Take a close look at those hats that the Stars are wearing. It is a simple patch that could be affixed, no matter who the winner! I had one, My Stars logo fell off after about a year, just in time to see the cup switch hands to Martin and Co. Just thought I'd throw that note-worthy observation in there, guess Bettman's leauge was broke back then as well, lol!
i've said this b4 in another vid. even if that brett hull goal was called off, the sabres still needed to score a goal to win that game. and aafter that, they would have had to win another game...in dallas. and proof that these guys deserved it, in my opinion, look at where this team went the next season: the stanley cup final. so whether or not you think that goal should count, i stand by that dallas was certainly the better team.
@makkikwakki, as for me, I cried when he took the Cup. A life long dream at the tender age of 29, can't go wrong with that! Modano is a champ, no matter the sweater he wears!
Stars rule, but how no playoffs last year after West finals the year before? I set it off for them by winning 3 cups in the NHL 09 videogame! I'm the only Stars fan in NY! Since '94
how did you get this footage? it looks like your just using a personal handheld videocamera. its amazing footage...do you know players or just one lucky person to get in the locker room?
Player with puck possession can be in the crease. The rebound off Hasek didn't change Hull's possession. Learn hockey rules before looking like a moron saying "BUFFALO GOT ROBBED!"...
When you shoot the puck your pushing it off of your stick into a place that is beyond an area of your control, Hull did not have possession of the puck once it left his stick for the first time. Saying that he had possession of it all along is bullshit
Its not like I'm expressing a personal view here, man. Its a well known and agreed fact that his possession of the puck didn't change. Read up on it. It isn't bullshit. You and all the other pissed off Buffalo fans make yourself look like fools by just saying what you think.
"Hull had possession and control of the puck. The rebound off the goalie does not change anything. It is his puck then to shoot and score albeit a foot may or may not be in the crease prior to. Did he or did he not have possession and control? Our view was yes, he did. He played the puck from his foot to his stick, shot and scored." --quote from Bryan Lewis, NHL Supervisor of Officials.
Also, ESPN is by far the worst sports coverage when it comes to hockey.
-Obviously an NHL official is going go along with it.
-Up until 2004 Espn was to hockey what versus is to it right now.
-Goals similar to Hull's were called off before the rule was changed
-Only people who hate the sabres with a passion and stars fans say that its a legal goal, Ive been on neutral sites like hockeybuzz where the majority have discussed and agreed it was no goal.
Rephrase your comment better. Only people who hate the Stars (which is pretty much the entire league, admit it) thought it was a no goal. Plenty of sports commentators and even Wayne Gretzky thought it was a goal.
if wayne said no there would be an uproar. Wayne never goes against the grain. I say no goal ... However there was no way they could wave off the goal. Colossal mistake that rule was. Stil the Stars would have won anyhow
In the end what does it really matter? We could go back and forth all day about whether or not it was a goal.
Even if the goal had been wiped out we likely wouldn't have won game 7 in dallas. Even though the sabres put up a good fight the stars were the better team.
that's what's sad about the entire thing. Buffalo fans act like it was a given that they would've won if that goal was disallowed. How do they know they would've won a game 7 in Dallas or scored later that night. Offensively the Stars were ridiculously more talented than the Sabres, and we had a goalie that was playing just as hot as theirs at that point.
@DWareFTW, no truer words ever typed on Y.T! What 'could' have bee, 'should' have been and 'may' have been, was done along time ago! In the post Modano era, there is a new expectation, I wanna see some results!
@videotransmission They changed the rule because of the controversy, not because it was a mistake. The rule likely would have been changed anyways it was pretty unpopular. Hull's foot was in the crease but he was the shooter and he had possession. Making it legal.

Sure, the goal may be disputed but what is not disputed is the fact that the Dallas Stars are the 1999 Stanley Cup Champions.

A tarnished cup.......skate in the crease! Buffalo got robbed! They even changed the rule the next year to cover up the huge mistake by the NHL.

It's so well agreed upon eh? They why is it on #5 on espn's worst calls in sports history?

-Only people who hate the sabres with a passion and stars fans say that its a legal goal, Ive been on neutral sites like hockeybuzz where the majority have discussed and agreed it was no goal.
