  • He speaks has if he says things...yet all I see is :

"That movie was crap, but I got money for it!,so fuck everyone!"

Well...the series kinda warned in advance for the movie(The play on Ember island)

  • wow...you should have never made it your own.....

  • The sad thing about the man was that he thought he made an epic movie where the rest of the world hates it!

  • Newsflash M. Knight: If the features in the anime are too "ambiguous" for you then why don't you try LOOKING AT THEIR CLOTHING! When I was watching the show I could tell looking at their clothing from which Asian culture it originated. The show has Tibetan style clothing, Chinese style clothing, Japanese styles, even Korean style clothing. Take a look past the face of the person and you may see something worthwhile M. Night. Besides that some characters like Azula did have Asian like eyes.

  • Dude, all you complain and talk so much shit. Keep to your cartoons then, whiny little babies.

  • @bellaafoxx, this was an iconic cartoon and the best that nickelodeon has and will ever come up with. This mans job, in our perspective, was to bring the story to a more realistic scale. We have every right to complain, he butchered it so badly that the main characters name wasn't even pronounced correctly! Don't bash us, we're just upset that such an incredible cartoon, with fantastic characters and an enjoyable story line was destroyed so completely.

  • me watching this: "....bullshit....no...no they weren't....yeah that means they were like, don't fucking do that......yeah try REALLY fucking lost.....what?....what?....r u high?...fuck this video i can't handle this...*2.04*

  • LOL I didnt even watch the whole movie. the first 20 min were painful to watch so I skipped abit in and it got EVEN worse.

You should be suied for desecrating this wonderful story.

btw, "Ong" real name is "A-ng" and Katara and Sokka are not Caucasian......

AND ffs Fire nation are not Iranian......did you even bother to watch the show????

  • He wants a bravo. Shyamalan, you're name will go down in history as the funniest director who ever directed serious films.

  • Meh. I can see how the race thing is valid. But I still wonder if he actually watched the show, or just googled it.

  • Aang!! His name is Aang not Ahng!!

  • 3 films!? Not by you mate

  • When I got wind of a live action version of the Last Airbender I was excited. UNTIL I found out who directed it. The Last Airbender could have been an epic movie! Rather than cramming the whole of the series into one film and losing so much of the story and character development (not to mention characters completely cut out), perhaps you should have considered making it a 2 part movie. I would rather have seen a "to be continued" and have the story done well than see this garbage you created

  • why did u get the names wrong?

aang not ong? iroh nor ero!!!

  • "The most culturally diverse movie of all time" ---facepalm

  • o-m-g did he just say SECOND film???

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO T__T

  • honestly the racial thing was the only thing I liked about the movie. I liked how every race was under a different element. This politically correct bs is nonsense.

There were no black people though? Earth should have been black people and yellow should have been asian. The only thing that sucks about that is that there is that unfortunate racist association with the color yellow. But air being shaolin-esque monks, c'mon.

  • lol. He is so right. No asian does look like their characters on the show. I mean the characters on the show look more american than the race they are suppose to be.

  • I'll bite your face c*nt :D

    Dear Mr M.Night Shyamalamanamamen~

The Last Airbender has to be the worst movies I have seen in a while. Get fucked.

    Love, Tsune xo

  • This movie pissed me off in so many ways. Probably the most annoying, was the mispronounciation of names. Aang becomes Ong (like bong), Iroh becomes Ee-roh, Sokka (Sah-ka) becomes Soh-ka. This bugged me way more than the aweful acting by the kids, the piss poor writing, and the lack of any character or plot development (the movie just went from scene to scene with things happening, but you don't really understand why stuff is happening).

  • How does he keep getting funding for films?

When I first heard he would make the Avatar film, I knew he would screw it up. And what's sad is that the creators allowed him to do this, so the blame doesn't rest solely on him.

  • the movie SUCKED ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, you fucked it UP.

  • i hope his 72 virgins rape him instead. fucking muslim.

  • .... "Culturally diverse"?

  • what a disappointment, he needs to be slapped in the face for making a shitty movie out of amazing series

  • Can someone please punch him in the face and tell him he can't direct. Somebody better remake this movie into a better one. One that us fans will like

  • wow did u film this yourself???

  • why can't he say their names right?

how were the original creators okay with this?

  • he can't even say Aang right

  • @BrandonHasAChannel

Yes, I do. I know they were involved during the writing of the script and early parts. But during the filming they weren't there. He went on his own. He even says so.

  • 6:08 Don't you just want to punch him in the face, pull out his tongue and then toss it in a blender?

