I've always wondered what Bowie says after the phone rings at the end of Life On Mars? Any ideas? It cuts off before he speaks on this upload, need to listen to the song. Sounds to me like "why don't we have some more", but probably isn't.
Charming, indeed. I saw the Spiders from Mars at the Hollywood Palladium in what, '73. Pretty good - and I lost interest in this skilled cabaret singer songwriter until he brought in Eno for the Berlin sessions. Blew my mind. Then I saw him at an A.A. meeting on a Sunday morning in the early 90s. I was right behind him in the coffee line, waddya say in a moment like that? "I like your work, man".
lol I remember hearing it... mostly cos I do this thing to songs where when they fade out I like to turn them up and you can hear something that sounds really out of place, whether its a hidden lyric for filler or something.
This interview is so nice! He's so warm, enthusiastic about his own work and his past; and one thing will never stop: when he smiles or laughs he's still able to lighten up a whole world in one second!
It's amazing how patient he is about getting the same questions in every interview, decade after decade. I mean, he still manage to act like this alination-question is "new" and not something he's been explaining ten tousands times already.
@howltothemoon101 I don't think we are going to see anything new from Bowie,I truly believe he's retired. I pains me to say this believe me. JMO anyway.
I read that David Bowie never believed in removing accidents that others would have viewed as mistakes, such as the ringing phones at the end of this song. But that he saw them as meant to be because they happened. That's artistic thinking...right? David Bowie is amazing!! I just love him. He so much over shadows and shows up thows interviewing him. He has class!!!!
@naumnn Thats awesome. I semi-helped record an album about ten years ago and i did the same thing, convinced the band to leave in a couple of things that accidentally got recorded at the end of songs, which i thought was perfect because the singer couldnt decide if he wanted the song to fade out or end suddenly. I prefer this approach in film as well, leaving in minor mistakes, since of course in real life people tend to make mistakes, shouldnt fictional characters do it too?

God, I adore David. He's so intelligent and witty and sweet, and let's not forget sexy. I love this video, I always have-- and to his credit, David made the mullet and blue eyeshadow cool way before the 80's ;)
Life on Mars was the first David Bowie song I ever heard...and I instantly fell in love with David Bowie! Seeing him sing such a beautiful song in the video only made me love and become even more obsessed with him!
@hingamy That's so sad but true... But I guess it's some kind of gift to be knowing that already, isn't it? Cause people will regret that they didn't listen to him when he was still alive...
Ther's a half hour version of this documentary somewhere. My favorite part is Rick Wakeman explaining the whole process including going lo David's mansion and him singing all the songs one after the other..He was blown away. There for history. It's the greattest song ever recorded.
Thanks so very much redsails! I missed a lot of his music, which I love --it's all better now with a better band touring (Gail Ann Dorsey! Sterling Thomas!) but it is still the visionary songwriter, singer, and human, David Bowie. My first memory was "Ground Control to Major Tom", and I was maybe 13!
This clip is from Swedish TV about the best pop song ever, which according to them is Life On Mars. I don't agree but as it is in my top-20 among Bowie's songs it is pretty damn close:-)
Hello! I'm still writing to the radio for ask more Bowie songs, 'cause i think that too much young people don't know who his him, and we need some nice rock! someone can help me and do the same please? thanks, have a nice day.

@naumnn i totally agree with you, Bowie is not a common singer - songwriter, he is an artist.
thank you for your comment :)

Many people call Bowie a genius. In years to come when he has left us we'll realise that he actually was.

@hingamy - So you have some sort of deathwish for him. Gee, that's nice.
