's what only matters.

  • Très bien! Dommage (pour les auditeurs) que l'alto ne soit pas à la bonne place.

Very good! Just the viola is not at the right place. It's a pity.

  • @SHINNIANLUX I agree completely! It's not so obvious in this recording, but the viola is at a disadvantage when it is facing away from the audience. This seating seems very popular in America, but unfortunately is increasingly evident in other countries too.

  • Another masterful performance! Come over to the UK soon please ? :-)

  • How is it that powerful emotion is expressed in a bunch of air vibrations like this?

  • After listening to all these Late Quartets in one day, it's almost difficult to come back down to earth and once again listen to the music that most people seem to like.

Though the one of the main purposes of music is to entertain and delight, so much of the more popular music just seems (though it does entertain and delight), after this, to be cheap and inauthentic.

  • I wish the viola's f-holes would face outwards

  • @maryaszaur I agree!

  • CHUCK NORRIS approves this quartet. XD

  • One of my favorites

  • Is there, by any chance, an mp3 or a CD of this?

  • Do you mean this specific recording? It's there on their webpage (just the first movement), along with Smetana, Haydn, and Schubert's Quartersatz. If you want a complete recording, I would suggest Melos Quartet (Deutsche Gramophone - either of the 2 cycles), or Vermeer Quartet on Teldec, Electra, or Guarineri (Analog) on RCA. You can also try Emerson on DG.

  • This is amazing. Not only the music, but just watching them experiance it is such a joy to watch.

I decided to watch this after reading about it's premeire on March 6th, My birthday. It wasn't as successful as it should've been. Beethoven blamed it on the violinist's shortness.

  • This is an outstanding performance. Thank you for not killing the opening maestoso with too much force. Herr Beethoven wrote it perfectly and you play it perfectly. Ensemble and intonation are tremendous. Good luck with your future endevours!

  • wonderful playing and yes would love to hear more.

  • Some more force on the accents at eg.3.49 would be nice, listen to the Quartetto Italiano...

  • This is a very under-rated piece, for me its the best of the late quartets.

  • @chrish12345 Me too! Each movement is stellar. The second movement is gorgeous and the last two have so much fantastic energy is and richness.

  • the first violinists violin looks different.

    cool though

i just heard this played by the Emerson quartet live. one of my absolute favorites.

  • Now, the Scherzando Vivace please 8)

    ... wonderfull ! Thank you !

  • So beautiful, and such great musicality in these young musicians. Please post the rest of op. 127! I'd love to hear op. 130 as well.

  • The more I hear of this group's playing, the more I am astounded by their authoritative playing of greatly contrasting examples of quartet music — Schubert, Bartok, Haydn, and now this late Beethoven. Discovering this group by pure chance has filled me with wonder and delight.

  • This is of course a great quartet, maybe it gets overlooked a bit compared to the next 3 as it is in the conventional 4 movements and has a generally more sunny disposition than those quartets too. The scale of this quartet though is perhaps bigger than it may seem to some as evidenced by this weighty first movement and the breadth of the slow movement for example.

  • No matter how many times I've heard this piece, my hair still stands on end. It's bold, joyful, fearless, and I always feel like I'm going into uncharted territory as soon as it begins. One characteristic of the late quartets seems to be instances of fairly simple sounding themes accompanied by unusually sophisticated harmonies and counterpoint.

  • @waverly2468 You're not doing it justice.

  • @waverly2468 I also 'love' this quartet and admire the special character of Beethoven's late ones in common, but I also like many parts of all the others, think maybe of great op 95 etc. etc. Have all their special fascination - ok, some movements or parts even more than others, and this also every time depending of the listener's mood when listening to them ...

  • Thank you. I am surprised that there is no full upload of this wonderful work yet on youtube. (Maybe there is, I just can't find it!) Please let us hear the rest.

    正直、あまり遠慮しないで、3:20にかけてなんかもっとメチャクチャ豪快に盛り上げてくれたら嬉しかったです、そういう下品なのが好きなものですから^^;

    (第二ヴァイオリンを弾いている方が超可愛いので少し悔しいのです... )

  • This Quartet such Splendid piece indeed and Beethoven still and still want to put such remarkable matter in this work since the beginnig and after while he back once again to make sure its completely done

  • this 1st mov. avoids the development to emphasize on ornaments, there´s sort of intimate confession, we enter with this quartett into the last series of the mature Beethoven , long live ludwig van

  • Die Interpretation hat Zug. Wann gibt es d e n 2. Satz?