  • normally I would write a response to all the B*llshit M night says in his interviews...But I don't think I have to, most stuff is quite obvious.

  • peter jackson should have directed the movie

  • this interview sounds like as big of a prick as M does

  • hmmm at least hes adding in black folks XDD thought he was gonna leave us out

  • @tjdragoon Well, I hope you're happy with the five seconds of screen time that the black extras got in that MONTAGE. Oh, and Monk Gyatso was black for some reason and didn't even have any lines in his flashback, LOL! Diversity, right?

  • @PUFFYsaidgo LOL yea but its better than no screen time XD

  • @tjdragoon At least they weren't turned stupid like the Asians.

"Earthbenders! There is dirt BENEATH YOUR FEET!"

  • @PUFFYsaidgo lol i kinda wonder what kind of benders we'll be... the indians were fire, asians were earth and the native americans were water, and the one black monk was an airbender... would we be air? hmmm

  • @tjdragoon You'd be an Earthbender. Those black people were in the Earth Kingdom. Manoj literally said that since it's big, he'd put black people in the Earth Kingdom in a small section. He basically implied that they were indeed tokens and were the last racial decision. LOL, diversity!

Yeah, Monk Gyatso didn't make sense at all. So black people cn bend Earth AND Air? You guys are lucky! I think his reason was that since Noah "looked" mixed, everyone in the Air Nation would be. But I thought

  • [CONTINUED] that that meant each individual Airbender would be at least biracial, but apparently not. Monk Gyatso looked mostly black (the actor could have other backgrounds from past ancestors).

Back to the black Earth Kingdom thing. Manoj said he'd make the Earth Kingdom Asian, but that since it's big, he's have a small section of "African-Americans" (they're the only ones referred to as Americans for some reason). Yeah, that totally sounded planned.

  • [CONTINUED] Also, LOL, none of the Native Americans were benders. Katara was the only one in the Southern Tribe and she's white. The whole Northern Tribe is white and has more benders. Don't you know? The Inuit Greenland locals are only good enough for set decoration.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo lol i wonder where that leaves the latin ppl

  • @tjdragoon "Boy buying fruit #1" and "Girl with robe #4."

It's just like with "Earthbending Boy" and "Earthbending Father," the high profile roles for the East Asian actors. They didn't even get names even though they're diluted versions of Haru and his father.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo lol... but eventhough the movie was bad, i kinda cant wait for a second movie in hopes he and the creators would team up for a better script

  • @tjdragoon It's Shyamalan. That will never happen. He likes to do things himself. I'd like for this trilogy to die after the first movie, and if there "has" to be a live action Avatar movie, then have someone actually competent to do it in at least ten years. Otherwise, the show already exists. What's the point of a live action movie anyway? I'd rather there be an animated film like about Zuko looking for his mother.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo true.... but i wonder when they are releasing book: air

  • @tjdragoon They won't. But there will be a mini-series to be aired next year. It'll follow the next Avatar, a Waterbender from the Southern Tribe. She's already mastered every element except Air. She'll learn that from Katara and Aang's son, Tenzin. It's called Avatar: Legend of Korra and will be twelve episodes long.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo I seriously hope tha's true

  • @fowad27 Look it up.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo "It will involve Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko." YES.

  • @tjdragoon M night said that the air nomads get hispanics, since they are nomadic and move migrate from place to place, so they pick up all the extra races, so to speak.

  • @fowad27 lol nomads FTW XD..... do you know the date of the release of the new avatar

  • @tjdragoon It says on wikipedia, "a series based on Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently in development at Nickelodeon and due for release in 2011." I can't wait. Those folks are geniuses.

  • " I don't know any Asian kid that looks like UNG"

    Uh... huh.....

  • @anythingnew because the english short a is a rare sound. still bugged me though. and if he's going to do that, he should go all the way, call skka soke-kah, rather than sokuh, and call yue yru-e instead of yoo-ay

  • Your movie sucked. Thats why people people don't say bravo at your shitty movie.

  • go back to bollywood, he is an over rated director like bryan singer, both think theyre the next scorsese and oliver stone , lol, m. night and singer should do anal sex

  • How vain does a director have to be to not see all the warning signs that this movie would be a total failure?

  • YOU GODDAMN COCK MUNCHER! I WANT TO TEAR HIM LIMB FROM LIMB!

  • this guy is such a fucking narcissist... he thinks everything he does is fucking epic and artistic, compares himself to big directors and compares that crap of a movie to star wars and lord of the rings? give me a fucking break this guy needs to take his head out of his ass and stop pretending to be the victim when people hate on his horrible movies.. he should be a real man and take the blame and admit hes a terrible director AND STOP MAKING MOVIES... this prick pisses me off.

