  • I really wish he'd play El Gallo in the Times Square production... He would do an incredible job. (Nothing beats Orbach though)

  • I would pay SO much to see him play El Gallo in the Fantasticks.

  • I own Nothing...Sounds so depressing:P:P

  • l love this song john barrowman is such a great singer i love him :)

  • I adore Barrowman, and I've always loved this song.

  • Amazing rendition of this song. I first heard it when I saw The Fantasticks many years ago. The show is the longest running theatrical performance (technically it's still "Off Broadway") but it's had to believe it opened in 1960.

I was in England a few years ago and saw it in the "West End" (England's equivalent of Broadway) and it was even better than the original. Finally heard John Barrowman live a couple years later. Now my favorite version of the song.

  • 3 people obviously dont have anything to remember . . . . .

  • who'd thunk it? Captn Jack?

  • Good effort, John but no one owned this song like Jerry Orbach who introduced it to the world as a member of the original cast of the off-Broadway production. When Orbach sang it, it wasn't just a song but a way of life. I still miss him.

  • YOUR KIDDING ME? TORCHWOOD HUNK? HE CAN SING TOO???O.O I knew i liked him but ..... Oh My God.....sigh.....why dose he keep getting better? Who cares.

  • @Chynaash

have you seen him on their Ice Dancing with the stars-esque show? I mean, John Barrowman can do ANYthing.

  • Oh ,sweet ,sweet ,i love this music ,congratulations ,Sofia.

  • we r singing this in chior and it doesnt really work..... its better when its just one person singing it.... like john barrowman!!! i love him!!!!

  • He has a good voice. I had never heard of him...

  • Damn!!! This was good. If your are down and out this song will pick you up rihgt away. I love Jerry Orbachs version too (the original)

  • I directed THE FANTASTICKS back in the '70s, it is such a simple , beautiful show with a very deep message. I sure wish I had John Barrowman playing this role. His voice is so pure and that is one of the underlying messages of the play. Bravo John.

  • John Barrowman has a musical heart very like mine, I love all his music

  • I love him, his music, his acting, i love everything he does and my mobile is mostly filled with music, photos and videos of John Barrowman.

  • @Rejectorz read his books, I generally don't read autobiographies but his are enjoyable... it's like you and he are sitting in the living room barefooted with music in the background and drinks a-flowin' while he tells stories that you can't help but smile at - and don't skip the footnotes they're great! I skipped right to them with each turn of the page and then scanned up to read what they were about.

  • I've watched John Barrowman on _Doctor Who_ and _Torchwood_, but this is the first time I've heard him sing. There appears to be no end to his talent. Good for you, John Barrowman!

  • I saw this on the Musical presentation that BBC put on... I always wondered if there was a full clip (they did a medley). Thank you so much for putting these up!

  • patty page is the one I learned it from which to me was the best

  • Great rendition, as usually... but could anyone tell me where is this song from or who was its first singer, please?

  • From the broadway play The Fantasticks and I believe Jerry Orbach sang it first.

Wonderful play about a traveling Circus and a young couple in love.

Won't tell you it all but it is out on d.v.d to watch.

Wonderful play and it reminds us all of a kinder, gentler time of life.

  • Thanks a lot happymike44! I'll try to get the dvd. Greetings from Spain

  • Your welcome from the United States.

    Happymike44

  • Jerry Orbach was the first of many lead actors who sang this during the 40+ year run of the Fantastics but the song is generally associated with Ed Ames, who had a hit record of it in the mid-60's. Roy Orbison and Andy Williams also did fantastic versions of it that were never released as singles
