  • could have been the greatest aircraft ever built, now just scrap metal

  • the uk goverment sell out all the time thats the way it is , any thing thats world beating they sell ! nothing changes , just others gloat !

  • Christ, what the fuck has labour done to this country...

  • Your obsolete from birth comment confuses me . The RAF had to wait till the Tornado entered service in the early 80s for a strike aircraft that could operate at high and low altitude.

  • @cyclekarl

The f111 was superior, and even then, it was useless. Both aircraft were built for no practical purpose at that point. They needed to be scrapped. like it or not.

  • @omgwtfbbqstfu The F-111 was certainly not useless. The RAAF has only just retired it. It remained the most effective and fastest low level long range precision strike aircraft in the world up until its retirement. It performed outstandingly in the Libya strike in 1986 and in the 1st Gulf War it proved an outstanding success (precision strike, bunker busting GBU-28, tank plinking) even for a relatively old airframe. It would have been a crucial aircraft has the Cold War turned hot.

  • What a fucking plane. British.

  • Don't be too sad about the past - just make sure we get it right this time e.g.

    skylon (reaction engines co uk)

  • It's interesting that since the late 1950s, this countrys output in the aircraft industry has declined is it not, however along with 1965, 1957 was anouther bad year for British aircraft manufacturing and development, namely the 1957 White Paper produced by Duncan Sandeys I think it was

  • Now Bee Beaumont, THERE'S a guy for you, the UK's Chuck Yeager.

Anyone who's career can survive using a Hurricane to take a WRAF to a dance has to be something.

RIP Bee, you really were the last of the best.

  • Beauful plane , funny how the US Navys Vigilante shares some lines.

    Both were short -lived.

  • whats most interesting about this video is the terrain. Farnborough or any BAC field of the time it is not. It's either Scotland or the USA.

  • That is my favorite airplane

  • Shame on the Americans again and shame on us for doing what they say.

  • for a price... and we are still paying for it. yanky trader

  • No, congratulations to the Americans for excellent manipulation of a competitor, the rest you have right.

  • and don't forget the air craft carries cancelled ,good old labour government ,,CRAP,,

  • Denis Healey was the Minister of Defence in 1965, when TSR.2 was abandoned, under Harold Wilson;s Labour govornmant. He also cancelled a super sonic Harrier varient called P.1154 and a Hawker Siddely STOL transport. Healey was a COMPLETE dick head to say the bare minimum least.

  • I like to imagine it in full livery and squadron colours...the way it should have looked...completed and in service.

  • This would have been the livery colours. Britains NUCLEAR bomber fleet at this time was white with pale roundels and lettering. The cammo livery came in a little later, though given the delays etc it could have entered service in the later colours.

  • In addition to cancelling TSR2, the Labour government eliminated Bomber Command. This can be found on a YouTube video.

  • wonderful film of a marvelous aircraft first footage of TSR2 i've ever seen - better than photographs in books. thanks

when this was cancelled we ordered the F1-11 didn`t recieve that either! shame to use this actual aircraft for target practice on maplin sands.

  • It looked right, it was right. Thanks for posting the video, from one of a generation who grew up with confused governments and insane decisions :0(

  • a broke nation-germans and japaneeze-the instigators and murderers of ww2,the merikans chose to restore-leaving the brits 2 pay back every penny wiv interest that took 50 yrs 2 repay!-some ally!and the yanks refused 2 bail us out again claiming we could not afford the tsr2 programme-they were right and we the uk got another expensive, extortional loan, and the loss of the worlds most advanced aero-idustry.

  • Hear, hear, couldn't agree more. The deferal of the repayment of this loan was used to influence the cancellation of the Suez invasion. I wonder if they will hand over the bases in the carribean when their time is up on Lend Lease?

  • @cavalier080854

Wrong, the tsr2 was obsolete from its birth. Even the f111 could hold more bombs and even had a gun. Nuclear ballistic missiles made the reason for both aircraft obsolete anyways. The tsr2 was an ungainly almost 100 foot aircraft meant for super sonic nuclear strikes, an expensive and unpractical aircraft that served no purpose in reality. Like it or not it wasn't even that advanced, other planes like the valkyrie were also cancelled.

  • @terencehooper

You must be joking, you got the lives of hundreds of thousands of americans no charge. 2% interest over 50 years with materials kept valued at 10 cents on the dollar, with payment deferred several times as well. You got the best loan ever, never mind the free lives and help along with it. Whining about it is simply bad form, you were not entitled to anything, let alone others funding your former empire and empire aspirations. You couldn't afford the tsr2 program, thats a fact.

  • @omgwtfbbqstfu We got the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans? What the fuck are you on about? You chose nuetrality, because of the huge support for the Nazis in America. If Germany hadn't declared war on the USA, we and the Soviet Union would have had to manage without you. Bastard, learn some history.

  • @TheFunkadelicFan

You must be smoking something because there were about as many brown shirts in the uk as in the us, and there were far more germans living in the us regardless. Neutrality was because of anti war sentiment which had basically the same slogans and reasons as todays anti war movement. Learn some history yourself. The us had bailed you out not that long before as well, costing countless lives

  • @omgwtfbbqstfu You are either fantastically ill-informed about your own country's history, or you are deliberately baiting the british for some unknown, nefarious reason known only to yourself. If it's the latter, well done, you've succeeded.

  • Sadly we will never know for sure if she would of been as great as is said but I do know Test Pilot Roland Bee Beamont never missed a chance to slam the Goverment for her cancellation he mentions her in all his books regardless of the subject.A great Pilot he had absoloute faith in the TSR2 Eagle so I guess she would of been great. Thanks for the video.

  • cool - first footage of tsr2 i've ever seen - usually just pix in books etc! Thanks! we'll never know if it would have been as good as it's claimed, but god I wish it'd been given it's chance

  • Excellent footage