  • @EjPwned he shouldn't feel a need to tiptoe about comparing a big budget movie he made to a big-budget movie another big-name director made.

  • I always thought M. Nigh Shyamalan was this 40-year old man that speaks very proper. He sounds like a pre-teen, and I only watched the last minute and a half.

  • FUCK YOU Shyamalan, how the FUCK can you mess up this movie when everybody loved the show.

  • shyamalan you cocky cock!!!!

  • Just hearing him mispronounce the names "Iroh" and "Sokka" as if Avatar: The Last Airbender was HIS brainchild makes me mad! Just because he considers himself "an appropriate Asian" doesn't give him the right to take a big crap over someone else's successful creation. I'm glad his movie is a massive fail.

  • @Ronnet So Manoj will eat himself? He's the racebender.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo That he is, but 'racebenders' is also the collective name for those who hated the movie long before its release due to the racebending done by M. Night. Not that it really matters now, racebender or not everyone hates this abomination.

  • @Ronnet It's a common misconception. "Racebenders" would be the people who do the actual racebending. The definition is right in the word itself. Anyone opposed to that practice would be an antiracebender.

It's still quite possible that this movie may get a sequel. Stranger things have happened. In that case, antiracebenders will most likely still have more work to do if the same racebending thing continues. Knowing Manoj, he'll get Tom Hanks to play Guru Pathik. After all, according to him,

  • [CONTINUED] the characters were ambiguous (read: "white").

  • I read that this movie sucked.

  • By the way, it's not entirely "anime" because its an American animated television series. "Anime" is just an influence in the making of Avatar: The last Airbender. So he should not have any excuse on the "anime" look of the characters because I'm sure you can tell what race they represent if you look at their entire character, rather than their eyes.

  • I realize it's more about "what works for me", "my vibe", "this worked that way for me", "this felt that way to me", me, me me. It's not about Mr. Shyamalan, it's about sticking with the original story that everyone loved and expected to get out of the movie. He should of focused more on keeping the story line (and name pronounciations!) accurate to the tv show than what he prefered because most of the people that plan on watching this movie are people that have seen and liked the tv show.

  • @7whitebutterflies

Look, I respect the fans who only want what the show had, because I love the show. I watched it eight times. I still put it on late at night. But I want from the movie is NOT a carbon copy. I don't just want the same old thing. I want something a little different. If I want the show's humor or darkness, I can watch the show. I want the movie to give me something new. He could have done better, but a movie isn't going to be the same as the series.

  • Shyamalan, you're a hack. Airbender was a terrible movie. Kthxbai.

If only I could tell that to his face. Maybe someday I'll get a chance.

Egotistical little fuck. And it's not so much that he's egotistical. It's the fact that he has no right to be egotistical.

  • @000BatteredRose000

And when YOU make a movie based on a hit tv series you can finally get the praise you deserve. Good luck with it. I'm rooting for you.

  • @000BatteredRose000 Can you elaborate on that please? "No right to be egoistical".

  • 0:29 - 0:40

Dumbass where did that get you...a fuck up movie. Smh...

  • This man is conceited and thinks everything he does is amazing. He has a big head and someone in the movie business needs to let him know, you got some good ones but your focus to make a good movie is off. You keep sloping things together because you think there is no need to prove yourself anymore and no need to put as much work as you did for your earlier films.

  • I don't care about race great that you put mutlicultured people in it but to make everyone in the film stupid is just horrifying. If someone uses a source of fire that they cant start on thier own, a smart person would know all I have to do is put out that fire then they are powerless. Katara a waterbender sits there and lets someone light grass on fire and doesn't do anything until he throws some at her and still she doesn't put out the fire she lets him keep throwing until she gets beat.

  • i know a lot of 15 year olds or so that sound older thn him, ... and there it goes again.. sowka! might aswell change the spelling to sowka from sokka.

  • "I'm PISSED at anybody who would say anything other than BRAVO and looking at TLA as a culturally-diverse movie," "You look at the movie poster that has Noah and Dev on it, back to back, and MY NAME over it and not say Wow this is awesome." OMG. This guy is so full of himself! Who cares about your freakin name?!?! You're not as significant as you think, Shyamalan. haha

  • m. night sounds like a chipmunk. "the process wooaass..."

  • ooh and there's this one scene with the earthbenders and the one little rock thing.. Lol.. If you TRUY sAW the movie.. You'll see that those 5-6 benders CREATED THE WALL not the rock.. When the camara moves as the rock goes you'll see at the bottom of the screen ONE earthbender MOVING it.. People really should WATCH the movie.. Lol.. M. Night did an awesome job !!

  • @miangel24 I watched it, and it was stupid. That scene, especially. Yeah, I get that that's what happened, but tell me this: WHY are the group of Earthbenders STILL dancing AFTER the wall was created? That scene was a mess! If Manoj wasn't so busy cameoing in that scene he might've made it less confusing.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo It's not dancing.. It's some sort of marcial arts.. It looked awesome but someone like you wouldn't apreciate it.. And it wasn't at all confusing to me.. Maybe people went into the movie looking for exactly what's on the show.. But I knew it wouldt be like that.. But I understand if it's confusing to you (:

  • @miangel24 Then explain why they were still dancing AFTER the wall was made. You seem to just say that it's confusing to others and not to yourself, yet you don't explain what REALLY happened. "Hey, we just made a wall to protect you. Now we'll keep dancing and you won't get to see WHY we're still dancing."

  • @miangel24 OMGZ WTF?? lolololo brb kthx OMG

  • @miangel24 That wasn't martial arts it was a useless dance that didn't even contribute to the movie. The martial arts that were drawn by hand in the show were way better than anything in this movie and that's a fact.

  • This movie is amazing.. Very inspiring.. And I love the multicultural feel to it.. The diversity is great and I like how the names change to correct pronounciation.. He did aa very good job..and Dev Patel, jackson, Nicola, Noah and the guy who played iroh and welleveryone did a good job.. (: the fighting scenes were awesome.. Looking fwd for book 2 !!

  • @miangel24 Correct pronunciation? Says who? Manoj only said that he made the names sound "More Asian," but there are so many Asain languages and they don't all sound the same. He's probably making them all pronounced Hindi.

  • @PUFFYsaidgo Well if it wasntcorrect it still sounded good.. The movie is asian oriented right..so yeah I think it made it appropriate (: and the names didn't sound all that bad.. (:

  • @jjaycallejas i agreee reboot this moviee nowww!! heee messed up the entire movie i want m. night shymalan deported and back to his hometown where they can blow his ass UP!!!!! :D

  • maybe- he shouldnt have made it his own.

I cry for the original cartoon- I cry. :(

  • are these interviews before or after the movie came out?

  • I feel bad for the guy. A lot. Fans are over-reacting, critics hate him, he has the pressure of Paramount's huge budget on him when the movie might not make enough. He spent 3 years on the movie and millions of dollars, and he's ready for 4 more hard-working years, and now most people hate it? It makes me sad. Just watch him, now that the movie's premeired, he has dark circles and is way less energetic. He needs a break. I hope the next two are big successes.

  • @snickers80495 my thoughts exactly

  • You ripped the star wars titles. Then you asked for help to George Lucas for the animation, because your zero about computers. Oh and you tried to compare with the director of the Lord of the Rings. OMG this man is a totally an arrogant person. Lord of The Rings was a real master piece.

  • NO! Why did you make it your own! As soon as you made it your own it lost all aspects of the original series.

  • you suck shyamala...

  • He does know that the show isn't anime right? Its actually based on multiple asian races. Seriously:

Earth Kingdom: Mostly Asian. (Chines, Indian, Japanese, Korean, ect.) Also Middle Eastern.

    Air Nomads: Asian/Caucasian.

Water Tribes: Inuit. Possibly African. Native American. Something with Melanin!

    Fire Nation: Asian/Caucasian.

Mix it up like that so that. The show is already culturally diverse. It worked well, and you kinda screwed it up.

  • @dratinifan13 But it's anime style. I've watched a lot of anime and this IS anime style because it was animated in a Korean Animation Company.

Already culturally diverse? Tell that to the Racebenders who thinks and wanted EVERYONE in the movie to be Asian.

  • @DPCrazyXD Well in the show, they were all kinda implied to be based off of asian races. I'm black. I shouldn't get too involved with Asian debates, but I believe that a more asian cast would've been more unique.

  • @dratinifan13 Thats true that the show was based off asian culture but as far as a Movie goes it's a bit more compicated. I found it more unique when he made each nation a different race then have then all one race since this a whole new world. It also shows the problems we have today like discrimination and how we separate ourselves. Anyways 70% of the cast in this movie IS Asian.

I'm comfident that Noah Ringer was casted for a reason and not primarly cause he's white.

  • @DPCrazyXD Personally I'm not to caring about the Fire nation or even Aang. But the show was still every racially diverse and they had a nice set up. The fact is that the character's races, bad dialogue, rushed paced, bad acting, and pronunciations not being the same as the original series are distracting to the movie watcher and it becomes an overall bad experience. CGI was great don't get me wrong, but that can't redeem the whole movie.

  • @dratinifan13 Yeah I agree with you on that one. Dialogue needed more work, M Night hadn't ever wrote a script like this cause he always writes his own stories. I personally liked the acting, I was really worried about Noah's acting but he turned out to be very likable. Dev Patel was amazing. And I admit I was annoyed with the name pronunciations (even it's the right way to pronounce it) and fast pacing at first but then I didn't bother me anymore. It's very entertaining, fight scenes are epic.

  • @DPCrazyXD I went into the movie neutral. I didn't know if it was DB Evolution, or Harry Potter. (Bad Adaption-Good Adaption) I just wanted to see it for myself. Personally the things that distracted me as I said before was kind of a turn off and made me feel...bored. It may be because I grew up on DBZ that I'm already used to action scenes but I just couldn't pay attention to them...twas dull I'm afraid. Though I do admit that Dev Patel and the man who played "EROH" were pretty good.

  • @DPCrazyXD

    1. It's Japanese style because it was animated in Korea? I guess most American cartoons are Japanese style now, like the Simpsons.

    2. You mean ANTIracebenders.

    3. You do realize that Asians ARE culturally diverse, right? Compare Chinese culture to Japanese culture, or Chinese culture to Indian culture. They're all Asian, but OMGZ DIER NOT DA SAMEZ WTF?

  • @dratinifan13 There were no white people in the show. There were no Africans in the Water Tribes. Sorry. They were all Asian or Mongoloid (and not just East Asian either, as some people think). The Sun Warriors were mezo-American.

  • DON'T MAKE A SECOND MOVIE!

somebody please stop him now before it's to late!

  • God...what a friggin tool.

  • the whole 'culturally balanced" thing he talks about sounds like a cop out to me. on all accounts he controlled casting from the beginning and he had jesse mccartney as zuko til he dropped, not m night cutting him. apperantly, he casted the fire nation according to dev patel, by that logic the entire cast would have been 'caucasian'. the 'cultural balance' bit m night fathomed was cuz of the 'racebending' fiasco. his 'equal opportunity' argument doesnt hold water since the OG cast was white.

  • Shyamalan should of had the creators DURING the filming of the movie not before. No one knows the Avatar gang more than the creators of the show. I think if the creators were invole during the filiming it would be alot different.

  • @FrenchFlute

Doubt it. Would be nice but their rights were bought. The script is in the hands of the studios, producers, and mainly Shyamalan. He brought an Asian anime and distorted it for a western audience. What is funny is that this they would prefer the original version not an Americanized cast.

  • @rambam77

Right. Because Avatar is an Asian anime. It wasn't created by Americans. It's totally Asian.

  • @FrenchFlute The film was okay but he should of gotten help on the writing.

  • @FrenchFlute

Not sure. The creators most likely got paid alot to take liberties with their creative freedom and concept of the series. Doubt they would risk their paycheck and come out against the film. Anyone have links on their reactions.

  • @FrenchFlute they were involved dont you know anything about this fucking movie man

  • (-_-)...fuck m night.....if your not gonna do it by the book then don't touch it...don't fix something thats not broken....id rather it stay a show now

  • i really hate how he says Sokka and Aang. there names have been said sooooo many times throughout avatar the animated series, why does he say it like that???

  • @jizno366 He explains in the interview (as it's been explained for months on the web) that he did it because that's the correct Asian pronounciation. And oh yea, it's his movie.

  • @snickers80495

Hes gotten a break time and time again. He even having the shot to make this film was his big break. To bad he failed, cause this is a horrible movie.

  • mediterranean?! hahahahahah

  • I loved the movie and hope the trilogy happens no matter what the reviews say. I agree with Night Shyamalan that this movie was very racially/ethnically diverse and I loved that aspect of it.

  • YEAH M. Night!!!!! PWN those racebenders!!!!! :D

  • reboot anyone? they did it to the hulk and that worked out just fine.

  • @jjaycallejas Co-signing it.

  • Go ahead Shyamalan, don't give up! You're on of the most talented artists in Hollywood, i'm 100% waiting for TLA here.

  • I really hope that the trilogy happens, I really really loved this movie.

    M. Night FTW!!!!!!!!!!

  • part 3?

  • @rancorslayer184 It's only a two part interview, sorry.

  • @rancorslayer184 There's a audio review if you subscribe to SlashFilm on iTunes.
